10k is ludicrous... I'm going to get 1 starred, but let me explain. You can use grinding material to make it, so I think the total cost is somewhere around like 200 or less for a single slice. That's a profit of 9800. It takes you about 3 seconds to slice if you know how(blue wire trick) so it's not like what you are doing is hard... Meh, to each his own.

Yep, i agree 100%. Charge what you like but realize that the cost isn't about the resources, ulimately it's about the time you spend and the value you place on that.
I enjoy slicing and i try to make it enjoyable for the people i slice for but that doesn't mean i would do it for nothing or for less than i think it's worth. As a master smuggler i also try to push container opening to the people that need it, the non-master smugglers so i tend to charge more for that than most as well (min 2k / container). But it's supply and demand too, if i'm charging too much, i won't get business (not an issue yet) but if i charge too little, all i'll be doing is slicing and there are other things to do.
The main thing though is to have fun while you're doing whatever you're doing.

Still, you don't think a 9800 profit is a bit overboard? I mean are you REALLY spending that much time? I canunderstand for like orders of 200 or more, but still.

Think of it this way-
I am heading to dant, stop at in coronet get buffed, go wait in line for shuttle and get a tell.
Customer: "Hey slice a weapon for me"
Selusa: "Sure, where are you?"
Customer: "OMW to starport in coronet."
Selusa: "Ok, good, shuttles almost here, hurry."
Shuttle Lands
pause 60
Customer: "Almost there"
pause 60
Customer arrives.
Trade window- canceled 3 times because of faulty programming.
Shuttle takes off.
Selusa: "**edit**, shuttles gone. 25% speed."
Customer: "SPEED?!?!? I WANTED DAMAGE!"
Selusa: "10k please."
You have mail.
Trade window-
Customer leaves.
/target Ticket Collector
4 minutes till shuttle arrives.
CLASSIC CLASSIC scenario. I just waisted 10 minutes on this guy, 10k I can settle for, it covered my ticket cost to and from dant, or hell, it just covered my buffs.
In the amount of time I was waiting on my customer, I could have arrived on dant, gotten into a solo group, run 1 mission and made 50k.
I lost 50k waiting for him... but I earned 10k.
Earning small chump change like 1-5k is not worth my wait, and my hassle to assist my customers.

Ah nuts, I pressed the button too soon. What I was going to say is that i only seem to be approached for slicing JUST AFTER I'M DAMN WELL BUFFED. (sorry for outburst).
I give up on advertising. Being a Master Smuggler I don't need to spam, most just find me.
What they pay me for is my time to find my tools in my inventory, take abuse/tell hell from others asking for a 34% dmg slice hold the onions please, and constant whining for me to hurry up because they have X amount of hours left on thier Buff.
phew, gkad i got that out.

and when does a smuggler care more about the money his customers save over his own profits?
I'm a smuggler, I charge what I want because I want to, people pay what I charge because they want to. Thats life, thats economics, thats business.
And that, is how the cookie crumbles.

It's not overboard if people are willing to pay it.. Why do docs charge 10k+ for a buff? Is it actually because of the resources involved? No, it's because buffs have been seen as necessary and people are willing to pay. How about Musician buffs? I tend to tip around 7k each. They require no resources, just time. But they can buff multiple customers at once. We can't slice multiple objects at once.
And lets face is. 9800credit profit is chump change in the grand scheme of things. How much actual profit does a WS or AS make on their wares? Do they require good materials: yes. Do they spend time: yes. Until they start up their factory, run off 20 of the same item and make their investment back in the very first item they sell.

I was getting my Geo pistols sliced today by a smuggler when a noobie walked by and asked how much he charged for slicing. The smuggler replies, "3k for -20%, 5k for 20-30%, and 10k for +30%"
The noobie says, "I'll take the 10k one." We laughed, then explained how it worked and he ended up getting a freebie.
All my slices have been "Whatever you feel like donating" or based on percentage. I have never seen a flat 10k, but would not hesitate to pay that much if it was the standard rate. 10k may be high for a weapon that costs under 20k, but when you're spending hundreds of thousands on armor and weapons it's a small price to pay (just pray for damage on my pistols

Nothing is wrong with 10k.
-People can pay 500k+ for these items and 10k is nothing for a permenant increase.
-People pay 10k for 3 hours of doctor buffs and think 10k is wrong for permanent increase of weapons/armor.
-People can make hundred of thousands from 1 buff session that they are so willing to pay 10k for, 10 isn't that much.
I sliced some composite today, I dont advertise, he didn't ask price until after I already sliced it pretty nicely, he then commented that he payed almot 1/3 of the cost of the suit of armor. 1/3 of the cost of the armor for 1/3 increase sounds about right.
I sliced for a master doctor yesterday/swordsmen, first he says he wants a high damage, so I have to explain to him that I have no control over speed or damage, and it can be 15%-35% firstly, but then I slice his weapon(for pretty good damage) and tell him my price and he starts cussing like no tommorow. He starts saying it is crazy, so I ask him what he charges for buffs and he replies with 10k and thinks it is fair for him to charge 10k but not me, he says this in a main chat, someone asks for buffs, and he prompty tells them, yes, 12k for buffs.
I love people.

5k if they dont like it they can f themselves. I dont slice for $$ anyhow, 3 hours of meat grinding can earn me more than a week of slicing and dealing with people that want to haggle over something that small.
I mean honestly, if you slice someones wep forover 28% you should just charge them 100k or keep the weapon and sell it for 200k +.LOL.
Perhaps our biggest flaw/downfall is our nice guy mentality. Certainly we don't want to jack people, but i have definitely turned over some high dmg weapons which really anything over 28% dmg slice is monsterous since it is usually what people seek.
Make it 5k to gamble, and 100k to win
