ahhh /evilgrin. we'll just have to be more careful who we trust, won't we?

things of that nature could bump up the market cost of slicing.

This situation would be cool as hell. It would be interesting to see smugglers only slice while fully fed, armored, and armed

Above all else, I hope the devs take from this thread that we want a system of player bounties complete with a clear option to allow PvP and with equal rewards for those who choose the player BH or the tough NPC to come after them.

If SOE wants to protect their customers from griefing and the rigors of PvP, then please just put in an option to have this strong NPC BH or a PC one come get the smuggler. This would be ten times less lame than deleting PC BH's entirely... oh... make that 1000 times. Make the NPC/PC option a switch in "Options". Sure it is unimmersive, but the player only has to make the decision once, then they get to enjoy the game at the level they enjoy playing it on.

Wow! I just happen to cruise over here to see what kind of updates you guys were getting after the CU and I see this! As a BH I'm pretty shocked. Honestly, I had no idea that you guys actually wanted to be hunted. When I noticed that they were not implementing smuggler bounties for us BHs, I just kind of figured it was because you guys raised hell about it.

I stand totally corrected. I think it's great that you guys support the idea of player bounties. Personally, I'd much rather chase guys like you around, who actually take pride in your profession, than run after 'flashlight freaks' who spend most of their time holed up in a guildhall grinding on their MBH alts.

Huge props to you guys for demanding this level of content.

or perhaps the smugglercould bring a few "friends" to watch their back. of course they'd have to bring the group-tef back, which would make sense in a post CU environment.

I think it should be made something like how their going to do with BH hunting jedi- the fight cannot be interfered with by anyone outside the contract.

From what I gather, this is to be the foundation upon which such a system (and I hope a Smuggling for players system) can be built off at a later date. I've been waiting for things to cool down (ie, post CU/RotW launch) to ascertain when such extra features might be added, as at the moment the devs are very busy indeed with both the CU and RotW and not likely to want to talk much about anything that's not "coming next".

I think we can all agree it is a bummer not being hunted by real Players but in the same respect I would rather they get our smuggling system right first and for most The inclusion of NPC bounty hunters give them a chance to develope the right system and add real players down the road, like with an underworld expansion.

I too am deeply upset at the lack of Smuggler bounties in this game... I have been a Master Smuggler since August 8, 2003 (and there werent too many before me, at least on my server... surely none that are still around). I have been patiently waiting for Smuggler revamp since it was originally promissed we would recieve attention in September 2003! And yes, I have my years straight... I believe that promise was from SOE's Green Marine (who was working on the Chef revamp at that time).

The other big thing is the lack of actual smuggling content. I propose that there be NPCs that act like smuggler mission terms, scattered here and there among the galaxy, and have their location change on a semi-regular basis... if these missions are aborted or failed, let there be a visability ranking granted. That way, Smugs that dont want visability, can play the game as it is today... and those that want a little more spice in their life (pardon the pun), can get some...

Another GREAT thing would be Underworld ranking... kind of like force ranking for smugglers... this could add to the reputaion of the smuggler and increase bounties... as well as other cool things possibly faction related that they could add at a later time.

that one on onesystem was only developed because of griefers, exploiters, and whiners. there must be abetterway to prevent people from griefing and exploiting.

because a group tef is a much more realisticand immersivesystem. if you're sitting there with your friends, and suddenly someone takes a shot at you, your friends should be able to help you out.

from what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong) the problem with the old Jedi/BH system was that many players would get invest 3 or 4 for the sole reason to grief Jedi players, or if not to grief then just to find some sure-fire PvP. the Jedi got tired of dying all the time so they began to surround themselves with body guards, taking advantage of the group tef system.

so nowthe same griefingplayers with invest 3 or4would go tohunt the Jedi and finally track them down, only to find they were grouped and surrounded by bodyguards. theygot tired of not being able to kill their mark and instead of forming their own Jedi-hunting posses, theybegan to complain.(also the whole unbalanced must-have-a-buff system onlymade things worse).

i don't see what the problem with hiring bodyguards is really. it's a valid form of protection.

i know ofsome BHs who truely act likehunters.they stalk their marks. learning their habits. when they are around, where they hang out, where theygrind, where theyget buffed, when they get buffed, when their buffs run out, when they're alone, when they're grouped,ect...

they learn all the behavioral patterns of their mark, and they strike when the mark is at its most vulnerable.

some may say that's griefing, that's exploiting. but is it? i think it's just adapting to the combat system we were playing in. it was virtually impossible to succeed when the Jedi was buffed, or grouped. so why not strike when they're vulnerable? as long as it's just the BH playing the game, playing as a BH would, it'snot an intended grief, then that's how the game should be played. one person loses, one person wins, but thankfully it's just a game and they both live to see the next day. and maybe encounter each other again, perhaps with different results the next time.

i understand that there's a big penalty when a Jedi gets killed by a BH. that's frustrating sure. but that's how the game is played. it's a good way to simulate the severe difficulty of training to become a Jedi, especially in this dark time when the Jedi are outlaws.

if the player playing the Jedi gets so upset that they feel the need to grief the BH personally, as in through hatetells in an out of game manner. then it's not the BH, but the Jedi who has the problem.

as for the Player Smuggler/BH system...

my concern is that if and when we do get Player BHs coming after us, and we use our newSmuggler abilities to either escape or avoid being tracked, will the BHs get frustrated andcry foul? i hope they won't. if the BHs can't seem to successfully hunt us when we have skills that make sense in the larger scheme of things, then they aren't very good BHs.

if we the Smugglers are getting killed too often. will many of us cry foul? i hope not. any Smuggler who falls victim to a trick, like sending us a tell asking for a slice, is not a very good Smuggler. (although some might claimsomething like that would bemeta-gaming, in otherwords using information or abilities outside of the game itself to gain knowledge or achieve a goal) it would be similar to a BH using /findfriend on a Jedi. although it's unethical because it uses an out of character part of the game mechanics, we should accept that it's part of the game and move on.

i hope that if/when a Player Smuggler/BH system does take effect that both sides see the goodness in it and neither of us cries foul, because it would ruin a good and challenging part of the game, just like the Jedi/BH systemwas ruined.

that's how i see it anyway. and this was not intended as a flame or rant against Jedi, BHs, PvPers, or any other type of gamer. just trying to forsee possible problems based on problems of the past. and hoping that we don't let history repeat itself.

Would an answer be to give us the ability to cancel the bounty, by paying the contractor what he'sowed?

ie Jabbahires is to smugglespiceto npc X. We fail the order, or drop off the order -10%, and Jabba may or may not put a bounty out on us. We are unaware of the bounty at his point, until a BH takes the mission. Then we're informed that there's a price on our heads. We then have to either fight the BH, with the death of either of us ending the mission, or get to Jabba to pay him off. Paying him off cancels the mission, and the BH is told that the debt is cancelled, and the mission is over, with the BH receieving a nice payment from Jabba for the trouble caused.

Gutting for the BH, but it would allow us to escape or fight.

Of course it relies on the amount needed to pay off the mission being realistic. A few thousand credits isn't enough, we need to be talking hundreds of k or 10% of our total bank balance.

that's a pretty damn good idea.

it's realistic, immersive, and opens up more options/decisions within the game.

i think that we should be able to pay off the debt to cancel the bounty, but it would not count as much as if we did a string of successful jobs for the employer (thus getting rid of deadbeat points), because we'd still be considered untrustworthy and the only reason the employer would cancel the bounty was cause they got their credits back.

so paying off the debt would only be able to take as many deadbeat points off as were neccessary to cancel the bounty. but it could never fully erase our deadbeat points.

in other words it would leaveus one deadbeat point away from another bounty on our head.

(by the way this is such a good idea i'm gonna copy/paste it to the Smuggler revamp thread on the In Concept forum if you don't mind CPZ)

Hmm...maybe they could implement a system where if a smuggleris insomeplace like a cantina, then he can see if the person is a bounty hunter? So if someone wanted something sliced, the smuggler might tell that person to meet him in the cantina, and as the person approaches the cantina while the smuggler is inside, the smuggler will see a red dot on his radar, alerting him that that's the bounty hunter

If the smuggler is sitting inside the cantina, and a bounty hunter walks in, the smuggler could either stay and fight, or try to get away by making a mad dash to the Starport ( unless he happens to be in Wayfar )
