I have a question:

Where did u all got the Information that player needs Smuggler to passt scans?!!! It isn't mented in the Devs Topic?!!!! it would be cool, but as i see it, it will be like the scan is right now, perhaps more frequently

Like the cantina crackdown, it was mented that the cantina crackdown will be continued??!! heh? the last time i saw something like that on Gorath was ehhh 7 monthes ago....

JediNizar2:

Nothing was said about the Devs removing completly our contraband scans avoidance skills, so why should it not work anymore? (I assume you are aware that even right now, being grouped with a Master Smuggler give you a 95% chance of you passing safely trough a contraband scan, even if you are wearing full sliced composite, a sliced gun, and is high on spice. )

We are talking about contraband scans. Faction scans, so far, we can't help trough (unless they have a surprise for us lol)

Oops JediNizar, just saw the "Master Smuggler" in your sig. "blush"

So you obviously know about the scan avoidance skill thing.

So you must have thought we were talking of faction scan, while we were talking of contraband scans.

But when will there be real penalties for everyone, not just faction players?

Seriously guys, I'm not trying to rain on your parade, this is unbelievable to me. Oh well, I guess the TV awaits.

Darn you Wolf. Change it back so people know what I'm talking about lol.

Zane, have you gone rabid? I was under the impression that every neutral is subject to contraband scans and the penalty of fines.

ARGGGG....

We're mostly ALL Master Smugglers, we don't get caught now and we won't be getting caught after this change.

This makes scans somewhat more annoying to the non-smugglers but what EXACTLY does it do for US?

We're NOT going to be hired to tag around the place with other players JUST so they don't get caught....not until the scans are at consistant and important spots like starports.

So WHAT does this do for us? Please, spell it out for me, HOW do I benefit from this?

This is the arguement that SanTsu used in the original "Battleof the Crackdown". He said that it Smugglers didn't Smuggle before the patch andit wasn't supposed to make Smugglers Smuggler after the patch.

And we know what happened there. Then again, San didn't really fight for us. Maybe now that we have compitent "ass pimples" ( ) in a place to voice our concerns, we can get the scans in starports and to scan everyone regardless of rank (even with some slack given to higher up officers).

Scans will be consistant, since not only the Imps are scanning now, but neutral police forces too. Won't be at starport, but can be just about anywhere else in the city.

So yes, if you go trough a town only to buy a ticket to go elsewhere you might not encounter scan, but if you try to walk around the city, to go elsewhere or from elsewhere to the starport, you have high chances of being scanned.

And like Ternque pointed out elsewhere, the chances of you being scanned by an ennemy faction is proportional with your rank. (Imperial Colonels might be immune to Imperial scanning, but they get scanned by Rebels WAY more often then, say, an Imperial private.)

That's the point. This change does nothing for the neutral Smuggler. It opens up some for faction Smugglers since at least they can help fight off the scanning crews when they get caught by faction scanning patrols.

Fines have proven meaningless. I want law enforcement to act on illegal items, not faction affiliation. Attack neutrals because they carry illegal gear, and it goes a whole lot further than what this, at first glance, appears to.

And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I think the highlighted text is what bothers me. What keeps you from bringing contraband on-planet and then shuttling to a player city? This problem is easily solved by placing scan teams IN starports.

And the problem with Colonels not being scanned in their own territory would be solved with Ternque's(?) idea with them being scanned left often but with less of a chance of scan evasion than a Master Smuggler.

Minor tweaks to the system that make an astronomical difference towards making us actually useful

The scans are being done by law enforcement now as well, and still only the miniscule fines. It still comes down to whether or not you belong to a faction. Sorry, can't get happy about it now matter how hard I try. I'd much rather see a benefit if your faction controls that planet, but the same punishment for all if it doesn't. Now that would bea true benefit of joining a faction and make it just as meaningful to be a Smuggler no matter what faction you are. Ok, but that would mean that nuetrals are constantly under a state of punishment regardless of which faction controls the planet.... This goes back to the argument by some regarding total autonomy of high ranking faction players.

Keep in mind that they also never stated that the scans will increase. Hopefully they will, but it hasn't been stated. The fact there are always two types of NPC'sscanning in all the NPC cities on the three main planets will thereby increase frequency of scans. but i do hope they up the frequency in addition to that as well. They never mentioned increased scans. If they do increase, great, but it still does nothing with regards to punishment for illegal items, only faction affiliation.

I'd still like to know, when did being a Smuggler become so much about belonging to a faction? I don't think it is or isn't. You will still have the smuggler ability to avoid a scan, just no reaction of force from the rebellion or empire, because you are not involved in their war. Of course the police forces may still react with violence towards you. I love my ability. I want others to want me to use it by assisting them. If it still remained a matter of warring factions scanning, I could handle it. I wouldn't like it, but I could handle it. Now they are involving law and planetary authorities. The only way to get them to attack is to be an enemy of them, but they already attack for that as it is. In other words, the little thing they tried to pass as them attacking if you're an enemy is BS. They'll attack anyway, and probably fine you while they're attacking. Nothing has changed for the neutral player except that they will get scanned more often (or so we hope). There still remains no punishment, and no reason for non combat professions to join a faction. It's a double edged sword they've unleashed and I happen to think they're wrong.

It comes down to this, keep it within the GCW or expand it to all. I got told it's the GCW so much the past few days it was unbelievable. I understood the argument, even though I thought there was room for more. We've gone outside of the GCW now, and we need to recognise that. As we all know from experience, it's a lot easier to get a change before it's implemented than it is afterwards.

Well guys and gals, I really wouldn't sweat the free pass given to high ranking officers. Don't jump on my back yet, please lend an ear!

Even though officers are defacto smugglers in their own gained territory, I think that they are heavily scanned and harrassed in enemy territory.

Even if a colonel can get used to being a smuggler in their own territory, but they won't grow accustomed to it because they will get into the habit of always being on guard anyways from attacking enemy soil.

I have a strong suspicion that military equipment will be made highly illegal in the future, and I want my factions officers capable of moving that equipment around easily on our own terf.

I think the fact that enemy territory will show NO leniency toward the opposite faction, this presents the PERFECT climate for smugglers to find a job escorting military supplies through areas of enemy ground. This equipment WILL be needed to fight for control of the planet, and smuggler will be the needed tool to get that equipment there.

That would be cool though!

One thing that always got me was the fact you "hit" a fellow officer to get away with your contraband. One thing I know, is that in most armies, hitting a fellow officer, subordinate or not, without just cause lands you in the stockade/brig. Perhaps they should make it so that instead of slapping the guy scanning you, the scanners(of your faction) are *less* likely to scan you, but if they do, its dependant on whether or not you're a Smuggler.

This means that a Colonel will get scanned less often than a Master Smuggler of the same faction, but the Smuggler will get caught with contraband less often, with all factions.

That's a brilliant suggestion. It makes logical sense--an officer who's earned the trust of his faction's going to be tested a lot less often than some buck private who for all we know could be the next Han Solo--and gives those officers a perk of the rank without rendering them completely immune. But best of all, it makes being a smuggler mean something.
