I don't want to flame you... well yeah I do... seriously though, I have one HUGE problem with your statement. In no way shape or form can we, or whatever revamp we get be compared with Jedi. Every other profession revamp was not as taxing as the Jedi revamp. Go back and look at the dev cycle on those.
Go back and look at the time from concept to implementation, and then take a look at ours and you'll see why people post the way they do around here.
I would like to see the core of the game fixed, even if it means waiting a little longer for our revamp. I fully support the CU coming first even though our stuff was supposed to have been at least started on long ago (which would mean it probably could have been finished earlier too), but what exactly is so broken about the loot system. Yeah, it would be nice to add some more stuff to the game, but you know what I saw with the last loot addition? More macroers killing meatlumps for the loot.
One final note on all of this. The threads that are being posted, besides the ones for humor, tend to fall into4 categories these days. What someone would like to see in a revamp. Someone leaving the game (and we actually do care in this forum). Someone pointing out yet another slight in some way or another (please go back and read the History of the Smuggler thread, and then think about how many things are not on there). And last but not least, we have the we want some damn communication threads.
There is something justifiably wrong with the fact that professions that have already been revamped or have not even enter their "development" cycle yet recieve more dev's posting about changes/additions/fixes to their profession when we receive zero confirmation on our status, the status of bugs that we were told would not make it into live, and bugs that we've been told would be fixed right away.
So maybe I had more than one problem. I do not intend offense with this, just want to explain my position in response to yours.
Thanks,
Zane

Let me pose a question: What are the most iconic professions of Star Wars? Keep it in mind while reading this post.
I am insulted.
Nounverber wrote:
My character is a Master Smuggler. It was the reason I created him when the Tempest server went live, and he has been a Master Smuggler for almost a year now. /nod I've played around, always keeping some smuggler. It's part of my personality; Smuggler is my Edo and my id.
I charge 100 credits per % on slicing. Always have, and the tip money by FAR outweighs anything I would have made by charging higher prices. That's nice. Free marketing and all. I see and get more profit 10k per.
I play the character as a rogue and a scoundrel. Han Solo is my hero. Oh and by the way, he shot first. As do I.
What I am not is a thief. Nor do I want to be a pirate. Swashbuckling silver-tongued merchant, sure, but not a pirate. That's it! We smuggle, not steal.
I do not want a Smuggler revamp. /raise eyebrow
Now that you've cleaned off whatever you just spit on your monitor, let me say that again. I do not want a Smuggler revamp. Let me tell you why.
Look at the love the Jedi got. Then look at the love the Jedi got again. Then look at how neglected the rest of the game was as a result. Rather than address core issues that affected every player, they wasted months of development resources on trying to get Jedi right, only to have the Jedi community still complaining. Nice try. The thing is, we need it. Do we even smuggle? No! Jedi have lightsabers, and can use the force. Bounty Hunters hunt marks, Weaponsmiths make weapons. Not revamping us would be like taking away a BH's ability to hunt.... I agree, we need the GCW and CU first and fast. Those should have been done way ago. Jedi = A pandora's box that never should have been opened. But that's another issue.
Imagine now how much better the game would have been, as a whole, had SOE focused instead on combat, or loot, or making player or NPC cities better places to interact with others. Yes, I agree. They could have improved systems that touched nearly all facets of the game, thereby makingthe game a better place for everybody. And now that JTL is released, and Jedi are past their second change, there are signs that the devs are starting to do just that. Yet every new thread with news of every new improvement is spoiled within minutes by the same old song: News of every new improvement: What new improvements?
"Fix Smuggler."
To the hundreds of people who read those threads, comments like that makethe Smuggler community look like nothing more than a group of spoiled children, Eh? Spoiled? E'oh! I don't think so. We are brfoken, you can see that. Asking to be "normal", aka fixed, is not being spoiled. and it only gets worse for anyone who happens to wander into the Smuggler forums. Woe to those you learn of our plight.... Petitions, complaints, and long-winded talk of magic elixers overwhelm the senses.Don't get me wrong, Ienjoy my Smuggler character, but I wonder how many people - new players to the game, perhaps -get turned off when they come looking for info. There is plenty of info; veterns are always willing to Help.I know I sure do, and to be honest if I ever did give up Smuggler, it would be out of disgust for how I see the community acting toward SOE. I am insulted by this remark. I am disgusted. Us veterns are very helpful in addressing questions. We have, by far, the best communtiy of all the professions.
So please, Devs, don't spend another moment trying to revamp the Smuggler profession. Instead, make the game a better place for all, and in the process include the Smuggler profession as part of a greater whole. I agree. There is no way to fix the past wrongs. The game issues should have been taken care of long ago instead of Jedi. Then we could have been worked on. There is no readon for not being able to put in some hotfixes and patches.
Thank you. You may now flame as you see fit.
Insulted again. Come out and tell me why you one-starred me. Critique my post! Point out my errors.

You have some points but like many others I think you're misunderstanding what many of us want. As has already been stated, the main thing we want right now is information on when the revamp that we were promised almost 1 and 1/4 years ago will be occuring. We already know that Dirty Fighting, Spices, and (hopefully) Slicing will all be improved by the Combat Upgrade. What we're looking for is for information on when some of the other things that we've discussed with GreenMarine will start being worked on in earnest. Honestly, after the Combat Upgrade, I think all we need to do is change the contraband system and implement true smuggling.

Yeah, very true, the first two would be more like little minni games, something to pass the time, Teh crackdown was a great idea just needed more teeth. The tef masking would be cool though. Maybe its the way I play my smuggler that makes me think this way. I like the Talon Kard "information broker" kinda smuggler ,hack into systems to get what i need , that sort of thing. Not that it wouldnt be fun trying to bust through an imperial blockade with a load of spice. If this all seems random and makes no sense , i just got done eating way too much turkey and all that goes with, so my appologies.

Dont see it happening? It is really not a tuff thing to do.
1. mission terminals (glorifield delivery mission) - mechanics are already in game just need smuggler terms and missions in criminal theme parks.
2. NPC quest - mechanics are already in game and any or all Crime theme parks are all set for this.
3. Tuffer Imperial crack down (playergood's smuggling) - mechanics are already in game.
4. Group/Jedi/Faction Tef masking (player smuggling) - mask sent is in game so the basic mechanics are there.

Okay, after reading, re-reading, and scaning through all of nounverber's posts, I've come to a conclusion.
#1 He is either not actually a Smuggler, just tring to rouse the community.
#2 He is actually one of those Smuggler/smiths out there, who just wants to sell sliced stuff.
#3 He's a dev trying to get us to not want a revamp.
#4 Or he's just a simple-minded person who doesn't really understand how broken this profession is.
Note: Numbers 1,2,3 are jokes.

Spoiled children? How can we be spoiled children when we never get anything? We're more like the angry sixteen year-oldkid who gets smacked around by his drunk step-father.

Ok, this turned terrible. Nounverber notes in his second (or maybe third but the second was deleted somehow) how his faith was restored by our responses to his thread, then all of a sudden there are posts that are more inflammatory?!? What?!? I don't get it. I'm going to chalk it up to posting from the orginal before reading the rest of the thread. I would think that some of the vets would know better, but they must have just been moved by the subject matter.
I, too, wanted to jump in and defend our profession, our community (especially), and our hopes; but it looks like it was taken care of. I see a lot of the expectedly well thought out posts in response. Good job guys, and kudos to you Nounverber for admitting that you were able to see the bright side of our community more clearly in response.
All in all a good dicussion I think,if we aren't continually challenged, how can we expect to grow. We are a solid,close-knit community and we proved that again.
Now break out the Colt 45 and swigaway!
