Thread: Out of curiosity... Smuggler Bounties.

Wow, cpz. Your posts are like gold to my ears. It is a shame that I am turning into a BH assh0le though; I've got nothing else in this game left after the unchecked Jedi population has gotten out of hand and destroyed the GCW.
I really think I've had it with this game. It might be time to leave for good pretty soon. Even killing 2 Jedi a day, I don't feel like SWG is being put back where it should be. Now if every player respec'ed to BH and killed two Jedi a day, THEN this game would be set where it should be.
I really feel like I'm becoming a monster. Even an ingame friend saw me attacking one of his Jedi buddies (who I did not know) and screamed, "you used to be a good person!"
I have always loved the Jedi in the movies. Obi-wan is a loose mentor to me in many ways, but I cannot for the life of me wish more that Darth Vader would come into this game and "remove" them all.
This game's capacity for sustaining balanced, fun PvP in the civil war setting has historically and presently been severely lacking. Until they take Jedi out of the GCW or make them extremely rare in public, I'm not planning on coming back.
And yes, I know this is not a "forced PvP" proposal.
What I mean is that there shouldn't be any special "content" for Smugglers that REQUIRES flipping the PvP switch. Those who want the "thrill" can flip it on when they're doing whatever it is that could get them hunted, those who don't want it on can leave it off.
No special rewards, no bonuses, no nothing beyond the ability to be hunted for the PvP people.
PvP was not meant to be required for any aspect of the game.
I'll reluctantly support PvP battlefields and what have you, but it's bad enough the way Bounty Hunters were given a way to force PvP upon other players as one of the few replacements for the real content the playerbase has been repeatedly promised.
There must be an equally rewarding PvE equivalent or this proposal should be binned.

In all honesty- I don't think we will see a Player BH system until we get an Underworld Expansion. Which I believe would be next BUT there are a mess of things to do with the GCW and non-combat profs as well.
Unless the secretDEVs are plugging away at this- I have little hope of seeing it until this time next year (but if theyARE working on it maybeChristmas
!). I do know that they have some thingsdesigned/built like Jabba's Casino and Veela herself said they have figured out how toput in a third faction. Add that to all the big thingsWeshas touched on (or rambled over) and you would have one HELL of an Expansion.
but I digress...
The Smuggling Experience coming soon(tm) will only have NPC BHs. I only hope for two things in this regard:
- That we have varying BHs come after us- in number and in level. Meaning you might have a level 54 BH come at you and then 20 minutes later a level 86 and if you survive that 10 minutes later a level 51 and a level 78- etc, etc.
- That they throw in some iconic BHs that you really aren't supposed to be able to kill- So like, if you see Boba-Fett, you know you should just RUN.
and on that last note. How come I ain't seen Vader and his co-horts droppin' in on these Knights by now. THAT would be a good thing for Jedi.
anyway, I hope to hear that we have an Underworld Expansion on the way. It IS the ONE thing missing that would make this Star Wars- we got vehicles, space, asteroids, STs, Jedi but no Underworld...sheeesh!

Smugglers have MORE than enough skills to counter a BH now, and all that would let the green light shine on smuggler bounties is the executives who make decisions for this game. yep, yep, and yeppers. I might not have the best offense with my template, but I sure can get away....(Concussion Shot, Stopping Shot, Low Blow, ect)....

That is whywe became a Smugglers, isn't it? The Chase.
We do bad things and get away with them until SOMEONE has to come after us but they never can get us.
That is why Smuggler Bounties will play much better than Jedi ones. QFE
People become Jedi because they want the power- or the glow stick- or it's an endgame- or to be Luke- or to be Vader. The Chase to them is a hinderance.
For us it's the thrill. QFE
The only thing they could have better for us than a Smuggler Bounty system is one that gave you points for how bad you are. Like the FRS system. That way when we died we would lose points towards that. QFEQFEQFEQFEQFEQFEQFEQFE!!!11!!!!1! I can see us walking up to an "informant" in a cantina to see our "visibility", or bribing a spynet bothan dude.
...and like I said. I don't plan to do much dying. Concussion shot and my 337 Base DPS DL-44 XT for teh win!
The other thing a Smuggler Bounty system would have overthe Jedi one is: Smuggler's KNOW when they need to run so you won't hear any crying about a Smuggler not being able to handle 5 BHs. Again, concussion shot and my 337 Base DPS DL-44 XT for teh win!

Given that Smugglers do not have thepotency of the high level Jedi in combat and the fact that the systemis not supposed to keep the profession's numbers in check, but rather add content, a balance must be struck somehowwith the number of BHs who can gang up on a Smuggler so that it's not just one long death fest, but an interactive and entertaining game of cat and mouse, which ends up with one outsmarting the other, and/or resulting in two equals slogging it out, with the best equipped and themost skilled winning. It is vital however, that in attempting to achieve this players are prevented or very strongly discouraged from exploit play, such as a friend of the Smuggler taking up the mission and then not hunting them (perhaps a fine 3 times the amount of the bounty could be given to a BH who does not pursue their mark). In order to facilitate the sense of being part of the larger world, as mentioned, the bounties need to come from both large NPC organisations that we'll see as Smugglers' employers once the contract system is in play, but also from players; so essentially, in order to have the complete experience, player bounties are required and perhaps also player Smuggling would be required as the cause of these bounties. I'm rambling somewhat, but the point I'm trying to make is that designing such a system is convoluted with many desires for a host of features that all require seperate thought and planning and could themselves spin off to require additional features and systems in order to support them and make them viable. There's a whole lot of cool ideas and great possibilities with such a system, but in order to do it right, we may end up getting something that's not all it could be, simply because there's neither the time, resources nor inclination to implement anything else given the vast amount of work that still needs to be done on the game.
