by the way (I'd like to have an edit button)#

At Gorath you can charge what you want, most Masters are

1. not slicing (on Strike)

2. only slicing for PA mates

3. charge 10k or more

Personally I have to getmost of my skills from a NPC trainer 'cause you hardly find any Masters nowadays

It's not IF I can do it, it's HOW MUCH you're willing to pay.

I suppose whatever the market will bear, 100cr/% could be out there simply because the math is easy....

but a flat rate of around 10K could make it worthwhile, if they dont want to pay a slicer doesnt have to work....

Depends on how valuable your ingame time is as well. To go to someone needing a slice or waiting to meet up with them and taking up 10-20 minutes of your game time is valuable.

Question is , what do you think your time is worth as a professional.

I charge 5K per slice, if I get a low slice I roleplay it and tell them I'm giving them some money back to keep the low % slice a secret, if I get a high end slice I expect a tip. I'll probably go to 7K once I hit Master and hopefully wont have to give any money back at that point.

Thanks - that's about what I was hoping for.

I plan to make this character (a second account alt) a Master Weaponsmith/Master Smuggler with a little bit of Merchant, so I'm hoping to earn a living selling crafted, slicedweapons, rather than just barking for random slices at starports...plus the free slices and weapons for the guild.

But I do plan to wear my Master Smuggler title at all times just out of pride, and maybe for a little roleplaying here and there, so I'm sure I'll get a few tells asking for service. I figure I'll keep the prices high enough that most people will either not want my services - or if they are desperate enough, pay my price and make it worth my while. Just wanted to make sure what I thought was a high-end price was actually high-end.

Interesting double standard you've got going Max. Geevo and others say something about pricing and you tell them to get over it yet every thread about pricing has you not following your own advice and not getting over people who care about pricing.

It's not a double standard. I said: "Spend your time on more important things that being bothered by theLOWER prices other smugglers are charging."

I'm telling Geevo to get over people who are charging LESS than he believes they should charge. Everyone should charge what they want, and what ticks me off are people who "tell" me to charge more.

I am not trying to raise or lower the price that other people charge for slicing. I am against price fixing. This has been my stance in every thread I've posted in.

Good try though.

First, I tell people to charge less than I do.
Second, it is not that they charge less than they should ... it is more that they should value their time more. People charge low amounts (from what I have gathered from many conversations) because they think that they are unable to get more. They are incorrect, and I try to show them that.
Third, I am not price-fixing ... I tell them to charge what they think they should ... but try to encourage them to put a value on their time and the resources.

Stop charging based on percentage!!! You have no control over the slice outcome so why should your time be worth more/less. I find this to be one of the silliest ideas to come out of the Smuggler community.

I agree with you on the price but not yourviewon % pricing. I feel the client should get a break in the $ based on the %. Now with that in mind my price goes from 4k up to 10k. Its not a silly idea after all your cable bill is based on basic and plus so is most cell phones and anything else with add on features. But thats just me....

There are a few reasons I charge based on percentage.

I have been a Smuggler for over a year (as most of you know) and have charged fixed rates ... and variable rates. I used to charge a fixed rate because 'why make less if I have no control' ...

The reason I went back to a variable rate when I went to $400/% increase (which is now $450) is because I make more. Customers are more accepting of it, and when they are not, I offer a flat fee of $15,000 while advising they are better off taking the variable rate. The other reason I charge based on percentage is that although it provides additional work for me, I enjoy it.

Smugglers...your time is valuable ... if you don't realize it ... nobody will.

I know what you mean.....NEVER will i charge less then 10K for a slice, my times too important to me to slice for peanuts. I figure if doctors can charge 10k for an enhancement to ur stats for only 3 hours i figure i can charge the same price for an enhancement on a weapon which will out last several sets of buffs....hell i should be charging 50k to slice, come to think of it. Then again if i did that people would cry and moan that smugglers charge too much.....why oh why must this game be so miserable.

*feels this thread being deleted*

ya i just answered a similiar question

I charge 7k each weapon, 75k a suit of armor.

With the few complaints i had i told them this

"you pay 10-15k for a 3 hour buff" "i slice your equipment it last for a few days maybe weeks."

It's changed a few minds.

BAH yes we do.

Regardless of the slice the item is better than it was. Thats why i just use a flat price when i slice.

Max Frigging Steele. Don't you EVER accuse me of price fixing ever again. Don't you EVER tell me to "let people play how they want." again. EVER. Don't do it. That's the DUMBEST thing you've ever said, and you've said some dumb dumb things.

I have ALWAYS advocated against ANY price fixing. In fact, go check the first few pages of my post history where I get in like a 2 page long fight with someone over EXACTLY that. I have gotten into more "Price Fixing Doesn't Work and Never Will" debates than you have dumb ideas. Oh. I'm sorry. Am I flaming? I'll turn it down. Because frankly, I'm feeling a little insulted by your holy than thou "leave the poor little guy alone" response.

The truth is, its not that I want to screw the populace. It's not that I want to lose business. I've had exactly 2 people turn down my pricing as too expensive. TWO. And one came back. So it's no skin off my wallet. What I DON'T like is, "Oh well so and so slicer is doing it for nothing so you should too." That's not necessarily that smuggler's fault. But it concerns me. It aggravates me.

But that wasn't my major point. You know, my major point, which you glossed over and decided to ignore so you could try and verbally spank me as an old school bully?

My MAJOR point is that while his profit margin is of NO concern of mine, I REALLY don't like the fact that he's continuing the mythical attitude of a bad slice. I don't like the fact that his pricing is furthering the mindset that a slice below 30% isn't worth anything. That the ONLY good slices, are the BEST slices. Because that's crap and it's not true, and that DOES make my job harder. I don't overcharge. I charge EXACTLY what my time and slices are worth. To me, it's 250 credits per percent of increase. They get what they payfor. That's it. That's my BIG concern. Because I'm sick of people telling me how worthless that speed slice is. HEY! I just saved you money on skill tapes! Now you can get rid of that speed one and get ANOTHER skill tape! I'm sick of people acting like a 25% slice is crap. I'm sick of people acting like my services are a PRE-REQUISITE to owning a gun, and that they're doing ME a favor by using my business. I'm doing THEM a favor. I'm sharing an illegal skill. They're paying me for it. That's how it goes.

But don't ever call me out for price fixing. That pisses me off. And if you were a noob, Max, I wouldn't care. But you've been here a long time, and you oughta friggin' know better.
