Thread: Concerns about slicing.
You're just making rash assumptions. I'm a CL 80 that didn't "cave in" to anything. I happen to enjoy the two main professions that I have. The implication that my character is poorly developed or only exists for PvP (I don't PvP) is uncalled for since you don't know me either.
Nevermind. I'm not really grouchy. I just think that it is unnecessary to assume that because you've chosen to stop at CL 56 that you're somehow more "pure" than anyone who didn't.
Sorry for the flame earlier.
I understand what you're saying. I didn't express what I meant very clearly. It wasn't about what other players choose to do so much as that the cycle is perpetuated when they develop things in the game to be difficult based purely on the difficulty to live or die to get access to it centered on a combat level of 80which leaves those of us who only have master smuggler screwed to get stuff that only applies to the profession itself - I'd actually be combat level 55 if I didn't have TK novice, that bumps me to 56. It isn't true to the nature of a smuggler to rely on others so much as the way they've made chef, tailor, doctor and combat medic rely upon bio-engineers, for instance.
They put in more things centered solely on kill or be killed when you're a level 80 Jedi, and so on. It was the same before the CU - it's just that now we have a number label for it. If you Want to be a full combat character, that's great, but there are a Lot of people who have given up on being what they would really like to be because the system substitutes brawn for brains even when it calls for wit rather than strength. That's not even getting into the issue that Jedi should be glass cannons instead of a supernatural uber tank.
Smuggler is so ripe for bucking this system by putting content into the implementation of the system rather than relying on it being hard to get because you usually die trying to get the objects you're after. Being a smuggler is about wits and charisma, not brute strength. I realize it takes more developer time and effort to put things in a meaningful way, but it's a lot more worthwhile in the long run because people will find it more appealing to keep playing when there is more Star Wars and more Han and Lando and even the EU and games smugglers to the game.
I hope this explains what I meant better.
Yeah... slicing is totally busted now.
Tell ya what... as a favor to everyone who isn't going to bother slicing ever again b/c it is so broken, just send everyone who asks you about slicing to talk to me. I'll take it from there. ![]()

ROFL.
I'll take the Corbantis/Starsider inquiries.

well i never sliced for other people that often to begin with.
now when i do slice, it'll just be a disgruntled slice.
GM; "The breakage system was too harsh a penalty."
Yeah, too harsh for the rest of the player base. Plan B was to only make it hard on Smugglers.

I don't see this nerfing anything, and anyone complaining about slices being worthless since CU is missing the point. CU was necessary for balance, now they are trying to tweek the balance on a few things that got over corrected, don't whine because they are trying to fix it!
Lets grab that idea about stripping good parts from otherwise broken items and use it! We have hundreds of items that a junk dealer will buy, PLEASE make a smuggler (and even a weaponsmith/ armorsmith) able to extract a useable item for slicing out of a small and random percentage of these. Tougher mobs can have the high level armor and weapons on them (or in their bellies) that can be stripped for parts, but again make it random, not all loot turns up a useable part, and the loot doesn't all come from one source.
When we finally get to smuggle, these parts need to be able to be 'skimmed' off the merchandise.
