Please... please...please don't turn us into a bunch of nerfed crafters (that *IS* what we would be with option B.)
Talk about tunnel-vision
Nobody is forcing you to craft. If you don't want to craft, you'll be able to buy high-quality gear from those who DO want to craft. Even nowI am not making any of my slicing gear. It's much easier and in long-term cheaper to just buy a few crates of pre-made gear than to survey or buy minerals, run factories, etc.
Same thing is with Doctor profession RIGHT NOW. Some doctors craft buff packs. Others who don't want to bother with that - buy them. I think it's an awsome idea.
Option B will HELP our profession out of the rut it's in now.

Tunnel vision is not getting yourself informed about both sides of the issue. Try the link below, it's informative.

Check the slice experimentation debate and put your opinion there and let this thread die.
That thread died in january. Perhaps a new thread would be more helpful.

Either way, it's better than a poll, least with a debate we know people are actually taking the time to get informed and think things thru on seomthing that could have a big impact on this profession instead of tossing out a simple a or b.

"Its not a sham getting an 11% slice, its still an improvement. But God help us all if i dont get my 45% encumberance slice and my 35% damage slice. People are too greedy in this game, its destructive towards the game as a whole."
this is not a 'flame'. its possibly the bluntest, most perceptive way of putting things. slicing should always be a gamble. just last week i sliced a T21 for 32% damage, and the little snot went back and bought anothercrate ofT21s to try and get a 35% damage slice because it drove him crazy that he didnt get the 'best'. there are too many mindless min/maxers in this game who get bent out of shape over 1-2% on a weapon or armor.
this is the problem. *any* slice is an improvement, and no improvement should be guaranteed to the maximum value. itll make the PVP in this game even more damn cookie-cutter, and everyone will be running around with identical crap. do you people have *any* idea whata moronic thing you are suggesting???
a guaranteed high slice range, and the ability to choose what to slice.
within a few days every single player will be running around in 90% base resist armor since they simply went to a master smuggler who got ahold of a 999 or 1000 CD copper spawn and got to *choose* an effectiveness slice.
"hi. i would like this set ofcomposite sliced for 30-35% effectiveness. thank you."
and every weaponsmith would be saying:
"will you give me a flat rate to slice this crate of T21s for 30-35% damage?"
the problem is too many people who are voting in this thread are letting their own personal greed and shortsightedness cloud their judgement. yes, push.. push like mindlessgerbils to get this 'idea' passed because you have that krayt rifle or nightsister armor sitting in your bank that you havent sliced yet, and now youll be able to guarantee an uber slice on it. dont think for a moment that it will be a completely pointless victory because EVERYONE ELSE IN THE GAME will be running around with the exact same thing.
dont even get me started again on what this, and the reduced weapon/armor sales (and all their dependant professions - harvesters, hunters, merchants, etc) would do to the economy.

But the poll gives a simple count up on opinions. We have well over 100 smugglers giving their ideas here so the Devs know what most think. A debate gives a few smugglers the ability to argue at no attention to the Devs.

And what's wrong with greed? Greed is good. Greed is the underlying factor of any free-market economy. When greed is suppresed... can you say "USSR"?
Any economy to succeed needs greed and even more than that it needs stability. That includes MMOG economies. Stability allows people to go out and make names for themselves. I don't care if all slices are capped at 25% with best resources. I want to know that my perserverance in gathering resources and experimenting or my investment in the best possible gear would pay off. Otherwise what is the point?
An example.
Some may say that Doctors must work a lot harder now for their money since buff changes were put in place in Publish 7. On the other hand since that time I have gotten to know a few doctors. I now know which ones are good and which ones are cheapskates who charge 12K per buff but buy worst possible packs that result in 1800-level buffs. Good doctors are making a good name for themselves which results in more stable clientel and more profits. On the other hand if I see a doctor buffing that I know wouldn't give me a good buff, I'm just not gonna bother going to him.
Having stable slicing and ability to pick type of slice is not going to ruin the economy. It is going to help. Not everyone needs damage slice. Some people want speed slices. If SOE can add more types of slices (HAM, wound chance) that would result in weapons still being diverse enough not to have cookie-cutter solutions.
Right now slicing is a commodity. Any master smuggler has the same chance of having high or low slice. Commodities are bad for the game as they take away sense of achievement for both slicers and our customers (customers' sense of achievement comes from being proud to have found a good slicer as opposed to "yeah I got lucky on that one item... to bad it won't be repeated again").
Random slices need to go.
