How can this still be debated?
The human mind is arguably the best pattern-matching computer in creation. It's so good that it frequently makes judgements based on little, no, or erroneous data.

Only in quantum mechanics is the outcome of the experiment influenced by its observation. In statistics, it just ain't so. Yes, the ODDS are that after 5 speed slices, there'll be a damage slice. Guess what, I have yet to see the warranty implicit in a statement of the ODDS.

An equally (in)valid case can be made that if you're in a run of speed slices that the next slice will _also_ be a speed slice, because there's a pattern.

Give it up. It's random. There are no black helicopters, and the water doesn't have mind-control drugs in it.

Maybe not your water.

Seriously, adding mind control drugs to public water is like adding viagra to a convent's water supply. Amusing for visitors, but ineffective for locals.

FrankLee raises avalid point, if there were mind control drugs in the water over a period of time the locals would become immune. The short term use, however......(thinks of presidential election)

Why would you go to the trouble of creating a system that simulates randomness, when one of the simplest programs around is a random number generator? Ockham's Razor man, Ockham's Razor.

Random Number Generators do exactly what I just said.... seeding the clock. The number MUST come from somewhere.

Ok, in a desparate attempt to save myself from being a stupid mathematician, i would like you to answer a simple question :

I'm an armorsmith/smuggler, master in both professions, what do you suggest i should do to only get effectiveness slices ?

Last time i was ordered a sliced composite i had to craft 6 chest, 4 helmets and 8 left bracers in order to get the full set conveniantly sliced. If you have any method that would avoid me to make some useless slices and thus making unsalable armors, i may be ready to believe in any god you wish. But you'll have to be pretty convincing, with more than words, i want facts, hard cafts like : " TO have effectiveness slices, first I do ACTION A, then FACT 1 happens, which leads immediately, to a successfull effectiveness slice." If you can't offer such a method, then, you're just BSing everybody, including yourself.

They may have just some the simpliest form of random...seeding the clock.

It's a programming term in which the computer suddenly grabs the exact time (in computer form) which is like 5.49203 or something along those lines....then add a lil more code that cuts out the useless numbers till you get a simple number. Do a simple lil code that makes 0-4 dmg 5-9 speed

You are exactly right. Every RNG(Random Number Generator)I've seen is time seeded. Basically the RNG will provide you a random floating point number between 1 and 0. wich could be 0. 1 or 0.453632 the possibilities are infinite. Then using smiple mathematices you can transform this into a usable number:

Int x = ((RNG) X 20)

Sets the Variable X Equal to a Random Integer(whole number) between 1 and 20.. congratulations you just turned your computer into a glorified D20.

Fundamental Rule of Programming: no RNG is perfect. This will NOT follow the Law of Averages over the short term. X will be more likely to end up as say.. 17 than 5 (just an example this is not really the case) for a short period of time. However over the long term, it Will follow the Law of Averages. being based on time, as time changes so do the trends of the RNG.

Now it is also possible to force the RNG to be more 'Random', in order to make it more closely follow the LoA over the short term, however this can be just as predictable because where before you could look at results and assume they would continue to be the same, now you could look at them and assume they would be different.

It is still my firm belief that the programmers here intend the system to be as unpredictable as possible and that slicing is by design: RANDOM. Therefore determining patterns and using them is cheating the intended game design IE: EXPLOITING.

My Apologies to those of you just waking up, and haven't had your coffee yet.. It may be a bit too early to think that in depth into mathematics and programming

One of these days I'm going to make myself a sig... just too lazy to..

"slices can be accurately predicted by following the patterns"

ok so do you wanna tell me why the feck i have sliced my last5 Krayt Jawas for spd even tho i have done them when i am most likely to get a damage slice

this is starting to piss me off at the moment especially the last one which was sliced for 15% spd either side of which was a 35% damage on a plain old boring scout blaster for a new marksman and a 33% damage slice on a stun baton (non acklay) for a leveling fencer

i have spent a lot of money on tissue so far all of which i may as well have flushed down the toilet becuase at master which i have been since the second week after chimerawent live ( nearly 8 months ) i havent got the slicing experince to choose what slice type i do *cough BOLLOX cough*

Ah, that's right... 0-1 on seeds....the other numbers I was thinking of are the decimals...ie 0.2039386

then you can do whatever with it...any fomula you please. Even if you HAD the formula...you'd still have a VERY VERY difficult and nearly impossible task of getting the number on the money seeing it IS in the .###########'s

First off, "predicting a slice" and 'controlling the outcome of a slice" are two totally different things.

If you could control the outcome of a slice then of course it's a no-brainer to predict. But predicting a slice doesn't necessarily translate into controlling the outcome of a slice.

Personally, I don't believe that predicting our slices is possible today, but even if it were, for me it's hardly worth the time nor the effort required to do so.

There is, however, a way tocontrol whether or not you get a speed or damage slice on a weapon. Although I have not yet recieved response to direct questions asking whther or not it is an exploit. The method of doing it, is in fact, exploitative in nature.

Last week, I made a post asking all of you if this was a confirmed exploit, and although nobody was actually able to say "yes, I've heard of exactly this and it IS an exploit", the post was quickly deleted by the forum moderators.

Lets face it folks.......Slicing is random. If SOE wanted it any other way, we would have known by now. So enough of these conspiracy theories.

It really WAS an SOE developer up on the grassy knoll.

Just an interesting thought, ever since my post on the coins, the original creator of this thread hasnt responded. I'm not saying it was me who did it. I'm just point out that it's a hella way back since we've asked for the conclusive or more swaying proof, and we've seen nothing.

IMO, lock this thread not. Those who understand this Slicin' game is random win.

I've been Trolling these forums since near Launch, which is when I first remember seeing posts of this topic. I could be mistaken, but If I had saved those threads I could copy post, and it would be the exact same thread, too include the digs at the community, and the same person starting it using the same manner of speech, all that has changed is the date.

The conclusion now is the same as it always was. I just wish This person would stop beating this dead horse.
