Thread: Smugglers and PC BHs

Im all for PC Bounties, but alot of people are wanting evasion skills so they can out-smart and out-maneuver the BH and escape. My beef with that is that if we got new smuggler evasion skills those would work against some of our combat professions.

And for those smugglers who dont want PC Bounties cause they dont have the skills, just do the mission normally and you shouldnt stack up deadbeat points. Part of the risk of going the deadbeat route is dying so what difference does it make weather your dying from an NPC BH or a PC BH?

Oh please you're a TKA, PIstoler, andM-Smuggler the same templetI just talked about. "Yeah better make it a MBH only thing so we know we can win." I bet even after the CU with that tempyou will out do a MBH.

Umm, actually, that's just a really old sig that I never changed. I'm just Master Smuggler/Master Marksman with a little bit of Pistoleer, Medic, and Scout. So no need to get a little snippy there, chief. I'll change it now so there won't be any more misunderstandings.

I don't look forward to PvP either, but I think it's a perfectly reasonable consequence to failing too many missions. I like the idea of having special rewards for taking high-risk missions. I don't want to die, even though I don't really lose anything, but that would be the risk I take when I steal someone's stuff enough times. I think of it this way: if someone stole something from another PC, they'd expect to get hunted down and harrassed. I don't think anyone would feel justified in whining that they don't deserve it. Ifthat same personwere to steal from Jabba, even though he's not a 'real person', why shouldthey expect lesser consequences? I know it's a role-playing angle, but last I checked, this was a role-playing game. After all, NPCs are people too

On a positive note, I love the idea of my wimpy Master Smuggler playing cat and mouse with the bounty hunters. While an NPC BH would just give up when I run away, a PC would have more dedication. In order to avoid the smuggler hiding out in his house, perhaps there could be a trackingdeviceactivated once a BH has spotted his quarry. Perhaps a special item like a pistol that a BHhas touse on the smuggler, so the BH knows where the smuggler is at all times via email or tells ("Target is in Eisley", "Target has just shuttled from Eisley to Anchorhead", etc). The smuggler would have to go from safehouse to safehouse if he wants to get around, or keep on the move. It would also be an incentive to not get seen in the first place.

Of course, being the wimp that I am, I would also like the option of a peaceful resolution.

I've been wondering about HOTDOG's post on exploiting, maybe we can make the reward for a bounty come out of the player's hide. The SMUGGLER would have to pay forTWICE the cost of the shipment out of his own pocket. If he doesn't have it, perhaps the system can take any credits that come into his possession later (bank or inventory) and automatically transfer it to the BH. Consider it a 'shakedown'. And the smuggler would have to run some successful missions to pay back what he owed (or regular missions from terminals, whatever). It'd stop the Smuggler/BH alliance cash machines, and make being caught a very bad thing financially.

That would be very easy to do. The smuggler recieves the email about a potential mission and in ()'s it will clearly state in red lettering that failure in this mission will make him the target of a Player Bounty Hunter. And give the Smuggler recieving the mission an out.

Or, better yet, allow the Smuggler to "register" for specific missions. Like the GCW, the smuggler can choose to go with PvE only status or PvP status.

I would want one, but I think the 5th point is probably a bit low, maybe 10, 15, or 25

Yes IF one of the following were true...

1. Fighting ability equal to a BH, or

2. Smuggler evasion skills that would give us a chance of permanently evading the BH and removing ourselves from the term.

I personally would like to see #2 since I think our specialty should be stealth and avoidance.

I would opt for #2

Evasion should be our weapon against BHs, not dueling.

Evasion type skills can come in many forms;

1. Our criminal faction points can give us advanced warning of BHs that have taken out a contract on us...and their location through the chase,

2. Skills to foil tracking droids...like decoy droids perhaps?

3. BH term slicing skills that cause our names to appear unreliably on BH terms. Look once and there we are, a few minutes later and we're not on the list, then our name reappears...sort of like an unreliable data base, name flickers on and off. Off/on period is releative to smugglers's skill level.

4. Lowered radar profile.

5. Temporarily removing name from over our heads so that the BH needs to know what we look like.

6. A means of slicing the term to remove ourselves completely AND a limit to the the times the same BH, or any other BH, can take the same mission for us.

6-b. A means of slicing the term to CHANGE our DNA information on the terminal so they can't find us and keep chasing the wrong people. (They look, they just can't find us)

too early to think of more, brain isn't awake yet. BTW, is there a time limit a BH has to complete his kill mission? There should be.

I want to be able to take and fail (or cheat) a mission with a large enough reward that I risk the BH terms. But I do NOT want it without the skills to evade the BH or foil the terms.

I really like the concept of your 6th point. We should also be able to slice the term to see if we are on the term and if we fail either slice and we should have an increased risk. Maybe have the BH sent an email saying what terminal we are at and slicing and have us not know we where detected.

I'd be ok with PC bounties so long as the missions which can inspire the PC bounties are COMPLETELY SEPERATE from the dead beat system. It's not enough to have a simple way to avoid PC bounties ... there needs to be an ACTIVE OPT-IN not an active opt-out.

Also, I'm a Master Smuggler / Master Musician .... so until we see how a smuggler can fight after CU I'd still be uneasy about PC bounties. Hopefully the CU will make Smuggler a profession that doesnt NEED another combat profession to be at par.

IMHO, If a defining aspect of the Smuggler profession is the option for PC Bounties ... the smuggler profession itself should be balanced for that (not smuggler if you also have a few other combat professions).

I've won against BH's about 50% of the time when I was messing around with PVP. Theyr not that much more powerful.

of course if there more than just a BH they are. They can be monsters. But really just a BH is not much of a threat, even a Rogue can step to one that isnt a dabbling BH.

But a dabbler BH can be a real beast. Like some carbineer, some pistoleer, idk.. If you have pistoleer, rogue, and TKA you can step to it though.

IMO, a duel between just a Master Smuggler and just a Master BH currently is 50/50, a good blaster at your side helps of course.

On exploitation it could be solved with a very long timer to take another mission after death thus making it unlikable for any Smuggler to fail on purpose.

on combat balance i expect that any MBH hunting me would have it ieasy to kill me unless i am a triple master(TKM MP MS)where we should be balanced or even slightly better

but when running away , that should be the logical option,

BHs have first strike.

BH have terrain negotiation from scout.

if a BH gets you on surface away from cities you are quite dead(or should be) so they could give a short "speeder boost" for the Smuggler (or we would be forced to have FS skills ) , remember that the BH could destroy your bike thus they can plan and make tactics to prevent it

if you are caught in a city the smuggler should have the best odds to runaway, but only if they get a "mask scent" skill to fade from radar, call it a "merge with crowd" and can only be used in cities (and of course even when in combat)

Even then remember that the BH is playing agaisnt time because you could do the mission as fast as possible or changing plantes quite often to avoid being caught by Bh droids, deliver the cargo and be off the terminals.

or if you plan to keep the cargo you have to find the terminal where the BH got your mission slice it and make him fail til another takes your mission after a timer, (if message is the same in both cases the Bh would not know if you delivered or sliced the terminal) if the chances of slicing are few and you fail your bountyshould go up and more Bhs could get your mission.

and of course your penalty fordying would increase the timer to pick another mission this way you prevent a smuggler failing the slice several times to make theBHfriend get a hefty amount.
