Mmm I would like the "after you get caught enough times you are seen as abusing your high rank immunity and get demoted" but since peoples who are high ranking to start with usually have enough cash to get back up to Colonel in a very short time, it would not help.

If it was that neutral police scan everyone, then it would not be so bad, but the way it is worded, seem to me that the neutral police, if the Imps are in control, won't scan high ranking Imp officers and if the Rebs are in control, the neutral police won't scan the high rankingn Rebel officers.

I said the part about the neutral police because several of thoses who posted they had no or little problem with the high ranking immunity noted that "neutral police will scan everyone anyway".

It DO change a lot the picture, so wanted it very clear.

In fact I am even tempted to post on the dev thread, asking that question. Just to be real sure we are not interpreting things the wrong way. Think I should change my Smuggler icon, "go undercover" to better the chance of an answer? "chuckles"

Correct. Local law enforcement just aid whatever GCW faction is currently Occupying thier planet.

High-ranking officers aren't scanned in their own territory and are shot at on site in enemy territory. They simply are not scanned.

This change would only apply to civilians and low-level faction members. But with the recent removal to the faction point buying cap, I suspect we'll see very few low-level officers in the near future.

They are only shot on sight if they are not "On Leave". I think that you will find that most people will be "on leave" most of the time. Because running in ST's unbuffed is a good way to find the cloner.

My point being that, yes high ranking members will avoid scans with their own faction, BUT they will still be scanned by the opposite faction because unless they are planning on killing ST/rebel troopers or PVP, most people will be on leave most of the time.

Ok I posted on the official thread, with this:

Calandryll said:

The neutral police forces are loyal to the faction that controls the planet and some will conduct scans of passers by. The police will be searching for contraband such as illegal spices and sliced weapons (regardless of faction) or enemy faction players (Rebel or Imperial) and will fine or attack as appropriate. Running away from a scan will continue to have the same effects (loss of faction). High ranking members of factional armies will be safe from scans if their faction controls that planet.

Just a clarification request, one that change completly the picture from the Smugglers point of view.

Wich one of thoses scenario will happen?

1- Neutral police scan everyone, regardless of faction and rank. If I am a Rebel Colonel in a Rebel controled city, I won't be scanned by Rebels troopers but CorSec might scan me.

2- Neutral police never scan high ranking officer of the faction controling the planet. If I am a Rebel Colonel in a Rebel controled city, I am never scanned.

Mmm just another question, since now there will be faction scan as well as contraband scans.... Will the scan avoidance bonus of the Smugglers only apply for the contraband, or will it apply for the faction too? (thinking the former more likely while hoping for the latter )

Thanks!

I really think like we said that for my first question the answer is 2 and for the second the answer is "contraband only", but hey I HAD to ask.

Oh man, You know what kills me - with these changes in place, I can see some of Auraboron's logic with tailors and ID's being more in need now. A smuggler wearing a high level Imperial uniform would certain improve his group's chances of getting past security.

Anyway - I'moptimistic about these changes - but until I see something in writing that says "BTW guys - Grouping with Smugglers helps you avoid/pass scans" I'm really not expecting much to change Smuggler wise

Hmmmm maybe just in a bad mood today - who knows.

I really wish we had an official answer to the questions I raised. The neutral police question change so much for us, and from what I am reading the opinion on the board seem split between scenario 1 and scenario 2.

Mmmmmm Wes? hehehe Can you put my mind to rest?

Maybe the faction Smugglers, but the rest of us got the shaft. Not only that, but as Indy pointed out, if you don't want to have penalties, just stay neutral.

Sorry guys, I'm happy for you Reb and Imp Smugglers, but this blow for the rest of us.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

well, nuetrals still have the scans for contraband and such, just no faction scans. and now it is done by more than just stormies. in fact, nuetrals have to worry about imps, rebs, and police scanning them.

The scans are being done by law enforcement now as well, and still only the miniscule fines. It still comes down to whether or not you belong to a faction. Sorry, can't get happy about it now matter how hard I try. I'd much rather see a benefit if your faction controls that planet, but the same punishment for all if it doesn't. Now that would bea true benefit of joining a faction and make it just as meaningful to be a Smuggler no matter what faction you are.

Keep in mind that they also never stated that the scans will increase. Hopefully they will, but it hasn't been stated.

I'd still like to know, when did being a Smuggler become so much about belonging to a faction?

But when will there be real penalties for everyone, not just faction players?

Seriously guys, I'm not trying to rain on your parade, this is unbelievable to me. Oh well, I guess the TV awaits.

Darn you Wolf. Change it back so people know what I'm talking about lol.

Ok ok, what I said is something about how actually neutral crafters might be thoses who need us to smuggle them around the most.

BUT snce they get scanned but not attacked, most likely it won't be true. (they can be attacked by some neutral police force for having bad faction with them, but that's not scan related so being grouped with a smuggler won't help avoid that)

Ok so it was pretty much what I wrote, if not verbatim.

Dang Zane, you are quick.
