Thread: Help out Thunderheart Poll on Slicing experimentation

It seems to me people are choosing B because the want their godslices on every weapon. Come on! we need balance! we cant have our cake and eat it too. Even if youre hell of fat. You can have the cake, but no eating. Things cant be easy! B especially would kill the non master smugglers. Some of you people are asking for almost guarenteed 35% slices. no no no, it just wont work.
I dont think that is true. Some of us want experimentation so that there is some variation in spices. Right now people buy spice based on price and convieniance. Quality of spice should be a factor in what spice to buy.
And honestly does anyone get slices from non masters?
Its not real easy to get nice resources. You want to spend your $ on resources? Compete with weaponsmiths and armorsmiths? They make more $ than us. I like only needing just metal, that I picked up cheap, or dug myself (I wont have surveying much longer). What I suggest is that we have a smaller % slicing range. So, at master you dont get the very low % slices, you know what your doing
If you do decide to go the B route... I will be bummed out. But if you MUST do so, then at the same time, allow another idea to be implimented: The ability to slice harvestors! If I have to be hunting resources, and have no surveying skill, I want to see what other harvestors can dig, and what %s are there. Then I can guess where to drop my harvestors. Also, if you are going to make resources matter, make it different stats from other classes. Not OQ and Mal and such, choose a couple of odd ones nobody cares about, or even better, round off all the stats.

slicing has nothing to do with crafting
i dont even have to craft clamps or knives to get the xp, its not crafting

Becuase it should matter what tools you use and what skill level you are. Being a Master smuggler should mean more.
One of the main reasons that I don't do public slicing anymore (only do in-guild stuff) is that many, many people don't know that the results are pretty random and just don't get it. They expect a Master Smuggler to get consistently better results which is why they seek out master smugglers to do their slicing. It is absolutely gut-wrenching when someone gieves you a 9 pieces set of composite armour that they have spent time saving up to buy and they bring it to a master smuggler who then proceeds to get 15% slices.
I'm not advocating that results should be guaranteed, but that chanes should be improved. You should even be able to select which type of slice you would prefer and have a weighted chance of getting that. So for instance a smuggler might be presented with a composite helmet by a customer and they ask for an encumberance slice. You would select encumberance slice and do your stuff. If you are a Master Smuggler using say 90%+ tools and kits you should have say a 90% chance of getting the rght type of slice (encum in this instance) and get a % say in the region 30%+
A Master smuggler should then be able to charge a lot more for their services. If people can't afford a master smuggler's services they seek out a lower level smuggler and take the risk of a lower % slice that is less likely to be of the type they want.
Yes it will make being a lower-level slicer harder, but this reflects real life. A les skilled engraver (as a complete example) will possibly only get to engrave cheap items whereas a master engraver gets to engrave highly expensive items and therefore can command much higher fees for his services.

Once I mastered smuggler I was gutted to find out that I still got as low as 11% results even though I had used quality resources and had all my tools and kits experimented to 99% by the relevant artisans and by myself for the knives and clamps.!!!!
It seems a complete shame that a Master Smuggler who is prepared to go out of his way to get good resources is still capable of getting 11% slices.
If slicing results become more "guarenteed" the economy will only become more inflated. The only thing wrong with an 11% slice is the fact that its not a 45% leet slice. I mean come on man.
Your engraver analogy is terrible, rediculous and downroght stupid. It proves no point than to mirror what youre trying to say.
Its not a sham getting an 11% slice, its still an improvement. But God help us all if i dont get my 45% encumberance slice and my 35% damage slice. People are too greedy in this game, its destructive towards the game as a whole.

I think he has a very valid point which you are going out of your way not to see. A master of any profession should get excellent results most of the time.
Instead of flaming, why not try to produce some valid points yoursef that support your position?
An 11%-15% slice at master should be rare.
