Yes, this is a good beginning...but there's a long way to go before Dev credibility is restored...

This is my sentiment exactly.

Though I will freely admit GreenMarine has always been able to bring about the most hope for me. I've only interacted with him briefly in the past, and it was enough to convince me he is an outstanding guy who really does care.

Greenmarine is the man. During beta 1+2 I worked with him in his focus threads. Hehe It was very interesting, servers would always crash with like 50 people on the server... ahhh those were the days.

Though I would like to see a mini min mini smuggler push to adress a few issues. Like for instance slicing containers in dungeons.

Why should I, or anyone else in the Smuggler community, continue to pay for this game?

Because:

  1. At its core, SWG is still a fun game. The next few publishes are focused on fixing major elements of what makes the game frustrating. Eliminating hologrinding, improving the Jedi experience, balancing combat, and introducing new GCW features. All of this promises to improve the overall SWG experience.

  2. JTL is coming. Jump to Lightspeed is adding a completely new experience to the game. It's a lot of fun and its very different.

  3. Smugglers will get a revamp. I can't say when. If I did, and we missed it, you'd kill me. A revamp will happen.

  4. No more smuggler B.S. No more announcing a date and not delivering. We're going to put together a plan for smuggler and post it here so you guys can review it. We'll have a plan determined before we start writing the code so you know whats going to happen to your profession.

  5. Because we will do a lot of stuff you asked for. Better spices. Spice experimentation. No more pistol requirement. A lot more new stuff as well.

If they do answer, another question I would have would be... why should I, or any other member of the Smuggler community, believe you this time after so many broken promises?

  1. No more broken promises. I had some very frank discussions with several smugglers at Fan Fest. I KNOW you guys are frustrated. We aren't going to string you along. There will be a revamp. It might happen after JTL, but it will happen. There will be a public plan for the revamp ahead of time (possibly soon) that you guys can start tweaking for implementation.

  2. I take this profession very seriously. I know its flaws. I'm going to level up a new smuggler character, myself. It's very important to me that Smuggler is improved and turned into a fun, rewarding profession.

WAIT -- What is that ? Is that a Light at the end of the tunnel? No It can't be. I have seen that Ilght before. I have run to it in the past. It calls me. Like a Small Child looking for it's mother. I run to it as I have in the past. At the end of that light is a small Man and his words to me are simple but strike Anger in my heart, Words like knives that hit in a hail storm against my body.. these words.. "Please list your Top 5 problems with the smuggler class" Arrrruggggg.. GREEN Nothing against you man. You have taken on the thankless job of beingunderthe bus andon the business end of all the anger with the Post-grenade that JustG and TH left. I Want to beleve this will happen. But I know it will not happen for at least the rest of this year, and when JTL comes out even longer. Though I was under the Idea that you guys were working on something for the smugglers. Has it been put to the side. Your post sounds like you guys haven't even started any thing. Why would you ask for so much info about something that hasen't even hit a drawing board? This is why I don't beleve this will happen for sometime. There are too many big protucion items coming down the line for anyone to set aside time to do what is needed for our class. You know there will be problems with JTL .. it would be foolish to think otherwise. Anything worth while will take time. But I think time is something we have been giving up a lot of to help make this game fun.. It seems like it's your turn.. Why not push back JTL? Fix the classes that need work and then go and toss out a ANOTHER item we have to PAY to OWN. Sorry just Mad and Wish we were not so in the Dark all the time.

That's a good question too, but may be too confrontational for them. I mean this is a simple question that as a designer/developer of a game should be a smiple thing to answer. Why should I play your game? If you can't answer that question then there is a problem deeper than we can even see.

I've been a Smuggler for the last 8 months and have beenholding out for the revamp. When I read the news Saturday,I started dropping it today to try something else. The revamp is not going to happen this year. I'm guessing a year and a half from now.I love how we keep hearing that Smugglers will play a greater role in JtL -- ouch, that really is a hard point to swallow. Now I'm forced to buythe expansion just to play my character and deal with the bugs the expansion brings. All MMPOGs are like this in their infancy and there's nothing we can do about it -- we just pay for the research & development. I just think I need a break from this game... maybe a three year break.

What about Rangers? It would be nice to hear your plans for us as we haven't had any quality attention spent on us for about 8 or 9 months.

does this mean that our only advantage of being a pistoleer smugler also gets screwed ? so should we just surrender the pistoleer skill or what ? please tell us so we can getr eady for the rewamp and remove our skills.

Your answers seem genuine and carry hope, Greenmarine, which of course makes me nervous. It all just seems so far off now, when we have been led to believe that help was on the way for such a long time. Maybe those of us who have become 'glass half empty' types will feel different once we see how the next few patches change the game. Maybe seeing your plans for the Smuggler Revamp in the near future will help us understand why it had to be put off until who knows when. Looking forward to seeing it, regardless.
Through all the previous talks of our impending revamp, we never actually got much in the way of info, of what could or could not be done for our profession. Actually seeing a proposal of what is in, what is out, what might be possible, and what is impossible, would go a long way towards regaining our trust and retaining our business.

I can agree with all of that. Smuggler has been the single profession I've kept throughout the last year, desperately hoping we'd finally get something worth having instead of yet another nerfed special, or another reason not to bother craft spices. I can wait a bit longer, i suppose, but it's getting kinda hard to maintain enthusiasm. The sooner we see some genuine communication with the Smuggler community, the happier I'll be.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this. What you need to also keep in mind is that these are the same devs that "invented" holo grinding and thought it was a good idea.

None the less, it is a small positive at least.

The question that I think most of us want answered is:

Why are we currently paying to play a profession that requires to be revamped. When the people we are paying are using that money to work on something optional.

You are not paying to play a profession that could do with some changes, you are paying to play SWG, with many places to go and many professions to master, the smuggler profession is about a third of your character.

You are paying to play the game, not to be a smuggler.

Yeah! GreenMarine is not dead ! Allelujah!

Ok, so as it seems to be a good place to have answers, i'll add my question to the top ones :

GreenMarine, you've been assigned to smugglers since september (if we are to believe Q), what did you do for the last 8 months?

What did you do for the game if you didn't do what you were asked (I.E. loving smugglers)?

I'm not saying you did nothing, but what you did was (partly)with my money. I was paying for this game because i had faith you were working for us (the smugglers i mean), if you weren't can i know on which profession i should play (one you worked on for instance) so that i could at last have some fun while playing a useful and bug-free profession?

Thanks for passing by though
