That to me sounds actually quite spiffy and in keeping with the current set up/dependancy like structure. The strong disagreement and indeed in some cases hostility, comes from ideas that give away Smuggling abilities to others, so for example a none Smuggler using a costume kit and ID kit to get by customs would be akin to a none Smuggler using a WuK and laser knife to slice a weapon, or for that matter a chef using their skills to make a set of armour. This is exactly what I am suggesting, and I think you could weigh each component of the effort appriopriately. Someone has done a better job on the GCW already, but say... 95% max possible of bypass/evasion:
- 65% Master Smuggler
- 10% Tailor made uniform/disguise
- 10% Image Designer Alterations/disguise
- 10% BE Simulated Bio-Signatures
- 95% Total
Smugglers are the best, but the best way to not get detected at all, is interdependency. Then, up the likelihood of scans being successful, such that it is a hardship to carry contraband without using these methods, and the best way to carry contraband, is to use all 4 methods.
This is good stuff and has alot of potential, as well as the changes in tefs/covert/overt'ness. It potentially opens up our profession to specializing - which is a great thing. Some people might be great at/like smuggling people, and some people might be great at/like smuggling supplies (or both). Diversity and options to specialize would be friggin cool.

You might think thats bad, but its a very valid point.....how would a smuggler be able to get a known criminal past several guards? They would need to disguise the people to get through. Smugglers would be involved if it required to never establish a direct contact between the fugitive and law enforcement.

Basis for getting around a controlled system? How about know how to sneak around undetected, thereby bypassing the scan by knowing a secret passageway, knowing how to play it cool, and not tip off a security guard to give you a second look, being a fast talker, and convincing the guard nothing is wrong. Sheilded containers to hold contraband, fake ID papers, a Smuggler ability to arrange a handoff past the blockade, to pick items back up once you're clear, etc.
Why don't we just give Jedi a way to sneak people through controlled scans with their mind trick. At least that was the in the freaking movie.
I'm being snarky, but this is a very important battle to us, unless all you wanna do to Smuggle people is go master pilot... It looks like we've got a GCW Correspondent lining right up to lock us completely out of a very important role that we could, SHOULD have.
Not to mention, even getting TO the Starship terminal would require the Smugglers to go visit a rassafrackin' Image Designer so they can get through too.

Who's to say that smuggling a person through security should be smuggler only? Bring in image designers as an option to completely disguise yourself is one more profession that gets a purpose....besides......*shows shiney thingy* Smuggler revamp, on the way...fetch fetch!
lol.. the ol' distract-us-with-thoughts-of-the-smuggler-revamp trick may have worked three or four publishes ago, but we're too smart for your games now.
Man, that revamp's going to be great. I still think a spice system similar to the way resources spawn would be best for us, though.

Listen, you will not be able to help out a person if he's visually identified by law enforcement, no matter how many slices you make, how many talks you have....if law enforcements recognise the suspect...they are screwed. That point for the smuggler is to never reach that point of visual identification. Thats the critical difference.

I would go and post, but I don't think flaming a nitwit would help us in anyway, so I'll stay out of it.

Well, the word "Smuggle" itself does tend to lend creedence to the fact that Smugglers should do it.
Again, we don't want a MONOPOLY on smuggling. We just are rather offended that the Image Designers should have it. Especially if we DON'T.
Perhaps we should call it Image Designing a player through security?

He never mentioned the smuggler to be excluded, just the image designer to be included.

I can not believe a Corr would dismiss smugglers so quickly, EVERY SMUGGLER needs to voice their point of view in the above linked thread.

Okay, you sit back and listen to this fekwad.
Fact #1: There's a profession in this game called "Smuggler".
Fact #2: "Smugglers" are people who move items and/or people from one place to another in a non-legal fashion.
Fact #3: It is not always done by avoiding authorities, Smuggling is done simply by methods in which you circumvent the law.
By making it so that an Image Designer who has invested no skill points in Smuggler is more than capable of Smuggling someone about the galaxy than an actual Smuggler, you are litterally KILLING THE PROFESSION, NUMBNUTS!

Same thing with muon gold, if you want to disguise a pack of muon gold with a birthday cake, you need to be a chef to make that birthday cake
. Visual identification...the point for the smuggler is to never get to the point the cake, or the drugs is seen. This particular argument is about disguises, and image designers would be highly proficient in disguising a person, where as a smuggler would be able to slice into a system, that a suspect never appeared in datafiles AS a suspect, or scramble electronic security scanners....OR ...draw Direct attention from a person....that the law enforcer never SEE the suspect. When the suspect is seen and identified, the smuggler has failed to do his job. If the suspect is SEEN but NOT identified, the image designer prevailed.
