Thread: [Poll] Loot or crafting?

this is pretty sad, smuggler is not really considered a combat profesion but now we are being forced to enter into combat to be able to do our profesion proficiently. We are not technically crafters so crafting is not really smugglery either but preferred to combat. The slicing scale is pretty pathetic for added value. This just seems vary poor for what we had been told for the past XXX number of patches etc. I have stood by and agreed with most of SOE's direction but now it is getting very hard to even sign in anymore. I have several templates on several servers/accounts, and it seems that they are gearing towards the power gamer or the eBay Jedi. I am very happy with my current characters but it seems they are able to do less and less each patch.

I would like to have it be that the normal additives be crafted but the better the material the better the slice, hence the loot stuff for top end stuff. That will set up an economy of sorts. Adventurers running out, taking down hard foes, getting loot and trading with smugglers. (Be it money or for slicing.)


But I would also like to see some of the benefits taken from the (hopefully eventual) smuggling missions.

I want slicing components to be both looted as they are now and able to be earned from smuggling missions. I want the high-end slices to remain rare, however, something special; otherwise, you may as well just remove the entire component system, as it'll just be unnecessary hoops to jump through and unnecessary inventory taken up by meaningless items. Perfect slices every time isn't "our job." In fact, the very notion runs counter to much of what being a smuggler is about.

Furthermore, I want all slicing components to be treated as contraband, with the high-end stuff creating harsher penalties for those found transporting it. I want these penalties to be meaningful to the point where one should want to think seriously about hiring or being a smuggler before attempting to transport them.

I don't want much.

But you forgot the most important : you want smugglers to be able to slice your ships components

Well, I do also want some ship slicing, it's just tricky to figure out how to make that work when the devs consider space to be mostly balanced (arguable though that may be). I did think the notion of POB slicing was a great one, though, both in terms of mechanics (POBs need to be much better) and smuggliness (I seem to remember something about a tricked-out YT-1300 from the movies).

I ain't just passing by, either. I've been rolling around in the gutters of this forum since the day I registered.
