Thread: Just a Quote & Clicky that Makes me a Sad Smuggler *Tiggs Posted Within*

I read that quote in the newsletter, and it didn't scare me at all. I guess working in the software industry has made me jaded about the slow progress of things, and anything at all makes me happy. This is the way I look at it:
They said they were waiting for the context of the Combat Revamp to begin the design work for Smuggler and the others. This makes sense. Why revamp professions that may have some affects from another update before you know what those affects will be? Especially in the case of Smuggler, where some combat skills are involved.
I would actually FAR rather that they start their Smuggler planning AFTER they've got the design plan for the CURB worked out, instead of having to rework the Smuggler design once the CURB tosses it all on its ear.
This also tells us that the Smuggler revamp will be after the CURB. Didn't we know that anyway? I also look at it that they're at least starting to think about how to revamp Smuggler and the other "non-combat" professions. Which is better than nothing.
I'm like world's most pessimistic optimist.
As I stated before, the CU has nothing to do with the functionality of the Smuggler profession. The basis of our combat, yes, but not the actual functions.
What I mean is, what does combat have to do with knowing what you want the profession to do in regards to new features and systems? Balancing our combat moves and mods has nothing to do with us making Fake IDs or setting up a player-based Smuggling system.
And why in the world would they quote the month of January for the design work to begin if they're waiting for the CU to kick in? That doesn't make sense. And it, as per their new community communication policies regarding such issues, we were supposed to be notified of the delay or pushback or whatever.
I hate sounding like a broken record, man...don't do that to me. Please read the last two pages.

We need the context of the Combat Upgrade to be finished though before revamping the non-combat professions completely. This doesn't mean we are not going to address critical bugs and issues with professions, see the next item…."

Hello,
We did start that work and just to be clear it is work on several of the non-combat professions. The Combat Upgrade is still coming first before we get into implementation however some fixes like the one currently on Test Center will be coming in the interim.
May I ask about the "unprecedented communication" that was promised to us where the community would be highly involved? Also, I think it's pretty unclear what is being worked on. Some say it's the entire Revamp some say it's just fixes leading up to the Revamp. It'd be cool if we knew what was being worked on.
I think everyone knows the revamp isn't coming out until after the CU. That's cool and understandable. But we were curios if we were being worked on during the testing/developing of the CU. Many questions that could/should be answered since dates were published and passed withou anyone notifying us of what was up. This should solve that I supposed.
Thanks for posting, Tiggs.

Great to know things have in fact started. We are all a little worried about how much communication there's been so far, though, so I hope that we see some community-dev discussion here before our part of the revamp's built too far to be impacted by player suggestions.

Hmmm...
What about the recent crate issue in the slicing process that came down on the Smugglers, adding insult to injury? Why did that happen, and why can't it be repaired in the interrim?
Because if they fixed that then something like Crafting stations would stop working or something.

Hey, that whole crate pulling thing is an inconvenience and a pain, but let's not bring it up. It's a non-issue. But Nick's right. You guys started? Weren't we going to be invited into that discussion? Now I know you guys would like to have something to show us, but you know how paranoid we are, and how the last time you "waited" to show us something (ie: the Imperial Letdown) we got up in arms.
All I'm asking is that you guys put us in the loop, or at least say, "Hey, we've officially begun internal work on this, and we'll roll it out to you when we're ready."
I appreciate the previous change, it's awesome...but don't forget you promised us communication as well.
QFE. Thanks, JTG!
And I hope everyone else sees my original point that JTG just restated: "But Nick's right. You guys started? Weren't we going to be invited into that discussion? This was something I thought about and the reason I wanted the issue raised since January has passed (along with the date to start development on our revamp) and we had received no word on whether things had been delayed, which we shuold have been notified about, or on whether things had started on our revamp, which we shuold have been notified about.
Either which way, we were left out of the loop and I was hoping to raise the issue before the it got too deep, if you know what I mean.
Good post, JTG ![]()
