Thread: Those Devs really hate Neutrals

I'm not disputing that the GCW needed work. I'm saying that there was room for everyone in some aspects of the changes, and they refuse to include that. In their drive to make the GCW more meaningful, they are alienating an entire group of players.
Do you realise what something as little and simple as changing the way the police factions will be interacting with players would eliminate a lot of the grumbling about this stuff?
1. they're not refusing, as i understand it. the changes being made now are something they can make now. the bigger GCW revamp and hopefully Underworld revamp (one day) will encompass other factions besides Rebs and Imps.
2. we're assuming changing the way factions behave is "little and simple," and that may not be the case. it may be really hard, there may be tons of programming, balancing, testing required and they just dont have time for it right now.
they have to jump start the GCW, for the sake of the players they just have too. the majority of people are already factioned and this change immedietly addresses the concerns of the majority. the neutrals aren't getting screwed, there's just nothing more for them -right now-. that will change given time. no segment of the population can be ignored forever (except smugglers and squad leaders
). the nuetrals will have there day. this change is just about getting things happening on the GCW front.
and yes..i know it's a very optimistic point of view. but i don't think unrealistic.
As I understand it police factions will focus thier attention on emenys of the state, in other words he who controls the planet controls the police. Now with that said the enemy of the state will be attacked on site while the civilians will be fined for infractions against the ruling party. Look at this logically no occupation force would start killing the people they are trying to win over it just does not make any sense.

Kinda along these lines I had a question (sorry - minor hijack) If a neutral player flies for the Empire, for scanning purposes they'd be considered an Imperial on the ground right (?) So, if that's the case - If a neutral player joins JTL and flies for Corsec, and the Empire controls Corellia, would the player be considered Imperial on the ground? What would happen if Corellia switched to the Rebellion - would that neutral player then be considered a rebel on the ground? - no sadly space and planet sidedont mix, kinda like pig and elephant DNA.
Also - if some cities never change alligence, Coronet, which is controlled by Corsec - and the Empire rules Corellia, does this mean that Corsec in the rebel city becomes more aligned with the Imperials, or do they change at all? So Corsec in every city but Corellia become the Empire's lackeys? -/shrug this is like the train leaves the station at X miles an hour question...now my brain hurts.

Waitaminute! I get it now (I think).
You want there to be a Neutral faction that can attack and be attacked by everyone, right?
I mean, right now there is nothing stopping you from attacking any NPC. No matter what faction it is (am I wrong here?). And they will attack you if you break the law or have bad faction with them or good faction with their enemies- so...
If we had a Neutral faction (for players) that could take on anyone at anytime the GCW would be dead and this would not be Star Wars but something other set in a SW realm.
Nope. What I'm saying is that police factions should act like police factions. If they're going to attack when somebody fails a contraband scan, they need to attack everybody. They're being recognised as criminals and faction should not come into play except maybe when they're letting people off the hook since the police would then have to answer to the people occupying their system.
Now I know the argument that they shouldn't just start shooting people for it. I think they should, but in response to that argument, why not have them lose a lot of faction with that police unit so that they will eventually become criminals and attacked by that faction.
Really folks, what I'm saying has nothing to do with attacking or being attacked by Imperials or Rebels, however fun or logicial it can be. ![]()

wait..i think i get it. Coronet will ALWAYS have Rebels and Corsecs in it. If the whole planet goes Imp, the rebs can at least find refuge in Coronet. In JTL, CorSecs are true neutrals, so their allegiance probably waivers. On Naboo, the RSF will never be in a Rebel controlled city.
and the train reaches Denver at 8:45

This is a jump start for people and nothing more.

Actually he raises a slightly good point because they have stated that if you are a neutral/Rebel pilot, you will be rebel and vice versa for the Imperial aspect. Not sure what it means for the sides the neutral pilot factions are alligned to. - yep im stumped on that as well, Im a rebel on the ground (hardcore Im sure you figured that out, lol) but neutral in space I have no idea what my place will be in the GCW when I'm in space after my grind is over (4 3 3 3 atm).
On that note, the only true neutral now becomes neutral/SA pilot since the missions for SA have you work for both sides. - this is very true

now i'm confused. looking at the corvette missions, one assumes CorSec is the true neutral and SA is a the slightly Rebel affiliated one.
see? this is why ya should pick sides!! being neutral hurts peoples brains!!

SotakeTHATCartman <eagerly mixing Elephant and Pig DNA>
A "slightly" good point. Damnone day (it's my dream, it's my goal) one day I'm going to make a good point WITHOUT a qualifier such as "slightly" in front of it!!

I'm not talking about the occupying force, I'm talking about the police force. (I know you mentioned Iraq above, but I'm not getting into that can of worms. I happen to know a lot about that place, and to be honest these changes do not reflect it quite like you think.) I have no problem with factions staying within factions, I'm talking about the fact that police factions are now being included. They should be policing. They should be treating criminals as crimnals. They are their enemies. They should be giving the free pass to the occupying force. They are the ones who would come down on them if they treated their people like criminals.
They're being recognised as criminals and faction should not come into play except maybe when they're letting people off the hook since the police would then have to answer to the people occupying their system. - hence the fines
Everybody here knows the fines mean nothing. Nobody ever complained about fines. Nobody ever said they were oppressed by the fines. Where the complaints came from was being attacked because the were a member of an opposing faction when they failed a scan. That's why there's a mix for the Rebels and Imperials to have the same potential consequences. I'm just saying that now that they are involving police factions, treat criminals like criminals, not like faction members. You can still have the same effect while including neutrals in the mix, and probably even encourage crafters to join a faction so they can get a free pass on some planets.
why not have them lose a lot of faction with that police unit so that they will eventually become criminals and attacked by that faction. - its not a bad idea but I think someone mentioned in an earlier post these changes are for Rebel and Imp factions first and foremost, this is not the GCW re-vamp and more changes are ahead. We all know what jump starts lead to. Six months of wait for something to happen for the rest of you. If it was a jump start, they would be talking about expanding it next, not vendor changes. The GCW down the road means nothing as long as they maintain the tune of "pick a side". There's no comfort in knowing that there's a GCW revamp that will still happen down the road. If anything, it's all the more reason to include more people in these changes so they won't be ignored for so long. What do you think will happen if they put a bunch of changes for neutrals in a GCW revamp (not that it would happen)?
