Thread: A possible balanced option for FD

(Disclaimer: I'm not calling anyone who supports FD ignorant, just the idea that one can play dead in front of someone trained to ensure you are dead.)

Im sorry if you take it that way, it was not my intent, my apologies.
I have a list of things I challenge you to answer for me.
- How do you account for BH's bringing in evidence of their kill to their employer? This could include the corpse or the head.
Or using a bio scanner that confirms the kill and automaticly sends a message to the employer
- How is a bounty fight that is instantly ended in a draw, even with skill-based modifiers for success and detection, fun? It is an instant draw, with no exciting or climactic ending. The other skills I suggest promote more player-controlled and exciting ways to escape.
Agreed, but doing such thing with fd is hard, its a gamble for the smuggler to press the FD button aswell, as if the BH is a good one he will laugh and probably kill the smuggler who is lying down trying to pretend to be dead, hence the skill modefiers in the original post.
I am totally with you that we need newer or better skills, but this post is about fixing fd to properly work.
- How does entering a "death trance" fit anywhere near the description of a smuggler? We are NOT yoga masters. Life signs are detectable by biosignature droids, a tool that a BH uses at all times, not to mention detectable by checking a pulse. Two year olds can check a pulse.
Pretending to be dead might not be the most fitting skill for a smuggler, but we fight dirty and faign our own death just to get away is quite useful, there are skills that are even less fitting, like crafting spice and selling factionpoints.... we are not druglords or diplomats, we leave that to the hutts.
But droids can be fooled by electronic devices, even pulse can be faked by modern technology, the act of dying can be faked. "He couldent have survived a fall like that" is something bad guys falls for every time
- Playing dead is the "oldest trick in the book". BH's might come across this all of the time. How do you account for the fact that trained assassins always go the extra step to ensure their quarry is dead? This includes putting two in the head and two in the chest.
As i wrote a couple of times before, the skillmods reflects how skilled a BH is comparing to the skills of a smuggler in seeing through the fd act. Hence, a crappy BH will be fooled, and a good one will not.
Do not attack my credibility. I have read the orginal and most other posts in this thread, if not all. Do not attack my history nor the efforts I make to better this profession. Furthermore, do not warp what I am trying to communicate. What I post here is done for our benefit, andI do not intend for it to be taken any other way.
Im sorry if I have offended you in any way, it was not my intention to do so.

Plus, keep in mind, the way I mentioned to balance it would mean its virtually useless in PvP if you only have 0010, and even as a Master, you'd never be 100% certain it'd work. There's always the chance at any level you'd fumble the die roll and say "fall on a sharp rock and accidentily let out a howl of pain", meaning it didn't quite work out as expected. Wouldn't even need to be a Bounty Hunter or Jedi in that case. Just plug your target full of holes. Also, because a Smuggler gets the great roll and tricks his predator, its not gonna mean that the mission will leave the terminal. Only that the Hunter needs to go get the mission again.

Great stuff! This is the way it should work, it must be a gamble to use the skill, as at the time you push the button you probably know you are gonna die anyways, so why not risk it.
Wow! Exactly. This is the perfect time to use FD! If only FD were so risky to use that it would TRULY be seen as a last ditch attempt to save your skin. The odds of it succeeding must be so low in bounty fights that it won't be your first move, it won't even be the move after that, it will be the very very very very last thing you dare doing - much like going to see the Olsen twin movie because you are lonely...

I think its a good idea! But I dont really like the "using mental control to appear dead" I have some better ideas
Ok, some peice of fiction to clarify whats this all about...
Scenario 1 - Master smuggler vs Not so good BH
The bountyhunter squeezed the trigger and the running smuggler spun, landing hard on the soft grass plain of naboo, the bountyhunter smiled under hishelmet and holstered his Elite carbine. Will they never learn its useless to run, he thought while walking to the corpse, the man lay on his stomache with a small trail of smoke coming fromunderneath his body. The bountyhunter pulled his bio signature reader from his belt and checked the bio reading, this was his mark allright, wanted for doing businesswith the valarians. Jabba dident want his employees to double cross him, and this was the payment he deserved. He swept the bio reader over the body, dead as a fish, the reader transmitted the signal to his employer and the transaction went through. 50.000 creds for this guy, an easy mark, The bounty hunter walked back to his speeder, he hoped thatTheed cantina still was open this late, now he finally had the cash to pay for that bar tab.
As the speeder dissapeared towards Kadaara, the smuggler slowly rose, he groaned and touched his sore chest, the force had been absorbed by his genoshian blast vest, but not all, still it was better than being dead. He picked up his bio scrambler, he made it himself a few days ago, one of his favourite tricks, now he was officially dead for a few days, might aswell enjoy himself til Jabba sends one more of his goons out.
Scenario 2 - Not so good smuggler vs Master BH
The suns of Tatooine beamed down on the scene of two men. The shot hit the smuggler straight in the face, punching a hole inhis ubease helmet, he jolted backwards landing on a dune on his back. The bountyhunter lowered his scatterpistol, the smugglers shots had bounced off his composite armour, will they never learn that the DL 44 looks better than it behaves. He holstered and secured the gun, slowly walking against the dead smuggler, that will teach him not to push drugs on the valarians turf. He picked up his bio scanner and checked the signature, it was him allright, and dead too. The bountyhunter pressed a few buttons to widen the bio readings, better safe than sorry and this was a trick he had picked up from his old teacher. The bio reader returned the results, the bountyhunter smiled.
-You can disable that holo projector now, else im gonna check your life signs with my vibroblade
The image of the smuggler faded, the holo projector had been good, but not good enough to fool the bountyhunter.
- Now I have a bounty on you for 50.000 credits, should i cash that sum from the valarians, or from you and let you live?
The smuggler stood up, compleately unharmed, he pulled out the box containing his credits.
- 40.000 is all i got, the smuggler replyed.
The bountyhunter knew it was a lie.
- Not good enough, he replied, opening fire with his Scatterpistol, riddling the smuggler with holes.
The bountyhunter sighed, you cant try fool me twice he thought, never mess with a pro.
Good reading and a good description of what you are describing to me. Shame the DL-44 is a pile of crap.

Interesting. So, a Bounty Hunter tracks down the Smuggler through 5 planets, a fight finally ensues, the Smuggler feigns death successfully, the Bounty Hunter's mission is cleared and the TEF is gone. After 10 seconds the Smuggler gets up, and the BH can't do anything to him anymore because he has to go to a mission terminal on another planet, so they just go for a drink in a cantina. Couldn't be more realistic, eh?

Yes, I see the bad parts about it too. I never said it was perfect. More of a rough design.
