Thread: So, to fix slicing exploits, what would you suggest?

How about they make it so powerup slicing on looted weapons actually decreases their damage. Say, for instance, that you powerup a looted LVA (exceptional). its doing 250 damage before the slice, and you powerup slice it. In this particular example, it gets a speed. So you remove the powerup, only to find that its max damage is now 230. Intrigued, you slap another powerup on, and remove it. Its damage drops to 220. And so on.

This happened to my friend, Ashtu.

Just move the powerup check / removal to after the second wire cut. Exploit fixed.

This recent interest in how to not only do slicing exploits, but justify them, has led me to wonder how you would prefer we fix them from happening.
We know that powerups are removed as we slice each wire, but this obviously hasn't solved the problem.
Here were some options from my perspective. Working within the system we have now, rather than pushing for a revamped slicing system that we will hopefully have eventually.
  1. Have the slicing window turned into one that you either 'do or do not'. You don't work on thirty different things while slicing open a grenade and work from a fixed window that does not allow you to move stuff around in.
    • Concerns:
      • Laser knife charges would need to have a system check at the same time the system checks for an upgrade kit, to insure that the slicer has enough to finish a complete slice.

  2. Have the check for a powerup occur before the % of the increase is calculated. If detected, return to the window while having the powerup removed.
    • Or if detected after a wire is cut, have the slice fail. (Stick it to them for tampering with the system too much, so to speak)

  3. Ask for power-ups to not increase the base weapon stats. In short, alter them so that when the weapon is sliced, it won't see the increased stats.
    • Concerns:
      • This is asking for a pretty large overhaul of the database most likely in how they put powerup stats on weapons.

So what would you prefer? 1? 2? Both? Some other solution that I can't think of at the moment?

Personally I would like both included at the moment, but maybe I'm not seeing all the problems with such actions.

I'm just editting on the fly as I continue to think on the subject.

Seeing as how this thread was posted before you posted that...

Firstly if i had not read this thread i wouldnt have known this is ameant to be an exploit. If soe dont notiofy people in game tyhey cant hold me responsible for doing something, which amongst ,edmitating and powerboosting is amongst my little sueprstitious ritual of slicing. I use best qual clamps and so forth i can, and ill tell you this, ON 100 vks slcied, with powerup, precisely, Nothing amazing hapepned, I hasd a ratio of 50/50 dam and speed slcied kucklerrs. no uber slices, what soever, So the pup thing i have always seen as a mere prop. It doesnt really seems to work. Imho. So much so, I cant justify wasting a pup opn oit. Now if it actually worked. and it rated any positivebefnit to slciing, I would merely say that, a) Make it officially part of smuggler process, end of. and b) Stop worrrying about the minor pices of the proffession and get ot fixing hwat we care about being broken, like the damn color palette adn the slcie button and give us a protection form black rot in feign death.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."
