I stand totally corrected. I think it's great that you guys support the idea of player bounties. Personally, I'd much rather chase guys like you around, who actually take pride in your profession, than run after 'flashlight freaks' who spend most of their time holed up in a guildhall grinding on their MBH alts.

lol.

To the BHs out there, a ton of us really, really want the chance to be hunted. Right now we just don't feel like smugglers, and while some of the proposed revamp content will help in that department, none of it can compare to the experience we'd have with player-to-player smuggling or PC bounties. Thus, for many of us, this is one of our highest priorities.

However, there is a significant part of the community that has no interest in PC bounties at all and is very disinterested in PVP, particularly of the forced variety. I think this is well within their rights and needs to be accounted for in any bounty system. Opt-in PVP seems to be favored by the devs as well these days (presumably for the same reason; you've got to respect peoples' wants in this department). So if you want to help us make this a reality, I'd suggest you start kicking around ideas as to how to create such a system. We've got a number of ideas as to how to make it happen, but we could definitely use your viewpoint on this whole thing.

Also, I'd hope you all understand that we're not Jedi, we can't fight like them, we don't need our population controlled, and it isn't an accepted fact of the Smuggler that we'll end up on the terms some day if we're not careful. Those smugglers who did end up on the terms would, I think, have had to make a conscious decision to act in such a way that they knew could get a bounty on them. (Be that by choosing a PC bounty-enabled mission, stealing spice when they've already got 4 deadbeat points, whatever.) But there would be some smugglers who would never get on the terms and would have the choice to never run the risk of doing so.

If all that's cool with the BHs--or at least most of you--I think we can come up with something pretty great. We're not all going to jump at the chance to get on the terms, though, and I think that's the critical issue to work around when we're trying to put together a system that's both fun and fair for everyone involved.

I also want player bounties, but I want it done right. Unlike Jedi, we're not meant to be "more powerful" than a BH (it seems to me like the Jedi's power level is meant to be a counter toa hunter's advantage of surprise), so there's a question of balance involved so that we actually have a chance to fight back or even evade. Cat-and-mouse games, speeder chases,or face-to-face battles would be a lot of fun, but not being ganked in 2 seconds flat. There's also the question of if and how evading attack (rather than just standing and fighting against a profession that's meant to be a "one-on-one combat specialist") could end a bounty mission.

Yes, I've been thinking of this as well. Evasion tactics have always felt very smugglerish to me. Shoot 'em where it hurts and leg it!

What I came up with off the top of my head was that if you manage to escape and get off planet, that particular BH couldn't hunt you for a few hours, or perhaps even a day. This could make for some hairy chases to starports and docking bays with accompanying shouts of "get to the ship!" and "the rubber chicken makes my legs itch!".

Should you actually be able to end a bounty missionby evasionthough? It wouldn't be very realistic ("Gosh darnit that's a quick rascal. Well, I guess he deserves his freedom" doesn't sound very bounty hunterish to me), but on the other hand it would be more fun than just waiting to get killed. If there's no otherway to get rid of a bounty situations may arisewhere the smuggler simply gives himself up to get it over with. Of course the chase itself is what we're after here, but still, wouldn't it be more exciting (for the BH as well, mind you) to know that if you're good enough you could actually get off for good? Maybe you can ditch a particular BH permanently if you manage to avoid her a certain number of times. That way you'd have to constantly evade bounty hunters until your bounty expired. The odds would be low, but well... never tell me the odds!

Well, that's just what popped into my head when I read this thread.

Ok... we can't all agree.... that just wouldn't be right.

Let me say that I like the concept of player bounties, but I certainly don't want them to impliment them right now -- or even immediately after the CU. Why? Well, just look at how well the whole BH v. Jedi thing is working out. It is a disaster with each side racing to find loop-holes and the other side racing to the Devs to complain about it.

There's no way that one can look at the current state of the game and believe that SOE doesn't need to basically start over when programming PvP in this game. I don't think that they're idiots -- I just think that making a fair and balanced PvP system isn't easy and it is obviously something they're struggling with.

I think the only thing worse than not having player bounties for smugglers would be having a player bounty system that blows.

I think we all agree that 90% of us want the opportunity for player BHs to hunt player Smugglers. The other 10% probably would not object provide they were never "forced" into PvP which is, let's face it, not too hard to manage.

The real biggie as i see it is the implications of player BH missions on smugglers.

The simple cop-out way is just to have us pop up on the terms.

The engaging, fun, player based way is a lot more complex.

First, contraband must actually be both valuable and very dangerous to carry around. Second, players must have some way of safely hiring a smuggler to move/acquire their contraband for them. Thirdly, players must be able to place bounties without the possibility of griefing. Yep, you read that right - it's not real until players are placing the bounties.

Finally, the smuggler needs a legal equivalent - the freighter. And that can't happen until cargos become too large for anyone to simply lug around in a backpack. "I have 100,000 units of lead in my pack with which i can run straight up a mountain as a Master Ranger" makes no sense. Freighting has its place and can be just as much fun and reward as any other space/ground occupation in this game.

I want to see legal freighters in space, piloted by players enjoying their chosen role as contract haulers. I want to see bantha trains across Tatooine and armoured trucks crawls over Lok driven by players for players. I want a realistic economy, and that begins with realistic loads and carriage costs.

Am i alone in that?

Now HONESTLY, do you really think ANY BH is going to model themselves after Greedo? Of the vast gallery of BH's to choose from, who's going towant to bethe guy that originally didn't even see his mark readying his gun, and then when viewed in instant replay, Fired First (tm) and totally missed, and got plugged.

From what I gather, this is to be the foundation upon which such a system (and I hope a Smuggling for players system) can be built off at a later date. I've been waiting for things to cool down (ie, post CU/RotW launch) to ascertain when such extra features might be added, as at the moment the devs are very busy indeed with both the CU and RotW and not likely to want to talk much about anything that's not "coming next".

Hey Wes, I bet things would get sped up if you merged resources withTanks and both the Smuggler and BH forums were rooting for it.

Ok just my 2 credits....

First- I love the idea's of Smuggler Misisons Etc. Wish they would have been done a LONG time ago... But at least we will be thought about soon.

Second- When it comes to getting on the terminals I am all for it. But And this is a shot in the dark....why couldnt a master smuggler have the chance to slice the BH terminal and pull his name off of it....or lower the payout of his BH mission.....

Third- I agree that we should be able to evade a BH and have his bounty fail....IE: "Jabba is displeased with you lack of effort you are no longer on this mission. He will send out a more capable Hunter in your place."

Then you get sent NPC hunters after you....

Be well all as I said just my 2 credits.

i agree so much with these ideas.

it would be VERY nice to have a player-made smuggling system, and a player-made bounty system working in the actual mechanics of the game. however, those two things would be very difficult to pull off it would seem. not because of coding or for lack of effort, but more because of the players, the ones who always find the loop-holes and exploit them until the game breaks.

as for transports and frieghters. YES!

i dunno why they never had things like that in the game to begin with. i think with time they'll add more multi-passenger ships to JTL (i think there's one new one with RotW).

but now that they've made it so more than one person can travel in the same vehicle in space, why can't they do the same on the ground? there needs to be more of a immersive feeling when it comes to vehicles.

while making things very convenient, storing and calling vehicles is such a silly idea. i wish they would firstfigure out a way to allow passengers in the exsisting 2 seater vehicles, and then create multi-passenger vehicles like sail barges, or sand skiffs, and maybe some assault type vehicles for transporting troops.

and they should reduce the amount of items we can carry around. *gasp!*i know they just increased our inventories, but to compensate the loss of inventory space they should add storage compartments to the vehicles.

saddle bags for the creature mounts and bikes. a "trunk" for the 2 seaters. and a cargo hold for the larger vehicles they've yet to create.

and we shouldn't be able to store our vehicles anywhere except in a PARKING GARAGE!!! haha it would make sense to pull into mos eisley and park (store) your bike in the garage, and walk to whereever you're going. parking garages should be like similar to starports for the ground game. you could have your swoop stored in Mos Eisley, your X34 stored in Bestine, and be riding your sand skiff around.

or you could just leave yourride outside the building you're going to. but that would mean it would decay.

parking a vehicle in a garage would automatically "refill the tank" or repair it. and we'd still be able to repair vehicles by just pulling up to the garage whenever we needed to.

actually as far as repairing goes, i think the decay rate of a vehicle should be slowed down tenfold, and instead add a "fuel" bar. we already have things like petro-chemicals and various energy types in the game. maybe artisans could craft a fuel-cell for vehicles? it would be very similar to droid batteries.

the only time a vehicle should be disabled would be in combat, and you may say "well what if my swoop gets destroyed?" and to that i say "well a swoop is a very delicate vehicle and shouldn't be taken into combat situations".if your swoop is destroyed, call a friend and have them pick you up. maybe next time you'll take your armored vehicle into the field. (of course to prevent downtime they would have to increase the speed of all vehicles a bit so that people don'tgetfrustratedthat they can't travel as fast as they used to in their swoop or AV-21)

does anyone else think this would make the game more immersive and fun?

ps - i'd also love to see some ground based flying vehicles (like snow speeders from the battle of Hoth, ect.) but that's a whole other topic.

Dude we're so into it. With mymain toon I would rather havemy own fightsoutside of GCW. Its more than justPVP because smug and BH would have to co-op sometimes.. or, work out some... misunderstandings. The problem right now is the contraband.. What is to happen to itif BH wins? If he gets to keep it then that could be exploited by the 2 combatants.

I'm gonna wait it out Tern.

I find it hard to believe that they will NEVER give us PvP smuggler bounties when it's such an obvious and easy way to give a sh!t load of content. And here is why:

  • Best not to rush in a system half assed (along with the CU/GCW/RotW and the non combat revamps)

  • It is going to be quite tricky to implement a system that cannot be exploited by either the Smuggler or the Bounty Hunter

  • I think that it will be added as a part of an Underworld Expansion

That said, I don't expect to see player to player bounties until about this time next year BUT I DO EXPECT TO SEE THEM.

Until then we should follow the suggestion made earlier and get Wes and Tanks together and seriously LOBBY for this to be added.
