Ailuu, there's nothing wrong with powerup slicing. Every smuggler can do it, so it's fair game. The advantage isn't enough for it to be considered an exploit. It's just smugglers using a little trick to improve their results, a very smuggler like thing.

Please continue to buy powerup sliced weapons, and even create a smuggler, so you can do it yourself & resell them.

Yay! comedic relief!

Ailuu,

I apreacieate you efforts here to find out the truth. A re-statement from the developers regarding this would be nice.

However, you can take Caylin's word at face value. He has your best interested at heart here. Nobody wants to see anyone banned from this game. But the fact of the matter is that people have been banned for using slicing exploits in the past.

As a Master Smuggler i have done many many slicing jobs. The one thing i will not do however is slice a weapon with a powerup, for me its down to personal opinion and i believe this form of slicing to be an exploit. Asking to get an official response on the matter is like waiting for piant to dry but then there are FAR more important things to be doing for smugglers than posting a yes/ no answer. Perhaps there silence on the matter might mean something special in terms of slicing within the Smuggler revamp, perhaps allowing special components to be fitted to weapons and armour to enhance the slice ?

either way, yes CSR's have told you your rifles legal, Caylins said hes had people banned for doing it, which clarifys it more for you ?

Neither

getting a response from a dev is nearly impossible. been waiting on a response to my question about corpse camping for weeks now. even posted it in the gcw boards to no avail. csr's aren't the way to go as we have had 2 different answers from 2 different ones.

good luck and hope that one day you get an answer.

as for me i feel it's an exploit.

I've read this whole thread and here are my observations, feel free to flame away

This whole debate can go on forever, and it will, untill a red name comes to clarify the situation. And Smuggler_Caylin has told us that he received word (pm's) that the powerup slicing process is in fact an exploit. But he cannot disclose any information

Ailuu has stated that aCSR has told her her rifles are legal. But the catch with this statement is that the CSR never mentioned the Power Up slicing technique directly. He just said the rilfes are legal.

Here's what I don't understand, and flame if you want, but I find it odd that when Smuggler_Caylin makes his claims about hearing from a dev Ailuu dismisses them and calls them opinions yet when she talks about her chat with the CSR she refers to it as being a fact.

Ailuu saying that Caylins and others statements aretheir "opinions" and that her statements are factual in nature is, for all intents and purposes, just plain wrong.

Both parties have there statements, and the only way to clarify them is to wait for a dev to address the situation.

OK, i'm through playing Judge Mathis for today

Holy krraaappp! It's the return of Aorae! (Aorae, Aorae! Eek, I said her name 3 times!)

As I recall, Aorae was convinced that as a CM, poisoning & diseasing factional NPC's to kill them without getting a TEF wasn't exploiting. She went to great lengths to justify her position on the forums, after all, there was no DEV response that what she was doing was exploitiong, and logic dictates that people wouldn't notice a TEENY TINY VIRUS killing them, or know where it came from.

Please continue to reply to every single post in this thread individually.

You have the Smuggler correspondant telling you, "Yes, this is an exploit, I have confirmed this with the exploit Dev Taurin." but you're discounting that, because it conflicts with what a minimum wage, hired off the street CSR told you. We call that denial.

What's so exploitative about doing this? Honestly, I tried it a couple times, to no appreciable difference. If there's an exploit in it it's that you just lost a powerup.

There should be an exploit ADDED to the game, that some smugglers know how to dig extra power out of the weapons they slice, and you'de have to be 'in' to do it. That wouldn't be cheating, that'd be realistic and smart. It makes perfect sense that some smugglers should be able at cheating at slicing. WE ARE SMUGGLERS. WE ARE CRIMINALS. What's the big deal? Or entire trade and livelyhoog*IS* cheating *and* getting away with it!!

When slicing normally a power up is removed, thereby implying its not supposed to be there during the slice. Therefore if a weapon is sliced in some way with a power up on, it can logically be deemed an exploit. There ya go, is that simple enough for you?

With regard to your rifles; if they were sliced with a power up applied they are not "legal" in the game, and that's that.

Again, these are merely your opinions on the matter. And while they most assuredly are just as important as any other opinion or assumption, they in fact dictate no stated rules of the game and are simply your thoughts and interpretations of what is NOT being said by SOE.

What in fact has been stated by SOE is that my rifles are in fact, legal. Thereby making your second comment completely false.

Ailuu;

I feel the need to point a few things out to you that some of us know from being around for a long time and having a very deep relationship with the community.

All of the advice/information thatyou have been given (in this thread) about the exploit has been correct.

It is an exploit to slice with the powerups.
It is not an exploit for you to have the results of the exploit. (SOE Logic)

SOE has specifically stated that they will not comment on exploits.
SOE has specifically stated that if you have to do something 'different' to work around 'normal game mechanics' to get a better result, it is an exploit. (eg. Slicing light sabers or slicing with a powerup)
SOE has specifically stated that they will delete any post that includes information on how to exploit (eg. your last post)

There was nothing else against the rules in the last post, so you can justifiably assume that it included 'how to exploit' and that is why it was deleted. (I am the one that reported it to the moderaters for having the exploit).

Smuggler Caylin is a top notch Smuggler. I would recommend that any future correspondence you have with him on this issue (or any other issue) you treat as coming directly from SOE. If he does not know, or is unsure he will let you know that as well. If you would like to question his qualifications as being the Correspondent, I would suggest you go back through his history and read every post before you do. Look at his history as a whole and you may realize how good he is.

We are all limited as to what SOE will allow us to say, we are all limited to what SOE will tell us. Please be more understanding.
