That's the only book (Vector Prime) that I actually liked... when said event happens in the book, the way it was presented I was pretty much like, "Oh.. oh well... I'm over it already".

After all... Chewy was just like a tagalong dog in the books IMO...

And whoever pointed out the X-wing books earlier...Wraith Squadron > Rogue Squadron...but Starfigters of Adumar > All other EU books...

As far as books go, the Han Solo adventures by Brian Daley remain the best "EU" books out there, before there was ever an "EU". He's the only author to really capture the spirit and feel of SW in novel form, while the post-Zahn EU authors are really just copycats of the same banal style of writing endemic to modern genre fiction.

Before I start I want to say something. I'm 6'4" and weigh just over 200 lbs. I'm not bragging and I'm not saying that I'm the baddest guy around, but you can certainly say that I'm a big man.

When I read Vector Prime and Star by Star, I was a big man who was crying like a small child.

WARNING!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T READ VECTOR PRIME I'M GOING TO ELABORATE ON SOMEONE ELSE'S SPOILER:
For the guy who made the comment about Chewie being a "furry tagalong" let me say this: If you read certain books in the EU, you sort of gain a really great appreciation for Chewbacca. In the second and third books of the Han Solo Trilogy (the one by A.C. Crispin, not The Adventures of Han Solo) you see a lot of dialogue between Han and Chewie and you see a lot of Chewie's character. Chewie was hands down the most honorable of any of the characters in the Star Wars saga, that includes the Jedi. Because he believed in the Wookie custom of swearing a life debt to anyone who saved his life, he spent decades looking after Han Solo and his family while he went for years at a time without seeing his own wife and son. And he was definitely Han's conscience... he hated doing anything dishonest (except when it hurt the Empire, but those bastards had enslaved him.) He was an all around great guy and showed himself to be a hero in battles inside and outside of the Rebellion. And in the end, when he willingly put his life on the line one last time, it wasn't to save the galaxy.. lots of people died trying to save the galaxy (like all the rebel pilots who didn't survive the attack on the Death Star). Saving the galaxy is one thing, it's unquestionable that one life is worth the lives of millions. But Chewie died not to save millions.. he died to save one. He died to save Han's youngest son. By extension, he did save the few hundred passengers who were on the Falcon at the time, because there was no way in hell that Han was leaving without Anakin, but I don't think that was a huge part of the equation. Chewie would have given his life for any of the kids, Han, Leia, Luke, or Mara at any time. That's why Chewie's death was so forceful... that and the setting couldn't have been more dramatic.

As for the death in Star by Star... no one else has leaked on that so I won't completely spoil it. I will say this however for those who have already read it. So to warn any who have not read Star by Star DO NOT READ THE REST OF THIS POST IF YOU DON'T WANT EVEN A PARTIAL SPOILER AS TO WHO BITES IT!!!!!!!!!

And with that out of the way; that, my friends, is the only "scene" in any SW book that ever stood a chance at being as dramatic as Chewie's death. Poisoned, bleeding internally, and still strong enough in the Force that he was glowing gold! In that one scene you see why so many said he was so great... and then he was gone.

I haven't read the "Adventures" Trilogy but I'd recommend the Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispin to any and all smugglers... it provides several great examples of what being a smuggler in SWG should be about.

I totally agree, Wraith Squadren were hard core bad asses.

The only novels I've read with Wraith Squadron in them are Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand, both in the NJO series. After reading those two books, Kell and Face made it to the top of my list of characters I'd like to see more of... but you can't help but like a special forces unit that calls each other names like "Poster Boy", "Explosion Boy", "Science Boy", and "Computer Girl" (Not sure if they did this in other novels but I laughed my butt off at their exchanges in Rebel Stand.)

Heh...I'm 6'5" and about 180...and I actually had to get up and walk across the room to pick my copy of SbS up off the floor from where I chunked it against the wall. Luckily, it was a sturdy wall...cus that's a thick book...

Anyway...on Chewie...yeah, he was honorable, and he died well. But, it was definitely time for him to go. His role had pretty much been relegated to "Chewie, can you watch the kids for a while?", or "Chewie, take the kids to XXXX.", or "CHEWIE, SAVE THE KIDS!!". He was just a static character that they moved from scene to scene with no room for growth. He had long outlived his usefulness. But, I have to say, anything less than dropping a moon on him would've been a serious let down. He deserved to go out BIG.
