So, random yes. Even, not hardly. I wouldn't be suprised if those pieces that would really benefit from a specific slice were somehow weighted to get the less beneficial slice.

MisterCode....
All of the armor data in my original post I DO have broken down by piece. But if you can wait until next week, I have beenaskedto slice another 30 suits of composite this weekend, so I can add them into the totals. I will try to update everything on Monday or Tuesday.

I want to comment onthis post. This is both wrong and almost right.Larki's post (page 1)was based on the post above his that I thinkhe mis-interpreted. The post above his was referring to a 30% damage slice only, NOT a 30% AND OVER slice.

According to my data, you have about a 12.1% (169 out of 1388) chance of getting a 30+ damage slice IF YOU GET A DAMAGE SLICE. However, since you only have a 50-50 chance (approximately) of getting a damage slice, that lowers the odds of a 30+ damage slice to about 6%.

This means if Larki brings me 30 VKs, he should hopefully see one or two 30+ damage slices.

Actually you have calculated the chances against the overall slices (1388) wich means that you actually have a 12.2% chance of getting a damage 30%+ slice each and everytime you slice a weap. If you got a damage slice the number increases to 24.8%. Am i not right? You should get about 3 or 4 of thoose VK's sliced for 30%+ dam.

I just checked it. You do have a 12.2% chance of getting a damage slice of 30% or more, if you round up from 12.17%. That is overall on weapons and that includes the possibility of a speed slice. To me that seems like pretty good odds. I think I have had some very bad luck with weapon slices, only have had maybe 3 or 4 of my weapons with a damage slice over 30%. I mostly just buy pre-sliced stuff, and you can see why.

i thought you guys figured this out a couple months ago.

anyway, newbie smugglers there ya go. its all random.

this is why i dropped smuggler and went straight to doctor. until the smuggler revamp, that is. hopefully

I thought random meant it would be an even distribuiton : / I could have my definitions mixed up though...

Since it looks to be on a bell curve, that would mean two or more variables are involved. For example, rolling 1 six-sided die (so hard not to just put 1d6) will give you a 1 in 6 chance for a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 every time.

Rolling two six-sided dice will give you a bell curve (decreasing probability at the ends of the curve--maybe someone else can do the numbers if anyone cares). Just in terms of enjoyment, I don't think an even distribution would be as desirable because high slices and low slices would be just as common as mediocre ones. I'd much rather have high and low (especially) be rare, and most in the middle.

For those who feel this all just can't be random...stay out of Las Vegas.

Wait wait wait.

Before you guys waste alot of work trying to determine if quality matters just know that GreenMarine even said it very recently in our forum that tool quality doesn't matter and that master smugglers DO indeed recieve a bonus to slicing over slicing 4

Hey, run a combat simulator on those pistols. Because pistoleers don't have a good pistol speed mod(unless they have BH pistols too), if they are not krayt, speed sliced geos will actually have a higher dps. I sliced 6, and found that the 4 speed sliced ones were all higher dps to my pistoleer 4342(pistol speed +42)than the best damage sliced one.

Rifles are a different matter since masters have +90 to rifle speed. After I sliced a crate of t21s and got 18 speed slices, I almost gave up completely on slicing.

Gloves 11 1
Boots 4 8
R Bracer 6 6

I think you're still looking at too slim of a sampling to make any statements. I purchased a comp helmet about a month ago, sliced it myself and got enc. Purchased another one later (was in a full armor set), took it to a master, he got a 41%enc. A few days before that, while i was still grinding up Slicing IV I sliced some girl's bone armor helmet (for free cuz i wanted to be nice.) 23% enc, which is fairly good for someone who's not even a slicer.

Now, based on this sampling, the only 3 helmets i've ever had any contact with (either owning or slicing myself) i have a 100% enc on helmets. Does that mean that the next helmet I slice will be enc?

Now, i'm not saying that there ISN'T some kind of weighting based on the piece of equipment being sliced. But until you're looking at samples of 100+ per weapon- or armor-TYPE, I don't think we should be making guesses. We'll see what Wayne's data gives us next week, and make our determinations from that.

I have to agree with the fact that it is random, and I agree with the statement that there are streaks.

There is probably something like smugglers luck, which means some days your on and others your not.

Logistically I'm not sure what type of algorithm it would take to do this butdoesseem to ring true.

The other night I sliced a couple of knives and I nailed 32 and 34 respectively. I did some armour and sure enough I had very good results with 9 pieces one of which had a low of 21% and another with a high of 41% effectiveness.

The numbers make sense, and the graphs are well done. Just on a hunch though if I slice something and get a sub 20 number I'm gonna avoid slicing for the night...

I think I've seen a devs post on this before...confirming it was random. But, I'm sticking with my hunches as it hurts no one but me.

Hey Wayne,

You said you imported your info to your program from a data file? What was the format? I'll start keeping my own and send it to you sometime and you can break it down. If we all did that, that would be a helluva lotta information to look at.

IceMonkey05...

My utmost apologies - I have been away from the forums for several days in a row. Hopefully you will still see this reply.. I will PM you also and ask you to check this thread...

It would be FANTASTIC if I could get other people to record accurate slicing information.

In answer to your question, I described by file format on the first page of this thread...

Here is a clicky to the post that has my data file format -->
