Thread: A possible balanced option for FD

Leave FD where it is, make it work everytime, make FD break combat, but add a mod scattered through the Smuggler profession tree that enhances the Smugglers ability to escape from feigning death.

A Bounty Hunter and a Smuggler are fighting. The Smuggler doesn't like how it's going, so he tries to see if FD will get the Bounty Hunter to leave him alone. Now the Smuggler is lying, unmoving on the ground, this is all that is needed for the Bounty Hunter to attempt a /deathblow. Here's where the skill mod comes into play. While the mod is low, the Smuggler moves too slowly to escape its fall, and dies. As the mod increases, so do the Smuggler's chances of avoiding the deathblow at the last instant, and combat resumes. Perhaps at Master Smuggler, even add a new attack that can only be performed from FD for large amounts of damage due to the opponent not expecting the battle to resume.

This would of course be the scenario between anyone fighting a smuggler, not just a Smuggler and Bounty Hunter. This makes battle behave much the same way as normal, dabblers do not gain the same benefit as Master Smugglers, and due to the fact you still risk dying while under the effects of FD it adds a bit of strategy to the skill.

bah, humbug.

Put it in the Master's box and to hell with everyone else. Simple, effective and has no complications.

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Two years of "Soon"(TM), a harsh bunch of lies.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie"

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Dancers can't smuggle and neither can I.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Why are there Jedi, I don't know why.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Novice Medic should get the skill as well..with a 100% chance at master medic...after all.....they should be able to read your pulse! make it apart of the /diag command...hmmm..wounds..... BF..ohh and still alive!

The only "fix" FD needs is the % chance of success needs to reflect the way it works in PVE.....in other words...0010 needs to fail most of the time...0040 needs to fail 20% of the time, and master should never fail....even in PVP. Then there is no need for changing BH and jedi...and....Medic.

Your post has alot of holes. How are biosignature sensors fooled by someone giving an act of playing dead? They are not.

With the right eqipment any device can be fooled

Furthermore, blackbarring is a mechanic of the broken nature of Feign Death, NOT a maniacal BH mutilating the carcass after his machinery tells him the mark is dead.

Yes hence Yimaz post makes perfectly sense and is a excellent suggestion how fd should work

Bounty Hunters WILL make sure their mark is dead and bring in some form of evidence showing so. You didn't think they would get paid without such evidence? This evidence could be a head, body, or maybe the next day's headline "Senator X gets killed".

Well the game mechanics dont allow the removal of the head or body part, a electronic device checking the status of the victim and sending the data to the employer makes more sense

In short, biosig sensors ARE NOT fooled by FD. Furthermore, BH's can check a pulse or put two in the head and two in the chest just to be sure. That is how it's done bro. This talk of unlawfully making sure a mark is dead and fooled biosig sensors doesn't make much sense.

I dont know, i dont own a biosig sensor....

Why doesent it makes sense? Its a skill that fakes the smugglers death, if its done by stopping the heart by sheer force of will or using devices to fool the attacker I really don't know. But its there, and as so many complains about it, suggestions like Yimaz is very good

It is a BH's job to ensure a mark is dead and to check for many common tricks, like playing dead, that undermine him/her collecting their credits.

And im pointing to Yimaz post once again, this makes sense, a crappy BH should be fooled by a good smuggler, and the other way around.

I suggest that FD be completely removed from anyone in a player bounty fight and left alone otherwise. Problem solved.

Ah, im guessing you are a BH, well Im a smuggler, and I like my profession, this post contains a good suggestion how to improve a skill.
Well remove player bountys, problem solved.

Listen Marvin5, I know you really believe what you are telling me. You will never believe that "playing dead" right at the feet of an assassin is the most obtuse statement one can make.

I know you are pushing for the preservation of FD and are a ardent smuggler yourself, but I've been on the smuggler boards for a long, long time making sure that good decisions were made about the profession. Examine my posting history if you want some proof.

I see your point of view Marvin in that smugglers do need a viable way to avoid the collection of their bounties, but smugglers do NOT do yoga. The skill description of Feign Death reads like, "a smuggler with this skill can give a Shakespearian performance of dying to the point that their attacker is fooled!". Where do you see yoga, or trance, or even disruption of scanning equipment nearby??? You don't, and that is my point.

You know what, it is even possible for a smuggler to fool equipment and fool an attacker at the same time. Entirely possible. But you are going to run into ONE HUGE PROBLEM. What is the point of a BH spending 20-60 minutes in preparration time and stalking only to meet his mark and have it drop dead, unattackable at his/her feet? What is the point? I tell you what. Tell me how you would feel.

I think you would be somewhere between discouraged and piping angry. You would feel robbed. You must understand: player bounties aren't supposed to end like that, but there is a better solution.

Implement a skill that instead allows evasion in more of a player skill based way. Allow smugglers to pull speeders/bikes during combat. If you successfully get away from a BH because of this, the BH won't feel robbed. Perhaps allow a smuggler an attack that immobilizes or slows down an enemy. Give smugglers a skill that will put an intimidate, stun, and blind on a single target, like kicking dirt in their eyes. This will help increase their survivability significantly and buy time. Perhaps smugglers could get a special that increases secondary defensive modifiers by a certain amount - this skill would be only able to be used once every 3 hours and last 10 minutes.

My point is that such a anticlimactic ending that FDcreates in player bounties is completely lame. I'm talking Pee Wee Herman or Micheal Jackson lame. Lame.

Give BH's a fighting chance, but smugglers incredibly powerful evasive moves. This FD stuff in player bounty fights is the most ignorant thing I've heard of. Would you seriously play dead if someone busted in your house on a contract to kill you? Bounty Hunters are people who are specially trained to make sure you are dead and are familiar with tricks that people use to thwart them, I'm sure you wouldn't think playind dead would stop them. Hell, it would make it easier to do their job.

(Disclaimer: I'm not calling anyone who supports FD ignorant, just the idea that one can play dead in front of someone trained to ensure you are dead.)

Ok I give u 1 thing.

What is the point of a Smuggler had been nerfed and ignored sice Beta3 from SWG, and had absolument no bug fix at all!! even FD is buggy. What can a Smuggler do agains a BH, a Jedi or any other comabt Profession??!! the smuggler have 0% chance to survive, exept the FD (if it's working, 50% it do not Work, it takes tooo long to run or if u are running it dosen't work too)

And now tell me please how would u feel if u are Smuggler and had been a Smuggler since lunch, waiting and waiting for bug fix or a mystic revamp, and by the end u get nerfed again in 1 of your last skills after the slice??? what would u feel if FD is nerfed too and any other Combat Profession would kill u and u have 0% chance of survive?!!!

BHs and Jedi had enough attation from the devs, enough is enough, if they nerf also the FD, I will come from Germany to the state and kill ervery SOE worker

Okay man, point to me where I suggest a nerf to FD other than remove it from player bounties. I suggest that the skill remain as it is.

Second, I was a smuggler the very second I could afford a computer to play this game, somewhat over a year ago. Hell, I was on the SWG forums way back in May, 2001 before this game was even made. I was on the forums when we suggested that dancers get some innate defenses due to their dexterity, supported a miner profession, and made arguments against Ub3r loot being dropped in the game. Regardless of my current ingame profession, I am a smuggler. Please do not confuse me with some random bounty hunter that walks in here.

Third, I suggest quite a few other very nice skills which would allow a smuggler to gain the upper hand against a BH as far as evasion of them is concerned. Are smugglers currently weaker than BH's? Yes, on the whole. Look at all the moves I suggest that will help smugglers buy time, buy distance, and buy defense.

LOL, I think yimaz's idea is great as far as balancing the skill in player bounties, but don't you guys think it's a little lame to play a "play dead" game instead of blasting and running/driving your way out of a bounty fight???

Yeah, I'd prefer to fight, but there's times when all the fight in ya just isn't quite enough, or you happen to be in the middle of loading things into a factory, etcetera. I think the Hunting of Smugglers is a great idea and completely support it.

Plus, keep in mind, the way I mentioned to balance it would mean its virtually useless in PvP if you only have 0010, and even as a Master, you'd never be 100% certain it'd work. There's always the chance at any level you'd fumble the die roll and say "fall on a sharp rock and accidentily let out a howl of pain", meaning it didn't quite work out as expected. Wouldn't even need to be a Bounty Hunter or Jedi in that case. Just plug your target full of holes. Also, because a Smuggler gets the great roll and tricks his predator, its not gonna mean that the mission will leave the terminal. Only that the Hunter needs to go get the mission again.

Why should I? Its entirelly possible, you just have to be damn good at it.

I beleive you, but no good decision has been made about the profession...

Its in the posts right in this topic, read it all, many good suggestions. And the description of skills isnt accurate at all, read the description of stopping shot and you will see what i mean. Im just trying to come with suggestions how the skill should work

You know what, it is even possible for a smuggler to fool equipment and fool an attacker at the same time. Entirely possible. But you are going to run into ONE HUGE PROBLEM. So, what you are saying is that feign death should be removed just so the BH:s arent gonna be angry when he cant compleate his mission? And if you read the original post you should see that theres a good chance fora skilled BH to see through the feign death.

I think you would be somewhere between discouraged and piping angry. You would feel robbed. You must understand: player bounties aren't supposed to end like that, but there is a better solution.

Good suggestions, well see what the smuggler revamp has in its fold

My point is that such a anticlimactic ending that FDcreates in player bounties is completely lame. I'm talking Pee Wee Herman or Micheal Jackson lame. Lame.

Every fight that a BH:s mark get away is lame, from a certain point of view

Still we are back in the same back alley... good BH will see through the feign, a crappy one wouldent.

(Disclaimer: I'm not calling anyone who supports FD ignorant, just the idea that one can play dead in front of someone trained to ensure you are dead.)

Do BH train in figuring out if people are dead? I just thought they where experts in tracking down people and superior weapon usage?
