Thread: Are smugglers really thieves with no honor?

It's a sad, sad day when *I'm* being the rational one.
Why are you still typing? You came in here, supposedly to question us about our slicing policies, and we then gave you an answer you apparently accepted. Why are you still here? Why are we still in question? Why the attacks? In case you've forgotten, I've included a passage of your first post where youpostured thatthe "smuggler community has dropped to (thievery)," highlighting the juicy bits. You then went on in following posts to call us brigands and other delightful things. If you've conceded that our pricing is indeed valid and driven by market-conditions instead of evil greed, then why the continued assault?
Whether you decide to differentiate between the "majority of us" and the community or not, you're still drawing stereotypes based on reasons you yourself have invalidated.

Inever tried to degrade your profession slickdevil, only the extorsionists that make up the majority. Even thieves can have honor. If you dont want to provide the service that stems from your profession to the public, then don't be a smuggler. It's the job you signed up for so quit gripping.

I charge 7k a slice, because that is what it is worth.
Time = money. It takes awhile to do a slice. I give my customers a happy /smile and an rp experience, they get weapons improved, and I walk away a little richer.
Out of the past 100 customers, two complained. I don't see your problem. I've got to pay for those 20k buffs somehow.

It was a simple question and it took you smugglers with the chip on you respective shoulders for bzzzz to fonally give me a rational answer. Just for your edification lynnth ive been playing since sept of 2003. ive matsred medic/ pistoleer/ two-hand/ brawler/ scout/ and TKA. not that i care if you know or not.
Actually, it wasn't a simple question. A simple question is: "why are slicing prices going up?" A LEADING question would be "why are you guys trying to rip everyone off by raising your prices?". the latter is inflamatory and rude. How something is asked is as important as what is being asked.
Now, to your question, I charge more per slice for 3 reasons:
1. armor, weapons, and buffs are all important to my exploration habit. these all went up in prices, so I need to make more to cover those costs.
2. I can't walk through a starport without being waylayed by someone wishing 10 minutes of my time to slice a couple suits of composite armor for them. It takes time and resources to do that which could have been spent elsewhere doing something else besides helping this player, so I am trying to recoup something in return.
3. I'm of the opinion that sliced armor and weapons should be rarer and therefore they should be more expensive. However, I'm poor most of the time and in need of credits.. so I cave in and slice stuff anyways.
I don't know what amount of resources a buff uses.. but a slice uses 120 just for the mol clamp and upgrade kit plus a charge off of a knife.
Hmm maybe I should pay more attention before posting. Oh well.

If you will read my post a bit more carefully you will see that I did not tar the entire community. I only tarred the majority of the community. I have yet to see something that would change my view.
It's a simple question. Why have the prices been raised? What has happened to the community that has made this occur. One response on this thread says that he price of inorganics has gone up. That is about the best answer your community collectevly has come up with. I dont believe that it is a viable answer but at least it stuck to the theme. Did the smugglers from all the galaxies come together on this board and decide to enmasse raise prices? Or has the phnomenom just been a progression of greed? Docs get higher prices for their profession due to real revamps that have actually raised they're costs significantly. Smugglers have yet to date had any kind of revamp. After looking at this forum I've seen it is in the works. Due to the current state of smugglers today i'm extremley fearful of this majorities' greed once your revamp does go into place.
Look prices are elevated due to inflation. I don't know what you think my time is worth but I do, and 5k per slice sure isn't overcharging. I don't slice for the Generalpublic anymore because I have severalWS and AS clients that pay me well over 5k per slice totake care of crates of weapons. I have people that message me from different planets pay for my ticket to them and then tip me 50k for slicing a rare weapon. They don'twhine when I get a speed slice they just say thanks for coming and then we chat a bit. These people area pleasure to slice for.
The normal Starport slice goes something like this:
DukeFartsmeller:"Hey where are you?"
Me: "In front of the SP by such and such trainer"
DukeFartsmeller: "slice for me , and get a good damge slice"
Me: "I can't garantee a damage slice its completely random. I charge 5k per slice"
DukeFartsmeller: "Ok and use that special trick you know where you add something."
Me: "sorry I don't use that exploit"
DukeFartsmeller: "Oh ok well here slice this"
(So I slice it and get a 23 damage, then I tell the customer out loud 23 damage)
DukeFartsmeller: "Oh man I told you damage, I ain't paying for that." (usually this part involves some curse words too)
Me: "I told you what you get is completely random"
Ect ect....
This goes on for a while until you threaten to sell his weapon for the 5k he owes you. Now do youstill wonderwhy the price of aslice has gone up?If you sit outside a starport and slice for an hour you will deal with this at least 5 times inthat hour. It's just not worth it, not worth the time to explain that slicing is random for the 100,000,000,000 time. Not worth the time to argue over getting paid when said random slice doesn't produce a 75% damage slice with ultra kill traits. Not worth the time trying to make the client understand that you don't exploit.
I have been charging 10k per slice for a whileif people don't like it I tell them to pack sand, mostpeople go Ehh and pay just happy to have found someone willing to slice for them.
Lastly this is just the way it is.
