As for slicing bounty hunter terminals to remove smuggler names, that suggestion by itself presumes an awful lot about other proposed systems (like Smuggler Bounties). Just slicing the terminal might be a little bit too simple to reverse a Bounty. However I do think we should use slicing as part of the system for getting out of a bounty, perhaps for throwing Bounty Hunters off the track by slicing travel terminals, or slicing the Bounty Hunter terminal to gain information as part of a process to have the Bounty removed.

Yimaz,

I've been reading this the whole time.

You touched on part of the problem, and that is the overfloading of ideas. There are too many, but yet they can be just as valid or interesting as another persons ideas.

I can whip out this proposal in about a half hour if I wanted to, but it would operate solely from my perspective when it is supposed to be a community document. We all have ideas and even in your proposals, things like slicing the BH terminal, I don't agree with, not because it isn't a valid way to do it, but because I really just dislike the thought of it. Yet others like yourself like it, I'm sure. So finding the right balance is required and that is a very tough thing to do.

What I've been trying to do is get some information from TH, I've sent about 3 emails over the last week alone asking questions about this to him and I've yet to receive a reply on any of them.

There are no closed doors on my end, Geevo has the reigns on this, he wanted to do it. This time I'm just another contributor which is just fine by me. I would like it done by this week, but we will see.

ok how does this look to you all?

3. Slice re-vamp 2.0

a.Smuggler vs BountyHunter: The ablity to slice into Bounty Hunter Terminals and remove the names of Jedi. A Smuggler could gain some sort of BH tiff for 15min for doing this. Also ajedi will want to seek out a Smuggler for help (like in the movies). It would create a very cat and mouse type of mini-game and it is still consent based combat.

b. The addition of a Slicing Modifier: Slicing would be similar to crafting with experimentation points replaced with slicing points. Scaleable number and types of items to slice based upon skill.

c. Slicing Tool Certifications: Re-cert FAN’s and Clamps to Novice and Slicing 3 respectively for use, not crafting to encourage a FAN economy for up and coming Smugglers and prevent the abuse of using Clamps all the time.

d. The Smuggler's Personal Weapon: Gives the smuggler the ability to experiment on their own weapon. Slicing it to possibly a broader range of modifications. What can be modified and by how much is dependent on skill level.

It's not a problem Yimaz, it was a fair question, I'll probably rewrite a weekly report tonight, but there isn't much to report sadly.

The big things that have been happening are this template, talking with some smugglers over emails, reading over all these forums and trying to see how we can piece it all together to reflect the community as a whole. There has been nothing related to me by the developers, or anything asked of me.

I've sent a few emails to TH once he returned from E3, that as I said, I have had no response to. They primarily consisted of questions akin to when he needed this done by, questions on spice and how far we can go (For instance the option of going ground-up redesign of that tree and if that is even an option) as well as expansion questions. If they consider us a space expansion profession I'd like to know why at this point, since we are working on our revamp...

Posted on the c-forum a bit, not much smuggler related there though. That's the substance of what has been happening on my end as far as correspondent work.

You had every right asking me about it, so no worries there. Questions honestly come by are fine, and it's not as if you said I was doing nothing Though I've been slacking a bit on my reports to the community, even if there isn't much to report.

Caylin and Yimaz,

it sounds like the central problem is one of organization. how do you come to a decision about what is right, and what is actually coming from the community, and whether the two can even be the same thing.

for something like Smuggler Bounties, this is something that is apparently distasteful to some people and has others drooling in anticipation.

or for instance, getting Spices from NPCs instead of crafting them. Some think this is a must-have while others don't care for it.

i think all we can really do for that is acknowledge the two-sided nature of it. perhaps the best thing to do is present the devs with a smorgasborg of concepts, that they can peruse and select from. if Caylin (and others) want to present a system for Spice acquisition from NPCs, we can have a thread to work on that. But also have a thread to consider how the revamped Spice tree might look if it remained a crafting issue.

Likewise I earlier presented an idea for how Smuggler Bounties and Smuggler Missions might be two sides of the same coin for the Underworld tree: one PvP and the other PvE. Some people liked it, and others didn't care for the idea of being hunted. But the idea was that for those people the Smuggler Missions would provide content.

Now it could be that the Devs choose to implement PvE Smuggler missions (and not have Bounties), and keep Spice crafting. Then neither Caylin nor I would be particularly pleased, but ideally we presented a good system for Missions and Spice crafting, because we saw that it might come to that, and at least we get something good.

So I guess what i'm saying is: can we include multiple discreet variations in the document? can we say for instance, "here is a version of our Spice tree revamp that has NPC Spice Missions to get spices, and here is a version that just enhances the craftable spices."?

Or do we even need to be that specific? Can we just say: "We'd like you to entertain the possibility of NPC Spice missions, or Smuggler Bounties"?

My suspicion is that the devs are already leaning towards a particular system involving Smuggler Missions to acquire things that other Players might want. I don't think they are planning on changing the way we get most Spices, and I don't think they're planning on implementing some kind of Infamy system (as much as I would love that). I think they'll just have Smuggler Missions, where you can run off with the booty, and get a Bounty on you for doing it. Or something close to that. I'm actually very curious whether they've already locked some things in and just want a pool of ideas to fill the rest in with, or what.

Again my personal preference is that we have a variety of abilities/products/services that are desired by other players, but that put us at risk or force us to do work to use/get/sell them. While that is quite open to interpretation, I like the idea of Infamy because it's a sort of all-encompassing risk factor that can be used across different skill trees (Slicing, Spices, Underworld) to add up to danger in the form of Bounty Hunters. In the system I presented, PvE Smuggler Missions can be used as a substitute for Infamy, basically doing extra work instead of taking extra risks. But that was included for people that are really against being hunted, as I personally think the straight up Infamy system would be really cool by itself.

But based on what we've heard from the Devs so far, I can predict the basic formula will be: Smuggler Product (reward) is derived from Smuggler Content (risk). What form the Product and Content will take is what is up in the air. And again, my preference is that the Content (risk) involve Bounty Hunters.

Vampirerobot,

I agree with you 100%, its what ive been hoping would happen with this thread. I have no real desire to pusheither way on many of there-vamp idea's I think they are all great. The dev's will look for what will work for a broad band of players. I think we hit that goal with the spice outline. It is easy to read,it is a blended and simple version of a lot of ideas. It is a "concepts" pagefor the dev's to work off of and I think that is what they want to see. When you have someone over to fix your TV you dont tell them what wire to cut, you tell him what you want fixed. I think the same rule applies here.

Nothing? I cant believe this so we are just going to sit around and say things like "hey ive got an idea for spice" until the re-vamp hits huh? Everyone has idea's yet no one is talking about move forward. Idea's, idea's idea's great......Where is Caylin? where is Geevo why is no one talking why is nothing going on? Is the re-vamp a for your eyes only type of thing and the community cant seeuntil caylin and his team are doneworking on itor is everyone so burned out now that they dont want to do it? Is this a community re-vamp or the re-vamp of a chosen few?We **edit** about communication with the dev's but i see nothing going on here and its been like thisfora month?Yes im a little peeved butonly because no one is talking and no one is moving forward.

Hey I have an idea for our re-vamp.....lets get it done!

I hate to ask... what would happen if we sent them two seperate revamp documents? Since there are so many issues at hand, and we have about 1/2 of the community on board for either side of most debates, perhaps two documents that had different aspects of each issue would help.

The things i believe every smuggler is agreed upon is we want to become a valuable profession in the game at large, and have a skill set that compliments every other aspect of our profession. These are obviously two things that everyone has been thinking about as they present their versions of the revamp document. Except, with TH and the other devs being a bit AWOL since E3, there is little to know of what we can and cannot expect.

For instance, many ideas for the Slicing, Spice and DF line have presupposed a smuggler bounty system being instituted. If, however, that system is not put in place, many of these other ideas would become moot, or at the least much less effective. In example, if a smuggler-bounty system is not created, there is much less need to slice BH terminals. While it would be nice, even in that circumstance, to remove Jedi bounties from the terminals, would it not be better for us if the devs instead focused on a seperate aspect of our profession that would better compliment our new or current skills and content?

This community has put together so many wonderful ideas that fit so nicely together, it would be a shame if, due to those mysterious 'technical issues,' our profession simply morphs into another hodgepodge of unrelated skills and abilities.
