Do the Dev's play this game?

It has been painfully obvious for a LOOONG time that they do not.

If you read the most recent letter from the random member of the Dev team, the leader of the studio says in it that he quit playing SWG 3 months or so into the game because he stopped having fun... speaks crap loads really doesn't it? I guess it's my own stupid fault that I'm still here, hoping for promised things to actually happen and all the time waiting to at least be able to fly my own ship.

**UPDATE AUGUST 13th, 2004 from Stratics Chat Log**

[18:47] <Brekkee> *Jospre* Why do Smugglers get no love. Currently on test a stealth Nerf went in that prevents WUK's, AUK's, PLK's, MolClamps, etc. from pulling auto from crates. What was the reasoning for this move as it now really slows down the slicing process expecially for large orders.

[18:48] <TH> The autopulling from crates was the result of a change to a different part of the system. I have support from the team to change it back. its just a matter of time now. Sorry for the inconvenience and yes we do love smugglers

Yes, that log is at least a sign that they know smugglers really do exist on the servers.

Oh my God, I think I just gave myself a hernia laughing so hard. I literally fell out of my flippin chair and have other people in the office staring at me like I've completely lost my mind. Which is possible given the 60 hour work weeks lately...

That just struck me as...lol...laughing my a$$ off again....yes we do love smugglers...lol riiiiiight...go on, pull the other one.

The following patch note:

Profession: Smuggler

  • You will no longer be able to slice an item by using a tool in a crate. You will have to remove it from the crate first.

You might also remember that nothing really came of this. Many of us were testing laser knife crates, hoping it was a mistake and they were fixing what the problem was.

Well, thanks to Luaplink on TC, I was told that this patch note... is entirely accurate.

I have verified it myself, we are no longer able to auto-pull from crates when slicing under Publish 10.

I have sent a question as to this behavior and am workingto get a response ASAP.

Yall deserved to know what is going on though. Thanks toLuaplink for bringing this to my attention.

I didn't read all the replies after the original post, but I'll throw this on the pile anyway.

I would rather keep the current system that allows us to use WUKs, AUKs, MolClamps, and Flow Analyzer Nodes directly from a crate, and just do the easy work-around for the Laser Knives by pulling them out of the crate myself.

Just pulling one item from a crate before you use it, when that item is the only one of the bunch that has charges for multiple uses, is 1000 times easier than being *forced* to pull *all* items from the crates before each and every slice. I would think that all smugglers would agree with me on this point.

Making the use of 4 other required items more complicated, just to fix an issue with what is already the least complicated item even when dealing with said issue, just doesn't make much sense to me.

Oh, and TH, your concept of smuggler love seems kind of wack.

Do you and the Dev's just sit in a room and think this stuff up without actually imagining how it would actually affect people IN-GAME????

Let me give you a little scenario shall I?

Okay, well let's see, I am a master Smuggler, and have been since I first started playing. Well I am in a guild, and in this guild, I have a master weaponsmith and a master armorsmoth whom I slice for.

Both the Smithe's are rather popular with the server and so do a rather large amount of traffic. Meaning that I end up slicing probably and average of at least 3-5 crates of both weapons AND armor each and everyday just to keep up with the load.

Now, when Slicing this many objects at any time, I of course, like to keep things organized, so the only things I have on my person when I slice, is a backpack in my regular inventory , which contains my slcing equipment, plus my equpied empty backpack, and a thurdun-equiped empty back pack.

When I slice wqeapons, for instance, I place say, speed sliced waepons in my empty equiped backpack, and the damage one in my non-equpied empty backpack, until my inventory can hold no more items, then I Unload the items onto my weaponsmiths vendor so that he may grab them and place them up for sale.

Now, as the system currently exists, the only thing that is any real "pain" is that I make sure to have at least 5 knives pulled out at anytime, since the "auto-pull" from crates is broken witrh laser knives.

I also live on dantooine, so the lag can sometimes get pretty bad when slicing, where say, A crate of 25 items could take as much as maybe 25-30 seconds a slice. That can equate into a long time for just slicing 6 crates of items, if not more.

By making this change, which I DO NOT UNDERSTAND AT ALL!!!!!, you will be gretaly INCREASING the effort it takes for ANY slicer, especially those who MAKE thier livings by slicing. The little money we can make now with our profession, will be even further reduced by the increased time it takes to slice the same amount of itmes as was previously possible.

What I think would help the SMuggler community, would be if you took they time, to come into OUR forums, and explain yourselves, to actually be here and allow SOME sort of discussion to take place so that we may understand your reasoning.

I think one of the biggest issues here is the fact that we DO NOT understand why it is that you feel this change is nessicary, or the reasons you have for making the change. These changes greatly affect our profession and community, and we deserve to have an answer.

and, as with all things concerning answers from the Dev's and Management teams, I await my dissapointment with great anticipation. Maybe you could make a few of us happy for a change.

The existing system had a really simple workaround for the PLK problem - keep PLK crates in the backpack to prevent their autopull, and double-click the crated pack to pull a knife into main inventory when needed.

This change makes slicing even more of a drudge than it already was. I now, officially, give up.

Think i am sufficiently calm enough to post without getting banned now

"The autopulling from crates was the result of a change to a different part of the system."

Can someone please clarify for me ? this to me sounds like the Wuks Auks and clamps not autopulling is in fact a bug due to a change in a different part of the system ?

Which to me sounds like, well, a bug ?

Do bugs always get included in patch notes as an addition ?

Ok, I hate to say it... but im only 4/4/4/0 smuggler.. i saw no use to the spice tree. This new change will just make slicing annoying.. So I'm probably going to drop slicing altogether.. not worth the annoyance to keep slicing....

I really don't understand the DEV's motives.... why "cut" areas of the game that have small glitches... instead of looking for a way to solve the problem without hurting the game? If SOE wants us to continue paying/playing... why do theyconstantly say the will help.. then stab everyone in the back?
