This is by far my favorite Idea. WS, AS, BE, Tailor, Cheff all get to do this, wouldnt be too much of a streach if we could also.

I second Starphire's idea...would've been easier to implement than this QFE loot system anyways...and it will allow smugglers to become distinguished. Better quality resources = better quality slicing tools = better slice. So simple and obvious it makes my head hurt that it doesn't work this way.
I miss the excitement and anxiety when slicing a premium weapon just hoping you don't hit below 20% and ruin the customers day ![]()
At least with crafting the components and allowing the addition of loot drops as optional components there is the excitement and anxiety factor,
*I just put my only delicate trigger assembly into making this slicing component, experimentation, please don't fail me now!*
Maybe I should just stick to weaponsmithing

This would be a nice idea but I can't change the rules each 5 min, so would all who voted for Xeranx ideabe kind to point me to either option please?

As with WS...let us do our jobs with crafted components and make it something special with a high end loot part.
Loot parts dropped from logical sources, NOT a trigger assembly from a Krayt. Make them drop from higher level NPCs..Jabba's, Valarian, Marauders, Imp, Rebel etc. say, CL70+
On the subject of Smuggler quest. Give us a long drawn out quest that will take some time to complete with a limited use schem for a upgrade part that's a bit better than even the loot drops.
Combine ground and space, include any of the Smuggler based NPC's already in game...Jabba, Valairan, Talon Karde, Borvo, Nym, Han & Chewie.
It will be a stretch but maybe make it fun, immersive, a good story that we actualy care about and make it hard.
By, "hard" I don't mean the current SOE version of hard = CL427 mobs that respawn in 3min (DWB/Corvette) or mobs that spawn once every 3rd Tuesday if it's partly cloudy.
Make it require thought, make the conversations with the NPC have a point, and for once make the effort involved worth the reward at the end. As opposed to the Empire Day disappointment or killing a CL84 Nightsister and looting a combat staff.
On a side note...let us "slice" ship parts ![]()
Maybe just Engines and Blasters or maybe Chassis for a bit more mass.

Well no love for option 1 or 2 so far.
Regarding the answers and the data it seems players wants :
- Smugglers missions (aka content)
- Loot from theses missions (as rewards)
- Slicing implemented like all others crafting professions with Experimentation points and looted components additives.
