Thread: I heard about the CU Alpha
So what is all the crying about? are the "alpha testers" pissed off because they didnt get to test? or are they mad because they are in dissagreement with something in the CU?

I'd say that it is the former, coupled with their apprehension that only a month of testing for a major upgrade/change is a very poor choice indeed.

If all it is is that you guys didnt get to test anything and wont be able to untill the rest of us "lackeys" get to on TC, then I say cry more. If there is something wrong with the CU itself and they wont listen to anyone then that is something to be concerned about. Unless im wrong and its only about not getting the priviledge to test before the rest of us then oh well, CMN.

There's that and that many feel as if they've been misused, misslead and mistreated....
While I sympathise for anyone that feels that way, when we all signed on, we volunteered and did so under the knowledge that durining thedevelopment of games, things can and will change. Arguabley we could have been told what was going on sooner, but I suspect that's not the team's fault.

Really, its just par for the course. Has SOE ever shown any ability to handle big publishes/expansions. I just found out that, because I play on a laptop, they can offer me no help of any kind with a glitch that causes me to crash to desktop while flying in space. So I've been thinking of quiting for a while now anyways. Its sad.
I hope the CU turns out to be fun and at least work, even if they've completely fubar'd the process.
I know what you've been through. I've contacted them several ways, several times, and I have had 430 CTD's in my 3 months of playing. I just got my no power harv deed yesterday, and I do not like the tradeoff.

Were the alpha teams ever guaranteed to actually test the game? Or was it an issue of having long-time players and loyal community members provide feedback, as the letter suggested? If no promises were made to the alpha ppl to test, then I think the issue isn't worth crying over and leaving the game over. Be glad you got to do what you did - however big or small.
I seem to recall reading something somewhere on these boards that even if you got onto an alpha team it wasn't a guarantee to actually get to playtest the game. *shrug*
As for the time-scale. Well, moaning about how little time is going into the alpha and beta phases is not going to change a thing, so why do it? All the stink just clutters the board. I enjoy reading real discussions, but please, make it worth our time.
I'm not into reading/writing negative posts that often, as much as you, but what is wrong with playing a little devil's advocate hereand there? I expect the best out of the CU, but I'll be honest with you, the lack of positive signs from developer and player made announcements as well as an excruciating wait can test people here on the boards. I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't angry about the appearance of a crappy product being shoved out the door, but then again I truly believe that nothing is ever only as it seems.
Bring on the totally awesome CU in its fully fleshed out glory!!!... lord knows I'm tired of waiting for it ![]()

who was not given incentive? WE were never ALLOWED to test it.
I'd announced my retirement prior to this 'incident'. As had Gabe and a couple of others. Corrs have a habit of retiring in bunches. Also my term was almost up so thought this was the best time to retire.

It seems the CU testing process bypassed the selected correspondants and community leader stage altogether
Which is why, I'm guessing, there are numerous correspondant vacancies. Interestingly enough, bioth the Riflemen and Swordsmen - two similar/related professions - are both newly vacated too

I think all the Alpha forum sitters would have been happy to provide feedback on documents provided however we were repeatedly told to withhold all judgements untill the sandbox was live and we could actualy test it to find the problems.
However now that we have been waiting since november not pushing hard for changes we feel could help the game cause we had not tested in the sandbox yet and had been told to wait untill that time, they send us that email.
My major concern is that just like most other patches many things arnt going to work and unlike previous issues this will not mean that small segments of the game are effected it will be the eintire thing from crafting to entertainer and combat.
just recently we had been told that new profesion documnts would be going up for us to provide feed back on ( 3 weeks ago) and that alpha would open within weeks not months (3 months ago).Of corse those comments arnt recent you say but the sad thing is that is the most substantial recent red name comments we have had
