Thread: Smugglers and PC BHs
After reading a lot of this I'm reminded of all the lame stuff Jedi do. So why wouldn't Smugglers do the same? Well they aren't going to loose XP just fail the mission. I doubt a lot of Smugglers are going to stay in a Privet house to keep from loosing a time based mission to a PC BH? That would be counter productive I would think. Better to take the chance and stay on the move that gives a BH the most trouble.
For the most part they really need to fix the system. Hiding shouldn't be a option for any player bounty. If a Bounty Hunter has your mission should simply over right all tefs, locked player houses, and city banning. Tell the Bounty is DBed or the BH is killed by the mark. No hiding anywhere period. All you can do is Run, Fight, or Die. Hiding is abused. So put a stop to that and the BH system will work fine.
This game is way too player friendly everyone wants to be the best, but there is no real risk to this game. Give me a break.
If you get killed by a BH you clone and move on. Only difference between a NPC BH and a PC BH is you don't know if you will actually win or not. That is why some people don't want Player Bounties on them. It will be a inconvenience to them winning the game.

on combat balance i expect that any MBH hunting me would have it ieasy to kill me unless i am a triple master(TKM MP MS)where we should be balanced or even slightly better
but when running away , that should be the logical option,
BHs have first strike.
BH have terrain negotiation from scout.
This is something I see a lot in threeds about player bounties, 'MBH should be a lot more powerful than master smuggler'. This seems to come solely from the fact we need BH to keep jedi population in check- and jedi are powerful, thus BH must be as well.
In the films, we only see one BH vs smuggler one on one fight, in the Cantina sceen in A New Hope (in Empire Stikes Back a dark jedi master hands the smuggler over to the BH, in ROTJ the BH is busy fighting the jedi when taken out). The result? The smuggler shoots first, and wins. By all means, give MBH some advantages aver master smuggler, but only make it a 40:60 to it's not too imbalanced.
On an in game note, the pvp I have enjoyed are the close fights, the ones where ifI loseI have the feeling that if I improved my skills (not my in game template, but what I do with it) I could have won, and if I win I'm thinking 'damn, that was a close fight', and can take real satisfaction in winning.
What puts most people off pvp is finding that in a lot of pvp, one person just spams an 'I pwn' button, with little real skill involved. The combat balance should make things more balanced by fixing armour and buffs. I think this is what will bet more people back into pvp, by making it an enjoyable challenge.
This is what I would want if player bounties come in for smugglers, a fun challenging fight. If I get this, I'm happy, win or lose.If I know as soon as I see a BH, I have a 99% chance of losing, it just becomes dull again, like most pvp is now. I think thats is what a lot of BH want as well, fun, enjoyable, challenging pvp without all the wining that comes from jedi, not an 'I Pwn' button to use against us.
As for evasion skills, my worry about them is how they would be implimented. If it's just 'BH launches x pribe droids', 'smuggler launches y decoy droids', BH has 10% chance of locating smuggler. Repeat. This would not be a good trade off for fun, balanced pvp. The issue then becaomes keeping BH balanced against jedi and against smugglers.
This could be done by giving BH some special skills that only work vs jedi, such as a ranged attack that can by-pass saber block, a certification for BH only armour with a cortosis weave for LS resists, things like that. So BH could be powerful vs jedi without becoming overpowering vs smugglers.

And a lot of us think our skill set should be geared toward being able to escape. Pushed in a corner, when all attempts to escape failled, in a 1 on 1 fight to the death between a Master Smuggler and a Master Bounty Hunter, the MBH should win.
I disagree. Smugglers are very resourceful. They may not initiate combat, but they are no means bad at fighting. I am not disagreeing that they are good at evasion, but they should have some skills that make them good in a fight.
One neat evasion technique I thought of would be to sabotoage a terminal (like a mission terminal) so when the BH tries to slice it to find out if the smuggler is near by, he gets blown up and fails his mission.
LOL, no, the only reason Jedi do so is because they can lose 2 months worth of exp! We smugglers would be great for BH's. Well, why stay alive? Maybe a quest would be granted when you kill the player BH.... It would show waht NPC put you on the terminals and who you should go kill... Or pay off to get off the terminals.....Also it would be fun for NPCs to put you on the terminals, and then a BH gets your mission, *(and the NPC gives you a mission to deliver something to the BH, who has yoru mission).

Does any Bounty Hunter really want to hunt me when I get my combat template back up
Having experinced being a bounty hunter all I can says is that smugglers will do exactly the same as what Jedi do. They will sit in aprivate cantina or house. They'll only go out when they are buffed and only if they have a good combat template.
I'd like PC bounties in someways but if they don't do it right then they'll get worst than what it is with Jedi. You'll not see smugglers out of their homesand if they have to sit in their homes I can't see why they would want to continue being a smuggler.
If you're killed by a PC bounty hunter than all negative bonuses should be wiped to avoid clone camping. Then the question occurs why stay alive if a bounty hunter attack if you're not going to lose anything? You need some insentive to stay alive if a bounty hunter attacks you other than some form of Jedi xp debt which leads to cantina afking. We're not going to be able to out run them with thier terrian negation skills.

Really...... wow blows my fragile little mind, but does it really change anything? Hmm no... no it doesn't. Act like it's something important? "Hush Hush don't tell anyone, but it's just a game..."
So they are going to make the game unbalanced in the CU?
