Thread: Brilliant idea for smuggling people...

Good to hear, Auraboron. It just read like here was this suggestion for player smuggling, and instead of it involving, y'know, smugglers and all, let's give it to the IDs. Which would be kind of bizarre, but we deal with that kind of thing all the time, so also pretty standard. I for one wasn't trying to rake you over the coals about it or anything (tried to make my posts a bit funny for that reason), but I did want to make for an absolute certainty that smugglers weren't left out of the part of the discussion that was crying out for our involvement.

I'll try to add something to the starport security thread later today. Involving as many professions as possible in the various parts of the game, particularly the GCW, should be one of our top priorities.

Well, if you read what I put on the GCW, I proposed a system where smugglers alone could do the job with a fake ID/computer security changes/etc..

However, a person with a smuggler crafted fake ID, *and* a CorSec uniform made by a tailor, would have a better shot.

Further, a person with a smuggler crafted ID, a tailor made CorSec uniform, *and* an ID made disguise kit, would offer the BEST chance to avoid a scan or a factional altercation.

Give everyone a role, but not to the exclusion of any other profession. And, I still plan to fight hard to prevent military equipment (bases/turrets/etc..) from being moved through opposing factional starports (or even same factioned in the right circumstances) unless you have the assistance of a smuggler (only).

The image of the criminal wouldn't be scanned or easily recognizable in most situations. Police are more able to type a name into a database search than scan in the image on an ID. A true fake id would rely primarily on the ability of the person to create a 'clean' background for the persona they are assuming at that time. Not on their new hair style.

QFE.

Furthermore, the movies showed people taking on fake identities by either wearing different clothes (TPM & AotC with Padme/Amidalla/Pilot, ANH on board the DS in stormy armour, RotJ with BH clothes/armour) or giving clearance codes (RotJ, shuttle trying to land on Endor).

Unless you want to include elements of the EU as a precedent for image design (for which every occurance had forged IDs), no image designer skills were used as a means of disguise or subterfuge.

Are you saying a Smuggler created the Padme Disguise that was on the person killed when the bomb went off?

I don't remember seeing any smugglers as a part of the scene, yet, she looked quite a bit like...

And i dont remember ever seeing any ID's in any movie, maybe we should take them out of the game (just making a point I m not serious), the "i didnt see" argument is a weak one at best. Sorry if Im harsh on ya but if you remember when you were made a Corr and people were freaking out I had your back I try to be a fair and open minded person, but i can not on this issue. No one but an ID can change someones look, no one but a CH can tame a mount, no one but a DE can make a Droid. Is it just sooooo much for Smuggler to ask that if and when Smuggling is added to the game, we like anyother profession be the only ones to do it. Come on its not a lot to ask.

That is again dependant on how 'specific' certain smuggling cases are. Each particular option needs review. Just a small example, for instance if the only way to escape a city wich is in a lockdown is either through disguising yourself as one of the enforcing characters, clothing department would be tailor, disguising yourself to look alike a certain officer would be image designer. Its all dependant on what kind of evasion is required, for instance if the 'guards' had passive bioscanners...then it would be up to the bioengineer to experiment on your body to change your current signature, or a smuggler to slice the searching pattern out of the database...

Its all connected on how specific each case is.

This is one main point I have with your GSW idea, we have been working on this stuff for ever and you failed to even include us in your first posting about smuggling people, come on now that would piss anyone off.

it could also be argued that smuggler would not have to be mentioned as they were allready a defaulted option that one has in mind.

Sure that's what it was because that has always been the case with smuggler.

Sure that's what it was because that has always been the case with smuggler and if that were true the idea's would have had to mention smuggler or resembled the idea's we have been talking about for 2 yrs which they did not kthxby.

By this are you suggesting, justas a weaponsmith/armoursmith creates WuKs/AuKs that enable a Smuggler to slice, Tailors and IDs could create costume/disuise kits to augment a Smugger's Smuggling ability? That to me sounds actually quite spiffy and in keeping with the current set up/dependancy like structure.

The strong disagreement and indeed in some cases hostility, comes from ideas that give away Smuggling abilities to others, so for example a none Smuggler using a costume kit and ID kit to get by customs would be akin to a none Smuggler using a WuK and laser knife to slice a weapon, or for that matter a chef using their skills to make a set of armour.

I broke the pessemism barrier ages ago; I've gone full circle and am now insanely optimistic (although some know it alls claim I'm mad)

This is exactly what I am suggesting, and I think you could weigh each component of the effort appriopriately. Someone has done a better job on the GCW already, but say... 95% max possible of bypass/evasion:

  • 65% Master Smuggler

  • 10% Tailor made uniform/disguise

  • 10% Image Designer Alterations/disguise

  • 10% BE Simulated Bio-Signatures

  • 95% Total

Smugglers are the best, but the best way to not get detected at all, is interdependency.

Then, up the likelihood of scans being successful, such that it is a hardship to carry contraband without using these methods, and the best way to carry contraband, is to use all 4 methods.
