The main point I am trying to make is that we were promised a complete and dedicated revamp with total effort from the Devs and it now seems we are just being included as anpther non-combat profession who needs something done after the combatfixes, instead of a profession which has needed (and been promised) attentionsince launch.






QFE - Thats exactly the point I was trying to make on the first page. I'm fearful our revamp is going to end up very similar in content to the one we almost ended up getting April/May. Which I'm sure everyone here would agree is unacceptable.


I'm also worried that after all this time, Greenmarine will end up not involved in our revamp, due to being bogged down in JtL or CURB devlepment.. We built up a rapport with him, he knows what we are after, and he knows whats possible, not to mention the fact he was working with us in his own time. Noone else should be heading our revamp.

I'm afraid so, bud. I just finished runninga search of allposts(not just threads) in the Smuggler forum that contained the word "Guide" in it. I found around seven hundred twenty-three, dating back to 6-28-03 11:38 AM, and none of them are of the one you're wanting.


What can I say? It's a slow night here at work.

Commando is being addressed in the CURB so it's a moot point. So is the combat portion of Smuggler which is why people aren't talking about it. I won't get into a who needs what discussion here, but a revamp is a sore spot for Smugglers and I would like to prevent outsiders from turning this into a thread that it was not intended to be. (Just for kicks take a look at the In Concept Forum and see how long the Smuggler threads have been there.)

There have been quasi conflicting statements made by SOETyrant. He says Smuggler Revamp (and I do appreciate the mention of us specificly) and also says that an underworld will not be seen anytime soon. Since Smuggling relies on one of two things(but preferable both), an underworld experience in the game or illegal and taxed items in game. Let me further explain my concerns here. No player will ever give up his sliced item to a Smuggler just to travel to another planet. So what exactly are we looking at then?


What I am saying at this point is that do not call this a revamp if it is just another delay until you find a way for us to smuggle. SOETyrant, as the boss, needs to clarify his statements as to what the intent is. I'm not asking for solid stuff. I'm saying that he put something out that does not sit right, and it would be nice to have some clarification.Please do not misconstrue what I have said with this. I am not accusing, and I am not pinninganystatements to anyone, but what has been said does worry me for thefuture ofSmugglers since itwas said asour revamp wasgoing into at least preliminary design.I have faith in the ability to design and implement a meaningful revamp, but anything short of actually smuggling will not be a revamp. Finally I'd like to say that I truly hope that with the revamp you find a way to make a definitive difference between Smugglers and smugglers.


In closing... Nick, this post is not intended to be of the type that you asked us to refrain from. These are some of my biggest concerns at this point since the day I give up Smuggler will be the day I cancel my subscription. This community, this profession, and possibly even this player will not survive another slight by the development team. There are new people involved that weren't in the past, and it is of the utmost importance that they realise how important it is that someone finally gets this right.


I appreciate you coming here Tiggs and filling us in, and I really hope that whoever is doing the designs has taken the time to go back and read the now very long and very old threads regarding revamp ideas that came from players, correspondents, and even some devs.

arn't these already in the game. Is spice not meant to be illegal and are sliced armour and weapons not meant to be illegal. These things excist but need to be incorparated into the game, so smugglers can smuggle them. Then the penalty for carrying these items need to be increased, so people don't take it lightly. Everytime I get searched i take the 250 credit fine, as its nothing but pocket change on a thug.

FYI:

The smuggler revamp was first promised back in August 2003... It's been a while. And it's been nothing but lies and excuses since.

This is one of the reasons I now assume the developers will do the exact opposite of what they post on the forums. But feel lucky. At least SOE takes the time to lie to you. Unlike Blizzard who hides inside their castle and makes server-side patches that effect gameplay without so much as a peep.

I would like to defend the DEVs here. They did not lie, they told you the information that was available to them at the time.


I know this will make a lot of smugglers mad, but the last I read on the subject was that there were new ummm, bosses, that came onto the game and changed the priorities on them. It was out of their control, from what they have said.


Of course, I suppose that they could just be covering lies with lies, but I like to rely on the good nature of man in situations such as these.


I'm not a smuggler, but if the revamp turns out to be good, I might want to be. I'm pulling for you guys.

Hasun, technicly illegal items are in game in the form of slices and spice. Previous discussions have shown that really making these things illegal could cause serious backlash. Implenting fines at a level that would make it penalising to carry them could cause serious backlash. There is a balance that can be found however to reflect this and other aspects of galactic trade that this game sorely misses.

Once again I urge those who don't understand what we're saying to go back and read some of the development posts. Technicly the 200+ damage weapons are illegal, heck most of the weapons players carry are illegal in the Empire regardless of the damage they do. There is a war going on and there's not a single resource in game which the Empire wants to control. The point is this, without either making things in game already have a taxable or illegal value, or creating valuable illegal items (which would have to come from some sort of underworld) then any smuggling implemented would be meaningless. This is why many of us fear the outcome of a revamp in which we have no input or foresight on. We want to smuggle, not pass random patrols which are more competent in exposing a rebel than they are illegal goods.



"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. Only my opinion

Given all the input form the Smuggling community since beta days Why wuold the devs stil need to consulte with us?

Supposing the CU is now alonmst ready for the sandbox.

Supposing that the devs working on the Smuggler profession are now checking what we want in the profession tagainst what is actually in the combat revamp.


Our non-combat professional combat skills must be consistent with the combat upgrade.



Yuk could also suppose I'mliving in a dream world.

Heh...you could have narrowed it down, and just searched for posts by me that contained the word "Guide". Came back with only 96 returns or so...mostly in my Faction Selling Guide.

I'm so happy for you that you find 'good nature' left in this...I sure don't. I personally find that SOE has BSed us to no end, failed to offer decent communication and utterly failed to give smugglers even the HINT of smuggling. In my view they get a big fat 'F' for a grade...a HUGE vote of no-confidence.

Guys, really - we've been over this before and we're coming to the same place. I understand the anger and frustration as well as anyone here, but we're just going to get worked up over nothing again. nothing's changed; we've gotten bent out of shape before and its gotten us nowhere.


Time to just go with it. We have no control over anything; they have the power. The revamp will come or it won't. Nothing we do, nothing we say, will have any effect on it coming sooner or later.


Yeah, they broke a ton of promises; shame on them. They're all bad, evil, foul smelling people. We know that. But its not worth the aggrevation of slogging through all the muck one more time for no reason.


I am certain Wes has been letting them know how disgruntled we are; he's doing all he can to help out. Least we can do is keep things civil - not that I am accusing anyone of getting out of line, but I just don't want to see it go that far, hence this post.
