Thread: PLEASE do not nerf Feign Death!!!!

I have compiled all the good ideas I read and added a couple of my own.
I really like this, although I would like to see some PVE incorporated as well. Some kind of aggro-management is needed, as we can cause havoc with FD in dungeons and group situations. But I do like the idea of a sliding scale of FD effectiveness. Allowing dabblers to use it is fine, but someone with DF1 should simply not be as effective asa master, asis now. This in itself would nerf FD down some while allowing dedicated users to retainits current use. The /check_pulse trick would also make it much more interesting, and help counterbalance theaddedstrengthsyou outlined.
That said though, I really don't expect any of this to happen. Why would they code something substantial when some hack timer code reduces the problem? Sure, there will be more corpse-camping and none of us would use it anymore (retaining aggro and eliminating the time to heal while down ruins it), but there'd be fewer /reports & /bugs submitted, and Jedi/BHs would find something else to exploit. They could throw us the usual "We'll fix it in the revamp thatswaiting for all of you in the Land of OZ!" bone, and be done with it.
SOooo.. my input is to find a workaround for FD, as we're not going to have it much longer.![]()

I think they should make it PVE only, then theres no problem with PVP griefers and the like. When your deadyour deadend of story.
You shouldn't PVP in the first place if you dont have the skills to back it up and you use FD as a crutch.
Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

The problem with that is if you recall from way back they had issues with determining PVE vs PVP death in terms of whan they wanted to change decay. They had to make it factional which includes faction missions which are pve.
Now what about the instance where you have a smuggler doing faction missions and an overt imp comes to try and gank you. Thats a mix of PVE and PVP.
I say the easiest solution is reduce the modifiers up dirty fighting and have large modifiers at master. So the FD dabbler will not succeed as much. That will solve it for the most part. The PVP'ers have the issue with dabblers, not master smugglers.
If you recall they did the same thing with buffs. The med use of D packs was in the 70's. There were too many good buffs so they simply make the med use in the 90's to make it so the dabblers had to commit to doctor. The same thing can be done here and let us keep out FD as master smugglers.

My temp has next to zero defenses, I could dabble somewhere else to get defenses, but I chose FD to be my defense.
you are one brave soul, either that or crazy
I'm in the same position as Magnusocc (Master Smuggler/Dancer). I can shoot and run very fast. I've mastered the art of selecting between Muon or Pixie and if all else fails, I leave a very convincing corpse. I also agree that the system we have now doesn't work. I also don't want to see the ability reduced to uselessness.
Onesuggestion is this:
- For PvE, leave it untouched (except for fixing the bugs)
- For PvP, treat it as an insured clone with no decay.
Or
The smuggler appears as a corpse.
- Anyone with diagnosis can check to see if the corpse is actually a corpse (Diagnosis vs Feign Death skill).
- You can use Diagnosis in combat for this purpose but it's at a penalty (Combat medics get this penalty reduced).
- It takes 2-5 seconds to use Diagnosis for this.
- Any corpse can be checked (To pervent the obvious "I can't check him, he's really dead but I can can that one but it's telling me he's dead so I'll just sit here and wait until I can check again." )
- If the check fails, then that person can check again and again forX amount of time but the result will always be the same (the time span should be fairly short because of the potential of team members not cloning right away to help cover for smugglers).
- If the check is a success, then they get the option to deathblow.
Yes, doctors will most likley discover that you're faking. But they have to stand still to do so
Doc checking corpses= easy target & valuable target.
Yes, novice medics will havenochance of finding out that that a master smuggler is feigning death and a very small chance of finding out if a smuggler with dirty fighting 4 is feigning death. But wow, I bet there is alot of people into PVP who have novice medic and that one corpse that hasn't cloned in a while is going to have a dirt path around it and to it. If it's in a town, they'll probably drop a signpost named "Smuggler Feigning Death" on them
So, if the problem is that one profession or another is abusing this ability, we should look at how to penalize that profession. Now, I'm not exactly sure what would be a fair balance with Jedi and BH's. But I'll try some ideas for each.
Bounty Hunters:
1. Make Feign success less likely at the lower levels and only always successful at Master Smuggler.
2. Make BH characters gain visibility on the BH terminals after a number of failed missions.
3. Make FD auto-fail the BH mission. Even if we don't add visibility, the FD killing the mission should at least play to the Jedi's favour. They saved their skin and THIS bounty hunter won't be coming back any time soon. To the Jedi, the BH may as well have been killed.
4. Fix the BH system so that a given BH can only get a given Jedi as a target once. Then the Jedi is not available until the Jedi is cleared of their visibility and regains it (read: someone kills him or he lays low for a while).
That ought to make them think twice about feigning.
Jedi:
1. When a Jedi being hunted by a BH feigns, the BH mission succeeds, the Jedi's visibility goes UP several notches, and the Jedi pays a very small experience penalty.
2. In order for this to not be abused, item 4 from BH needs to be applied to prevent a BH/Jedi duo from ravaging the BH terminals for cash.
3. Consider halving the BH payout on feigned Jedi. As an alternative, consider paying as much as the Jedi's bank account will cover of the BH payout. So, if you feign, the BH gets his reward out of YOUR account.
"Well, it worked. Jango thinks your dead. Of course, when Jabba finds out you're not you'll have a lot more than Jango to worry about. Every bounty hunter in the galaxy will be after you."
