While I agree with the sentiment, it really is an integral part of this discussion. We have to ensure that both PvE and PvP encounters are discussed and refined, or we'll be back at square one with the entire misconception of "forced pvp" (and yes, I truly despise that phrase).
Ryutek wrote:A couple of things to consider first Ternque, after you choose which style you prefer, PvP or PvE, how would the NPC BH appear? Would it be instantaneous (killing immersion about as much as having a box pop up, but I haven't come up with an idea on how to rework that one yet) or would it place your name on a NPC BH Terminal so to speak? (Just meaning that within the next few days of game time you are probably going to be found by a BH?)
Forget the box. Make it a flag on the character like Covert/Overt which can be changed like Covert/Overt. The NPC Bounty Hunter could drop in a ship like the stormtroopers do in the wilderness after a random amount of actual online time. You either get killed or defeat the BH, otherwise he keeps showing up at random intervals.

I've done that most of the day, I'm taking a break now from that. However I don't like the idea of a window. It would really break the immersion factor and it also lets them know the moment they are on the terminals.
I like being surprised.

Well Caylin, if a player wants to really really mess up with the law and have a PvE bounty hunter sent after them.. well that is an option we can look into, but this PvE BH better be tough and pop outta nowhere just like a real onePvE BH's should be comparable to player ones in terms of difficulty. If you're at the top end of the criminal spectrum, where the hell are our harsh punishments for breaking the law if these PvE BH's aren't tough?
OHHHHHH I've got the greatest idea now!!!!! How about a message screen... this screen would pop up when your visibility reaches the BH level. This screen would say.
"You are now visible enough a criminal to warrant a bounty on your head. Select PvE or PvP below"
Problem solved for this whole discussion.... people don't want PvP.. fine. People who do... more content.
End of story, i suggest we propose this idea or something as effective to GM
Now That is an interesting Idea that I would support..
Naturally I would choose the PvP everytime.. because chances are the PC BH will never find me.. and the NPC will probly have a 100% chance of popping out of no where one day..
On Playstyles.. I must apologise to the PvE crowd for my inability to understand why you have PvP so much. I play MMOs because single players games are too easy to defeat. The aspect of needing to outsmart and defeat a breathing, thinking person is what makes MMOs fun to me.
I do respect your playstyle though I cannot understand the reasoning for it, so I will support Ideas like ternques where people get a clear-cut option. At the same time please respect MY playstyle, because if I cannot interact with my fellow players on every level I can, social, combat, and any other,I may as well be playing my single player games.

Also I am truly sorry if anyone took offence when I've called you 'care-bears' was not really intended to cause offence, Would you perhaps prefer 'Liberals'?

I agree, the PvE/PvP discussion is clearly making little headway as it just is a poor comparison of our individual playstyles. Focus at this time needs to be discussing solutions to a problem that cleary exists.

This thread is huge! I'm working through reading all of this and I'm writing down notes. It will probably not be until Friday before I can post some responses (mainly because I'm fairly busy today and tonight).

That's what we're doing. I'm just tired of reading "Why don't you agree with me! Your reasons for not agreeing with me are asinine!"
Instead, we can work on a solution that will please everyone and that process doesn't need to discuss the merits of PvP vs PvE.
