If you will read my post a bit more carefully you will see that I did not tar the entire community. I only tarred the majority of the community. I have yet to see something that would change my view.

It's a simple question. Why have the prices been raised? What has happened to the community that has made this occur. One response on this thread says that he price of inorganics has gone up. That is about the best answer your community collectevly has come up with. I dont believe that it is a viable answer but at least it stuck to the theme. Did the smugglers from all the galaxies come together on this board and decide to enmasse raise prices? Or has the phnomenom just been a progression of greed? Docs get higher prices for their profession due to real revamps that have actually raised they're costs significantly. Smugglers have yet to date had any kind of revamp. After looking at this forum I've seen it is in the works. Due to the current state of smugglers today i'm extremley fearful of this majorities' greed once your revamp does go into place.

Slicing is probably the only marketable business we have now. If you are on Wanderhome I will gladly slice whatever you need for 5k on a good day or 8k on a bad day...per piece. If you don't like the prices I suggest you try not dealing with an underground character who is breaking galactic law by slicing your weapons and armor.

Ok Rocky...you got your rational answer...(I fail to see how the other answers provided before that were NOT rational, but I digress)...

You can now head on back to your player city. I'm sure they've launched a massive search for their lost idiot by now and will be most happy for your return...

I'm having a hard time understanding why the price of slicing has gone up. Every time i ask a smuggler for a qoute invairably i'm told that slicing is completly random but, that the price has gone up. Has there been a slicing revamp that i'm not aware of? Have the knives and clamps gotten more expensive or better?(i.e. lower the randomness) Have the tools become harder to make? Why has the price gone from 100creds per % to 200creds per % or even 4k to 5k per slice or higher? (i've seen armor being sliced at a flat rate of 5k per piece no matter the outcome) I left for a month to try lineage 2 and when i get back and actually need a slice i find things have gone haywire.

After reading the post on on eclipse about a smuggler actually stealing a players weapon it brings scary images of the gameplay from lineag back to mind.Thievery was rampant and the customer service reps there would tell players that other players are allowed to employ anystratagey of game play they wished. Is this what our smuggler community has dropped to? There were smugglers from this board on the eclipseboard defending the proffesion. Please help me understand how the smuggler proffesion can be defended.

Though this may run contrary to the arrogant/rogueish image that most smugglers try to maintain, we are likely the single most trusted profession in the entire game. You give us your (sometimes) ultra-high-end-spank-me-harder-uberweapons and armor usually without a second thought as to whether or not you recieve them back in the end; with modifcations to boot. You just assume that we are going to give them back, and any smuggler that wants to stay in business will do just that.

All we ask for in return is a relatively small pittance of credits that likely run far less than the actual item itself; especially when you consider the fact that on average, they will be at least 20% better than when you gave them to us.

Many of the smugglers i've run into will even take a moment to educate you on what is possible and not possible for them to do to the item in question. We admitedly do this for selfish reasons as well, like saving ourselves the potential headache of a whiny/dissatisfied customer.

Personally, I think I've been about as patient as I can be with the customers, and only resorted to selling all his items on the bazaar once when he refused to pay me the agreed upon amount. I wouldn't have even done that if he hadn't started spamming in spatial about how I was trying to cheat him, and wouldn't give him his stuff for free because "ur slices r sux". No one in the area blamed me one bit for that unfortunate outcome, but a couple of them thought I went a bit too far by shouting "comp armor pieces for 3k on the bazaar!". But c'est la vie.

I suppose the moral of this whole story is, don't piss off the guy holding your stuff. And we (smugglers) can charge any price we see fit. Afterall, those credits you give us are buying our loyalty for as long as we hold your item. So pay up bub.

One thing is sure, you're bound to not get much support for price issues here Anyway, I just went master yesterday, and the current plan is to charge 5k flatrate. This isn't due to auto pulling being gone (I never experienced it before), nor does it have anything to do with me having to pay 10-15k for a buff, it's simply what I think the service is worth. People have to pay for me having to click my way through 560 (or there about) Shadowpaws, begging everyone and their dog for containers, also for the to me useless underworld tree tying up skill points, and let's not forget the single point for the master title.

However, all is not bad, nearly no one actually needs a slice, I'm sure there's also cheaper smugglers around, if you're an armor/weaponsmith (*hint* signature) you might also be able to haggle your way down. First and foremost, I didn't become a smuggler for the money, but rather the interaction, both good and bad, with people. I guess if smugglers in general found out the market couldn't or wouldn't bear it, they'd lower the price, but as of now, what is 5k credits really to you? Take a single unbuffed hunt and you'll have 2-3 pieces of gear sliced.

Inever tried to degrade your profession slickdevil, only the extorsionists that make up the majority. Even thieves can have honor. If you dont want to provide the service that stems from your profession to the public, then don't be a smuggler. It's the job you signed up for so quit gripping.

As for the rest of you. I stopped getting slices a long time ago due to the rampant attitudes and opinions i find in the general smuggler population that are reflected andexpressed on this post. Every time i try to talk to a general smuggler in an open setting (i.e. starport) the first thing that is expressed is major attitude. I can prove this by refering you all back to the 50 some odd posts. Look at your selves. Look at the vien most of you have steared to. Blantant attemps at a personnel attack. When i made any kind of inflamitory comments they were directed to the general populace. You people feel the need to make flaming personal attacks. Every time it's done you "smugglers" prove my point.

Did it ever occur to any of you that one reason you are a dying breed is because your customers are tired of being treated the way i've been treated on your own forum? Several of you complain about how tiresome and tedious your proffesion is. Makes me wonder why you stay with it. Alturism? Benevolence? Hah!

As for being a troll please see how many posts i've ever actually made. 9 i think off the top of my head. Hardly a troll. I had a question that i couldnt get a answer to from the credit grubbing smuggler general populace so i brought it here. Low and behold it took 40 something posts for one of the few of you that doesn't have contempt in his heart and the maturity to give a viable answer. (thanks again bzzzz) So go ahead and flame some more. It is very entertaining.

1. slicing is a job? it's an ability we have. nothing says we have to do it. it's kind of like healthshot1. it's an ability i have that i never use.

2. we are a dying breed because most players want a good combat profession.

and i responded to you in a non-combative way. look back at my post. why do i charge so much? because i can. supply and demand.

smugglers take a very strong stance against being called thieves. that's the reason so many attacked you.

Hah what a flaming troll. Now I must agree with one of the afformentioned posts, this guy doesn't care why or what we do, he's just looking for a rise.

I suggest you learn some things about spelling, punctuation, and paragraph breaks Rock because your post was more painful in format than in content.

My god Rocky, how can we do ANYTHING but flame the living hell out of you?

Your thread title, least you FORGET who made the first attack; "Are smugglers really thieves with no honor?"

First, a thief takes what does not belong to him. Our customers come to US and GIVE us their money even though they don't have to.

Second, honor has abosolutely NOTHING to do with price of a service or product. Do you even KNOW what the word 'honor' means? That was rhetorical since it is obvious you do not.

Third, you have BEEN given logical reasons for the price increases. That YOU choose to ignore them is YOUR problem.

Fourth, I as well as most smugglers do NOT have problems with most of our customers. In fact I have had my prices questioned MAYBE 10 times in the course of a year of being a master smuggler. YOU are the acception to the normal customer that finds our services valuable and worth the money spent. Many of my customers give me large tips on TOP of my 5k price.

You came here and SAID that most of us are "thieves with no honor". If you don't call that a personal attack I don't know what it is. Just because you didn't specifically name names doesn't mean it wasn't a personal attack. In response you got your sorry punk ass flamed...as deserved.

NOTHING you have said here makes a whits bit of sense and was presented with a complete lack of manners. Again, go back and read your Subject line....idiot.

Why are you still typing? You came in here, supposedly to question us about our slicing policies, and we then gave you an answer you apparently accepted. Why are you still here? Why are we still in question? Why the attacks? In case you've forgotten, I've included a passage of your first post where youpostured thatthe "smuggler community has dropped to (thievery)," highlighting the juicy bits. You then went on in following posts to call us brigands and other delightful things. If you've conceded that our pricing is indeed valid and driven by market-conditions instead of evil greed, then why the continued assault?

Whether you decide to differentiate between the "majority of us" and the community or not, you're still drawing stereotypes based on reasons you yourself have invalidated.

Oh god... this is truly one of the best threads I've read in such a long time. So many times I was ready to respond... then I realized it's 3 pages long and that I was sure everything I would say would have already been said.

Rocky is obviously someone who heard some horror stories from his little buddies about smugglers stealing thierprecious CDEF weapons(they probably deserved it) because they don't have but 5K in thier banks. So in turn he comes and flames the smuggler base and makes wild inflamatory statements that he cannot back up in any way, shape, or form and has the arrogance (used properly) to get blown out of the water and put on a smug grin andSTILL think he's right. You flame someone, pal, they're going to flame back. Our POV isn't: He's calling us arrogant! If we reply, we'll come off more arrogant! Let's not reply! We'll look arrogant!

Smugglers are a very tight-knit group in my experience. The other day at the Coronet bank, there just happened to be 4 Master Smugglers, myself included. What did we do? We certainly didn't swap stories about our arrogance and stealing people's uber weapons... we talked about how we've pretty much been screwed by SOE, our future revamp, JTL... smuggler small-talk.

Obviously Rock is just some kid who doesn't have the time or drive to become a smuggler for himself. I DARE you to become a Master smuggler, and then NOT totally agree with us on every issue in this thread.
