Thread: So, to fix slicing exploits, what would you suggest?

It's 6am in the morning and I haven't been to bed yet, so call me crazy if you must, but I got to thinking... what if they made it a fair play?
Sure, you can add a powerup during the slice, but you're playing with fire... you could A.) Get a really, really good slice B.) Fail the slice, and that weapon cannot be attempted to be slicedagain, orC.) Blow yourself and the weapon up, incapacitating/killing/TEFing you and destroying the weapon, a sort of critical failure so to speak.
Maybe it's the Glitterstim and Vasarian Brandy talking, I dunno...
I put somemore thought into this, perhaps failing one of these slices could also add to our visibility. I dunno, I'm just kicking this around really. I've never done a power-up slice, nor do I intend to, unless the Devs decide it's a fair play, which I seriously doubt. Anyway, they could just remove the Power-up before the second wire is cut, seems logical.

I'd like to change what I said about my idea of the weapon breaking.
No, I'm not saying don't break the weapon, I still want it to break if people try to Multislice.
Just, if/when they do this, don't let the players know, so that when they try to exploit on thier Legendary Geonosian Sonic Blaster, it breaks. >:-)
I may be bad, but I feel so good!

Currently the PUP is only removed upon cutting the first wire. Iknow because I did it for a while before I found out it was an exploit. Anyway back to my point instead of the pup falling off after the first cut the devs need to make it fall off after the second then calculate the damage total. This shouldn't be too hard no huge database change just an adjustment ot timing.
Actually...the P-up is removed from the weapon as soon as the "Slice" option is selected...before a clamp is applied, before the first wire is cut...
Just move whatever process removes the P-up from "After "Slice" is selected" to "After wire-2 is cut."....problem solved...

I think the devs should just sit down and make the system smart enough to just ignore a power-up. I mean how hard is that? The examination screen itself tells you if a power-up is applied and exactly what the change to the weapons stats it causes. If a power-up is there the system should just subtract those values before doing the slice calculation. Exploits are a frustrating thing to the upstanding citizen but in reality they are a result of bugs and/or poor design. In this case its a factor of the slicing system just not doing the math right. They should be able to fix it behind the scenes and not have it affect the rest of us.

Or just say screw it and tell us this isn't an exploit. Or like many are saying about let master smugglers slice with a PUP. I mean comon what else do masters get?

I think that the esence of a smuggler slicing is hes doing something against the law. A previous poster mentioned it here or on another topic (sorry to forget your name) that Master Smugglers should be able to slice with powerups, or a new item similier to powerups that either increases the lowest possibility percentage. So instead of it being 15% the low percentage would be boosted to 20%-25% as the lowest that slice could be on that weapon or piece of armour. It would make Master Smugglers seem more important.
I'm not syaing keep the exploit in but learn from it and adapt it into something that is fitting for the proffesion. It would be a nice addition for us before JtL hits.

Hmmm couple of posts mention peoples weapons being destroyed... ack, can you imagine the customers reaction? "I paid X credits for that...." blah, blah.
No thanks on the failures, its hard enough to just get paid for the slice.

How about instead of REMOVING the power up, how about NOT ALLOWING the slice to happen at all with a powerup on. So instead of slice, option 4 or whatever it is, is ALWAYS (unless there is no power-up) Remove Power Up.

I Still don't know what adding powerups during slicing is supposed to do. When I heard about it, I tried it, and I admit it. Only, it did nothing for my %'s. I just lost some powerups. What's the big deal. The exploit is that we lose powerups.
Is the theory supposed to be that the powered-up Speed or powered-up damage are further added to the slice %? If so, how would the damage or speed stay at that rate? Wouldn't it go backdown after the powerup wears off?

The system already does this...
If you are handed a weapon with a powerup already on it, then you click the Slice option, the powerup is removed as soon as you hit the Slice button.
The issue here is the application of a powerup AFTER the slicing process has begun.
Which seems to me (as I mentioned before)...just moving the powerup check from "After 'Slice' selection" to "After 'Cut wire 2'" would be the best solution for this...

Quid pro quo
Let Smugglers power-up slice until the smuggler revamp.
