Thread: Julio Torres sets date for Smuggler content, places self in cross-hairs...
Which makes me wonder whySmuggling - unlike vehicles and player cities - wasn´t implemented a few month later as well. Too bad player interdependancy is being considered a dirty word nowadays.

FYI Smuggling and the method in which it would be represented in game was talked about by the developers pre-launch and was lauded as an example of player interdependancy, so it was designed initially, it just didn't get into the game at launch because it was pushed forward before certain features (such as player vehicles, mounts and player cities that were released some months later) were ready.

SWG Vault: When will the FRS (Including the Knight Trials) be brought back to live?
Julio Torres: We realize that the Jedi system in SWG as a whole needs to be re-evaluated, so we are currently discussing options to address this. Our goal is to make the next implementation resonate to the needs of the game and the Jedi players. To do this, we really need to give it design time and play time, the exact date of when we can release a great FRS system. It’s not set yet, but we are currently working on it to get out to the public as soon as possible.
This doesn't sound really promising either.
Ok, Is this statement terrifying to anyone else? I was pretty cool-headed about the whole thing until I read this. It is a well thought out, direct, informative (for him, anyway)answer to a question regarding the status of content for the game. We get
SWG Vault: Can you tell us when EXACTLY we will see the full Smuggler Revamp? And if you can't tell us, can you please tell us why?
Julio Torres: We are aware and sensitive to the fact that Smugglers need content to enjoy. We are currently working on this, and players should be able to enjoy the new content in November.
He makes NO mention of actual content. He also(and in my opinion, this is the worst part) does not refer to it as a a smuggler revamp, but content. Are we just getting glorified courrier missions (I know, thats what a smuggler is, but we've waited SO long for a revamp, I'm hoping for something more!), a "new" slicing system, or content put out for EVERYONE with a smuggler feel. Bah, no use speculating...besides, I'm sure we'll be updated as soon as they have more information

No, we're getting the cool and exciting™ chance to run cool and exciting™ Force missions from the cool and exciting™ blue glowy of Obi-Wan™.
"Content" to enjoy. He never said anything about smuggling content. Because that will never happen.

Of course, you are correct! Since they had yet, upon publishing this product, to put in the smuggling code, then the lack of smuggling would not be considered a bug.
I know it's not a bug in the development sense; I work on software.
Anyway: Smuggling is FUNCTIONALITY specific to... yep, the Smuggler profession, and auser who purchased the productwouldreasonably expect it to have been implemented once the product was available for purchase (as this user did). Calling it "content" is a misnomer, as long as we are being picky.
Very well - I'm glad you see the point I was trying to make (can you please explain it to RichardBryant?). I'll grant your point that "functionality" may be a better term for it - of course for that functionality to be useful, we'll need missions and quests in which we can use them. That's where the "content" comes in - functionality alone isn't very useful.
I can understand that we're all tired of the lies, broken promises and misdirection we've been facing over the last two years, and that this makes people dramatic (as in your case) or simply obtuse and irrational (as in RichardBryant's). But drama isn't going to get us anywhere. As I've said before, it's fine to be unwilling to settle for anything less than a direct answer - but drama doesn't help us in any way. It's a distraction from the real issue - and the Devs don't need our help to do that. Nor do we need people like RichardBryant misdirecting his aggression onto the rest of the Smuggler community. People like that are not the kind of example we want the Developers to see - wgo'd want to spend their time and energy trying to satisfy someone like that?
Let's do away with the drama and start policing ourselves and concentrate on the issue at hand. Smugglers can't smuggle, it's what Smugglers want to be able to do, it's what has been promised to us for over two years and it's still not implemented. That's what matters.
Simple,a bug is a defect in code. If there is no codethere's nobug, therefore the lack of smuggling is no bug.
BUT, itwas part of the original design, according to Wes and others. It was just moved out of scope. Therefore we have an unbelievable amount of time without any production.

Actually, I wasn't going to comment, but in thinking about this (in orange), I have to disagree.
Functionality IS useful: If SOE/LucasArts implemented the functionality of Smuggling, they would not have to create content because PLAYERS who needed to move contraband from one part of the galaxy to another would be asking Smugglers to do it for them. In other words, the real function of Smuggling requires a system that defines what is contraband and which would include consequences to those caught with it.
However, my bet is that what we will get (if we get anything at all related to Smuggling) will NOT be actual functionality, but content as you describe; there will be modified delivery missions for NPCs (whoopee). I don't believe LucasArts/SOE are interested in investing the time and money it would take to implement a system of contraband (as written up by GreenMarine and added to by the Smuggler playerbase) that would allow actual Smuggling functionality.

while mr. bryant's response was a bit excessive, i can't agree with tashunka.
you say smuggling was never designed into this game. well, there wasn't even a smuggler class a week before live so that's not all that surprising.
more importantly, smuggling is a part of a Smuggler. obviously. and to create a Smuggler profession without smuggling is, imo, broken, not content. that's just a mistake, flat out.

That sounds like complete bullsh!t. Instead of an expansion fix what is already here.
