Yimaz is right and Caylin touched on it. I'm about ready to start cranking down on it and getting something together even if it's a rough draft.

Let the community see this draft and comment. Then we go back and refine it further based on feedback. Throw the next draft out and tear it apart. Rinse and repeart until we have what we want.

Everyone isn't going to get everything they want but yet, there won't be anyone who gets everything they don't want. There'll have to be compromises.

I do like the idea of a "focus group" because it's near impossible for a community at the size of the forums to collectively build a document. But because of the communication deal, which I think should be a big part with the community, we should be putting something together and letting the masses really decide what we put together.

Caylin?

I hate to ask... what would happen if we sent them two seperate revamp documents? Since there are so many issues at hand, and we have about 1/2 of the community on board for either side of most debates, perhaps two documents that had different aspects of each issue would help.

The things i believe every smuggler is agreed upon is we want to become a valuable profession in the game at large, and have a skill set that compliments every other aspect of our profession. These are obviously two things that everyone has been thinking about as they present their versions of the revamp document. Except, with TH and the other devs being a bit AWOL since E3, there is little to know of what we can and cannot expect.

For instance, many ideas for the Slicing, Spice and DF line have presupposed a smuggler bounty system being instituted. If, however, that system is not put in place, many of these other ideas would become moot, or at the least much less effective. In example, if a smuggler-bounty system is not created, there is much less need to slice BH terminals. While it would be nice, even in that circumstance, to remove Jedi bounties from the terminals, would it not be better for us if the devs instead focused on a seperate aspect of our profession that would better compliment our new or current skills and content?

This community has put together so many wonderful ideas that fit so nicely together, it would be a shame if, due to those mysterious 'technical issues,' our profession simply morphs into another hodgepodge of unrelated skills and abilities.

Its a good point but you have to remeber the dev's dont have the time to review1 re-vamps never mind 2 they did not want to take the time to review Caylins 100 page out line and it had some great stuff in it. We need to just give them simple concepts that we want. The dev's are not going to do everyhting we want them to do and if we give them page after page of re-vamo ideas they will just do what they want. We have to keep this simple the slice re-vamp from earlier in this thread is a blend of idea's the slice out line (which i hope somone offers direction on) is also a blend of idea's. Again, the dev's dont want us to tell then how to do there jobs they just want what we would like to see in the game. I think we are over thinking this and making it alot harder then it needs to be.

oh ya and as far as BH terminals. If we are not added to them we can still slice into the terminals. It would be a Teff for 15min like killing an oposing faction member(its outlined in the last slice re-vamp, see above)

Spice

A total revamp of spices needs to take place to make them viable in an economy ruled by chef food and buff packs. New spices can be added for Master level, and all spices should not be replaceable by a newer version.

1. Lower level in-game spice get change to effect skills notHAM

2 Gold and Pixie stay the same and we still have the new spices. The duration on all 4 Master made "topshelf" spices should be 45minbut keep the 3min maxdowner.

3. Experimentation on spice making its "down time" shorteror its "up time"last longer depending on what you use to make it.

Have Smugglers transport spice in an active, content oriented way, asan option other then but still includingproducing spice. Smugglers would be the middle man between criminal NPC factions and the player base.

1.NPC missions (organgs, thugs, what ever)that offer up as reward, say5 to 20crates of some rare supper spice. (how fast you finish the mission is how many crates you get and yes everyone will do the missionsbut the market wont get flooded cause the dev's control the suply)

The smuggler who wants to grind out the best spicecan nowdo that.

The smuggler who wants to run missions and be the middle man, can nowdo that.

The old in-game spice get a face lift.

Spice over all (do to all 3 changes) becomes a viable item again.

We all need to give a little to get a lot. Smuggler please read the slice and spice with an open mind and if you can say "its not exactly what i want but its close, or there is some stuff i wanted in there" then we are on our way.

Come on guys we really need to stop fighting for one point of view or another and blend these idea's into simple easy to follow outlines that the dev's can work on. Remeber the dev's want changes that everyone can enjoy.

A focus group, Caylin??

why would we want it to be read-only? i thought the idea was that the whole community would chime in.

the point is we need to get this rolling. time is running out if we actually expect the Devs to act on anything we say. And it certainly sounds like there are some wide ranging opinions on what is desired in a revamp. The fact is the wide range is within the community, and it can't be closed until the issue is brought to the community.

a better way to go about it would be: start a thread or two about the issues that there is much debate about (like whether we should include Smuggler Bounties, and in what form, and whether Spice should be crafted or not). And figure out a consensus about it. Then take it to a small group to refine the exact wording etc based on the overall consensus of the community.

The problem with a small group doing the document before any community discussion is that they are going in blind, not knowing what the will of the community really is. What a focus group is (in the true sense of the expression) is a small representative group that is selected to get an idea of what a larger group feels about something. That's not what we have happening here.

I know whenever I write something for the community, I love having it open to the community, but it also causes me to have to listen to everyone else, when I need to concentrate on getting it done. Thats why I said read only, it just gets cluttered up from everyone having their say. Very much like you see here. The person then has to read all of that, then put it together and that just takes even more time.

You don't need my approval or help in this folks, I am the intermediary, I'll help as I can, but I can't do everything. That's why I was glad to see Geevo step up.

There's a big ordeal about the whole spice thing vs chef. Well, why doesn't it get set like this

Chef gives bonus foods and stuff, but notice, there isn't really any serious side effects. Brandy? Pop it in, yay you're minded up for 2 hours.

Spice? You're buffed up for a bit then you crash.

Now...without making chef nerfed....why not this idea

Spice IS illegal...right? but it has the same effects as chef does but also has a crash. SO...seeing there is a penalty for using it.....you should increase it's effectiveness

CHEF:
Bonus

SPICE:
Bonus
Crash

doesn't make sense...why would you get spice?

Spices should have their effectiveness increase to make up for the crash. That way...yeah, you can play it safe and get some chef food. No problem...or you can decide to get some supah-spice oh yeah! but....you also eventually crash.

That way....both are entirely based on the personality of the player. Some players like to play it safe....chef gets all the goodies, but some players like to get a ton of bonuses and push it to the edge....smuggler gets all the goodies.

At the moment...spice and chef food is so similiar, except spice gets a crash.

Doh, forgot to add this.

With the proposed spice change, it would be like this

Chef:
Bonus

Spices:

Bonus++
Crash

Ok vamp ive had a chance to look at your post on the slice re-vamp;

Bounty Hunter vs Smuggler is seprate from the slice re-vamp. What I mean is lets put the Teff concept in for sliceing Bounty Hunter terms as a standard function of slicing to clear a jedi's name and it is a PvP mini-game.

Bounty Hunter vs Smuggler would go into the content section of the re-vamp andunrelated to one another. I see the re-vamp doc like this:

Content (2 or 3 short idea's, like infamy)

skill tree re-vamps

closeing points.

This way all our bases are covered, at worst we would have a teff system to at the least have some fun with BH's and Jedi's. At best we get a full rich bounty system in placelike what the jedi's have. So in short both idea's world be in the "community re-vamp concepts sheet"one in the slice tree (we want more shizot to slice anyway) and the other in our over all content re-vamp.Cool wit you all?

BTW do we want more stuff to slice (i.e. droids speeders yadda, yadda) and if so what are they and what are some ideas on what we can do to them?

Yimaz, the spices summary was decint. I think it could use a bit of editing to make the meaning a bit more clear but it has the basic concepts. The slicing outline is very well written. There's one thing I personally need clarification on though.

b. The addition of a Slicing Modifier: Slicing would be similar to crafting with experimentation points replaced with slicing points. Scaleable number and types of items to slice based upon skill.

If I'm understanding this correctly, this means when we click the slice option on something, we get the standard expirimentation window to pop up like what I would get if I expiriemented on a weapon while crafting it. We then modify the available attributes using our expirimentation points (renamed to slicing points). Am I understanding this correctly?

If I am, I really like that idea. It removes the idoicy of cutting wires in a wood staff or stone knife.

All in all, clear and concise. Good job and thanks for posting it.

oh, vamp (im home so the ADD is kickin in) can you put a short (very short) concept of risk vs reward based on your idea's together for the content part of the doc? I think most smugglers do infact want some sort of Bounty placed on their head. We can let the dev's figure out in detail how this would be done but we need a strong/powerful short (3 to 5sentence's) statement about this topic, "the jedi's have we want it as well"type of thing.

Also all smugglers:

content is an issue we all feel need to be addressed bountys are one way to do this, what are some other content type things we could offer up the the dev's? Remeber simple simple simple. For exmaple Caylin's idea on being the middle man for spice (as one of the 3 changes in the spice re-vamp) is a killer idea and would add content for sure. Lots of little stuff will add up.
