Thread: A Decidedly Unpopular Opinion
Whatever. Considering where you are posting this, this post is nothing but well-written trolling. Nothing more.
Look, a big part of the devs job is to add new content to the game. And you can't just always add this content to the lowest common denominator which seems to be what you are suggesting. "Oh, does this neat thing we're considering affect everyone? It doesn't? Well better pitch it then...". Baloney. That would only work if there were no different races, professions, and so forth. If everyone's toon was essentially the same, then yea, it would be a lot easier to always provide new content that applied to everyone but that is just not the case (thank gawd).
I really wish that the devs could add new content a little at a time for everyone, rather than doing nothing, doing nothing, doing nothing, and then BAM revamp. But apparently, right or wrong, that's how they've chosen to allocate their resources. And you pointed to the Jedi revamp hurting the game. Well, how about the chef revamp? Are you going to argue that this hurt the game as well?
No, for my part, I'd like to say "Devs, I'd like a big heaping spoonful of added content to the classes I play please". And not begruge others from expecting the same thing with the classes that they play as well.

Han DID shoot first. Stupid greedo never got the chance.
5* for you

I charge 100 credits per % on slicing. Always have, and the tip money by FAR outweighs anything I would have made by charging higher prices.
I play the character as a rogue and a scoundrel. Han Solo is my hero. Oh and by the way, he shot first.
What I am not is a thief. Nor do I want to be a pirate. Swashbuckling silver-tongued merchant, sure, but not a pirate.
I do not want a Smuggler revamp.
Now that you've cleaned off whatever you just spit on your monitor, let me say that again. I do not want a Smuggler revamp. Let me tell you why.
Look at the love the Jedi got. Then look at the love the Jedi got again. Then look at how neglected the rest of the game was as a result. Rather than address core issues that affected every player, they wasted months of development resources on trying to get Jedi right, only to have the Jedi community still complaining.
Imagine now how much better the game would have been, as a whole, had SOE focused instead on combat, or loot, or making player or NPC cities better places to interact with others. They could have improved systems that touched nearly all facets of the game, thereby makingthe game a better place for everybody. And now that JTL is released, and Jedi are past their second change, there are signs that the devs are starting to do just that. Yet every new thread with news of every new improvement is spoiled within minutes by the same old song:
"Fix Smuggler."
To the hundreds of people who read those threads, comments like that makethe Smuggler community look like nothing more than a group of spoiled children, and it only gets worse for anyone who happens to wander into the Smuggler forums. Petitions, complaints, and long-winded talk of magic elixers overwhelm the senses.Don't get me wrong, Ienjoy my Smuggler character, but I wonder how many people - new players to the game, perhaps -get turned off when they come looking for info. I know I sure do, and to be honest if I ever did give up Smuggler, it would be out of disgust for how I see the community acting toward SOE.

Having a Publish dedicatedentirely to Smuggler, or evenasignificant amount of a publish dedicatedto Smuggler, and not having a revamp at all is a false choice. It is quite possible to incorporate the bulk of the revamp into seperate upcoming publishes, particularly the Combat Upgrade and the GCW Revamp. Also, it's possible to incorporate the larger community into the Revamp, particularly with a spice upgrade and other benefits, in order to avoid animosity from other Professions. After all, not many complained when Chefs were able to craft more goodies that have come to benefit virtually every other Profession.

I charge 100 credits per % on slicing. Always have, and the tip money by FAR outweighs anything I would have made by charging higher prices. Good for you. I charge 5k a slice and still make tons of money. I have been tipped 5 mil for slicing an exceptional weapon...but to each their own. This has nothing to do with your thread.
I play the character as a rogue and a scoundrel. Han Solo is my hero. Oh and by the way, he shot first. I play as a scoundrel too, and yes he did shoot first, but didn't Han Solo smuggle?
What I am not is a thief. Nor do I want to be a pirate. Swashbuckling silver-tongued merchant, sure, but not a pirate. If we wanted to be pirates, we'd ask. We want to be smugglers. Are you upset because the icon we got is too pirate-y for you? That's the only thing I can see having to do with pirates. And in that sense, we are a small part pirate. Pirates are rogues and scoundrels too.
I do not want a Smuggler revamp. Deep down inside your soul, you are not a truesmuggler if this is your opinion. I respect your thoughts, but there is no way you can have the heart of a scoundrel and not want a revamp.
Now that you've cleaned off whatever you just spit on your monitor, let me say that again. I do not want a Smuggler revamp. Let me tell you why. Enlighten me.
Look at the love the Jedi got. Then look at the love the Jedi got again. Then look at how neglected the rest of the game was as a result. Rather than address core issues that affected every player, they wasted months of development resources on trying to get Jedi right, only to have the Jedi community still complaining. That's because Jedi are notorious whiners. And furthermore, I'd be really worried if people stopped complaining, it means they don't care about their profession. There are always ways to make a profession better. We must be persistent in nagging the devs because if we didn't, I feel like nothing would ever get done on a semi-normal timeline.
Imagine now how much better the game would have been, as a whole, had SOE focused instead on combat, or loot, or making player or NPC cities better places to interact with others. I agree with you there. They could have improved systems that touched nearly all facets of the game, thereby makingthe game a better place for everybody.Making smuggler a dynamic profession is something that will affect every single player. If you know someone who fights without sliced armoror a slicedweapon that isn't a Jedi, please let me know. I have a bridge in Alderaan I want to sell them. And now that JTL is released, and Jedi are past their second change, there are signs that the devs are starting to do just that. Yet every new thread with news of every new improvement is spoiled within minutes by the same old song:
"Fix Smuggler." Why do we write this in development threads? To remind the devs we are still here, and broken. Smuggler was added into the beta 2 weeks before the game went live. It is empty and we are an afterthought. Imagine if BH couldn't hunt marks. They'd be pissed. Smugglers not smuggling is like someone mastering weaponsmith, and not being able to craft weapons.
To the hundreds of people who read those threads, comments like that makethe Smuggler community look like nothing more than a group of spoiled children, and it only gets worse for anyone who happens to wander into the Smuggler forums. I think you mean "red-headed, beaten, crippled, manic depressive children." People know how broken we are. Petitions, complaints, and long-winded talk of magic elixers overwhelm the senses.Magic elixirs? Move along, this isn't the EQ2 forums.Don't get me wrong, Ienjoy my Smuggler character, but I wonder how many people - new players to the game, perhaps -get turned off when they come looking for info. I know I sure do, and to be honest if I ever did give up Smuggler, it would be out of disgust for how I see the community acting toward SOE. Good. Leave the profession. Go find something worth your time. I'd rather have people decidedly NOT become a smuggler until a revamp happens. At least then they don't cancel their accounts because they're so disgusted by the devs' complete lack of honesty and commitment to our profession.
So please, Devs, don't spend another moment trying to revamp the Smuggler profession. Instead, make the game a better place for all, and in the process include the Smuggler profession as part of a greater whole. Again, the CU is going to balance the game. They are doing that before the profession revamps. Also, as I said before, a smuggler revamp will affect EVERYONE. Not just smugglers. It will make this game a more immersive, liquid society. I want to be a criminal, not some dandy that doesn't have a care in the world because I'll never get caught.
Thank you. You may now flame as you see fit. You're welcome.
Let's say there are 500 dedicated smuggler characters in the game, on all servers. (WAY low, but you'll see why even this number is insulting..) They pay $15 a month to play. That's $7500.00 a month that we pay to be frustrated. Add to that the $30 initial investment, that's another $15,000.
Let's multiply that by the 14 months we've been strung along, lied to, and now having our posts deleted for calling them on it... Hmm, let's see.. $120,000.00.
One hundred and twenty thousand dollars we've paid you to not develop the characters class we want to make a valuable part of the game world..

I know I swore off the Smuggler forums, but I had to say something when I read this.
I missed you guys too. Scylla's really dead, so I lurk around here a lot more. I have a kickass new job, so I haven't been in game much, but I still read up on my beloved profession.
/giggle thanks for the flower!

That's why the CU is being done first. It's a huge change to the way combat and relating systems work. All that will be done and tested before the profession revamps, of which Smuggler will be one.
