Now the server consolidation as you describe it would indeed be terrible but I'm sure there is always something positive, maybe they at least won't continue to use windows servers... Actually I'm even ready to do a step backwards if things will be better half a year later thanks to that. If it goes on like this, the game will be just as lagging behind in content in three years as it is now.

From the Info I have gathered they don't use a window Format for the server they use a Unix system..

The Report's I have gotten in the Last week it seem's that the Network guy's at SOE have actually Split of the Bria Server componet's into their own fre standing network.. Which if this is true could explain why BRIA server is operating better than what it used to..

They Still will not let us se if they have done enough to this server.. We wanted to see if the new configuration would hold for a Massive Data Load and they would not Let us Do so.. We had bet's down that we would actually break the server.. but we will never know..

SnowTigre..

Psst I really want to see this Game changed and some of the Idea's comment's Listed in this thread are great..

If they use a Unix system then why do they have to shut down the servers everyday and restart them?

I've long said that this game has gone far afield of Raph's vision. I understand the need to get everything working as intended, but I've often thought they were focusing on the wrong things. Combat Rebalance, vehicles, etc. are all fine things. But what this game has TRULY needed to keep us interested while they DO fix these long range hard-balanced issues is the ability tomake our own content. That was Raph's intent from the beginning. That was what got me into this game. Yes, the DWB is swell and all. But where's the ability for me to make my own DWB? If they give US the tools to make content then they can stop making content and focus on fixing things. We can occupy OURSELVES why they make the game richer, deeper, and more accurate.

Even if they use the best operating system on the planet (<-- read as whatever OS you prefer ), it still can't make up for critical flaws in the software running on it. It's probobly another case of the easiest fix instead of the "best" fix.For example: "Hrmm, our database code is borked and we have to reindex every 24hrs or things slow to a crawl. Should we spend time to figure out what the heck is going on? ... Nah! Just reboot and run maint on it every morning and call it good". Not saying thats what the issue is, just an example of how the OS may not have anything to do with the problem.

The rumor was started due to a "job opening" on the Lucas Arts website.... this is for a position which already has an existing similar position, and SWG Is expanding into Japan. IT however even states IN the job description that they would be working withoutside contractors.....

The rumor is false its just people do as people usually do and twist and turn things without passing along the rest of the information just because they have a bone to pick with the game Lucas Arts has always had their hand in the Production of SWG the Producer is after all, a Lucas Arts Employee.

Rumor - Debunked.

You know, considering the track record of lucas arts itself these last few years, my hopes are not crushed at all.

no. Smuggler dreams are a bug and will be fixed next hotfix. Only Jedi should be able to dream.
