Thread: A BH asking about Feign Death--please don't flame

Heh, we're not arguing. I don't like seeing the Jedi play dead, or the Master Swordsman Bounty Hunters equally. Its just stupid and annoying. And I also agree with ya on the combo I mentioned not being a real Bounty Hunter.

I actually feel the only solution to the bounty-FD problem is a countermove like /inspectcorpse. I think if you make it so that only animals or NPC/PC's could attack or break it would be harder to code. This includes disabling FD during bounty missions - which would probably lag the server checking the status of "character in a bounty mission fight".

There just needs to be a counter. Riflemen used to have it, now I feel it should be given to BH's.

I can see your point. Having a dice roll would be an interesting way to tone down FD usage in bounty missons. The use of spice is another creative example.

It would be a whole lot easier (and a whole lot less frustrating)for people involved in bounty missions if FD was disabled. It would also take less coding. Hell it would just be nice if there were one counter to FD. What the hell happened to the rifle shot that pulled people out of FD?

Feign death is fine as it is. The only problem about the skill is that the jedi have way more to loose than the bh when they stay to fight and that many (not all bh) are grievers who take on targets who cant really defend themselves. honestly. every jedi should take up smuggler just to get away from the investigation 3/TKA/defense stacker grievers with their gank squads. those are the ones who hurt the game and bring the grudge against feign death. they cant take on a real target like a knight (and those have never feign death) because they are sissies and so they go to hunt someone about as badass like a novice marksman (i.e. a padawan). If you want a solution to this problem allow only bounties on jedi which are worth more than 175k of credits and let only master bh get missions on players (one of them is not enough, but the first one would be a good step). Those dont have feign death and either stay or fight and those are, if cleverly played, very well able to defend themselves against the above mentioned griever template.

Dont nerve us smugglersbecause some stupid grievers whine about people who dont want their fun to be spoiled (and no, a padawan is not your content free to abuse and spoil his fun and work only cause you can grind up to investigation 3. get a gun and grow a set of balls)

The issue I have with the "FD is ok, the problem is with the BH and Jedi dabbling in Smuggler to get it!" is that it ignore completly the issue that would rise if Smugglers ever end up on the BH terminals.

Exactly. As a very big part of the Smuggler community is actually for Smuggler missions and bounties, I'm amazed that the same community is so vocal about leaving the Feign Death move as it is. It just means that every Smuggler bounty mission would end the same way - like half of the Jedi missions do now.

Yea, I think we need to start thinking about that. I like the idea of leaving FD as it is, except make it not work during bounty missions. Playing dead on the battlefield or in a small scirmish is one thing, playing dead in front of a trained and well paid assassin is some else entirely.

Someone suggested getting another person's dead body and passing it off as your own. This could be done in a good role playing sense if a smuggler had the connections to pull this move off, especially underworld connections. How it could be timed or whatnot is another story.

Plus, if the devs were to nerf Feign Death, they would be looking at a very very sore smuggler community.

If they were wise they would incorporate FD changes with the smuggler revamp, where we hopefully get to smuggle

I like your reasoning Ternque01, but I haven't seen why you don't want to see a stricter modifier to the FD roll? I think this would be a far simpler solution as it has been pointed out by others. The scale is completely maellable. It would be simple to change the range on FD so that atDF1 your at 10, DF2 25, DF3 50, DF4 75, Master 100 (or 99 if you want the possibility of a failure).

I think it would be much more managable if Jedi and BH FD trollers only had a 10-20 % chance of success. To make it even a 50/50 shot would require an extra 7 SP's over DF1. That's juts a suggested scale. You could easily go extreme and be something like 5,10,20,30 then 95 at master.

No one likes to see the missions be all for nothing, both ones that are in the game now and the hopefull ones for Smugglers. However I'm always hesitant to take something away that we already have. It's easier to keep it and adjust it then it is to remove it and replace it (mostly because the timetable between the remove and replace would be 6-8 months).

This would be my favored option, despite liking the /checkcorpse skill, removing the skill from bounty missions, and some of the others that we've seen.

Good discussion guys.

Well JediArashi, I do see a problem with adjusting the roll modifier. If the chance is 10% of succeeding at DF1, that just means a player just has to spam it in their combat log until it works.

I think a more viable solution is to alter FD in PvP situations. Include a more spread out roll factor over the FD skill tree, but apply a timer to the special.

For instance, a Jedi who is suddenly attacked by a BH hits the FD key. This Jedi only has DF1, and therefore has a 10% chance at succeeding. If the Jedi fails, he/she cannot try the special for another 15-30 minutes.

This will keep it from being abused, and we all know that a 10% success rate equals 100% if it is spammed enough... just my two cents. (Which I put in once... with a timer )

I still say my solution covered most all points.

Well, this is what I know to be fact:

--- At Fan Fest, someone asked about FD in the Hybrid Forum. Interesting response then came from a person on the panel (not GreenMarine, but the guy next to him,) that said FD is one of the few moves in the game intended for PvE only.

Aside from that, my personal opinion on it is this:

--- FD shouldn't be a PvP move. Period. However, since it will most likely be left untouched, it is my opinion that a toon should only be allowed ONE FD per encounter, say, 1 FD per every 10-15 mins of PvP. I do think it would be really nice to have success/fail rolls, and modifiers, but that would be asking the devs to actually WORK on our profession, which I doubt will happen within the next 10 years. I am so sick and tired of seeing Jedi possumwhena BH chases them. They are Jedi, they need to die with courage. Pansies. They are the most powerful profession in game, but tons of them won't stay standing and duke it out with a BH.

/snicker

At least when I PvP, I die with pride, guns a blazin, like a true smuggler. FD has no place in PvP, if you're going to FD you shouldn't PvP. The point of PvP is to kill and be killed.

Just my two credits.

Um sorry but it's been said time and again that FD is intended for PVP as well as PVE. There has been a long running debate even between the devs it seems.
