Just recently I relinquished my office as guild leader of the AlderaSect. For over a year I have role played a Rebel officer and was always the serious guy that was always patching up arguements between players, sponsoring guild and player events and instituting policies for our members so that our playing time would be enjoyable. One thing to note please...guild leader is extremely stressful and had taken its toll on me. My guild has wonderful players and is like one big family but the job had left me close to leaving the game.
Then I found the great world of being a smuggler, a world of its own where I could be both good guy and bad. Where I have the opportunity to have alliances with the guys that I was always trying to kill in the name of the force! Smuggler has given me more enjoyment in the past few weeks than any of the elite skills I have mastered. I like being able to slcie my own weapons and armor and then turn around and make profit at the same time to both imperial and rebel alike. Oh and being a spice dealer with a YT1300 stacked to capacity and being so sneaky and lurking in the shadows....well I have only one thing to say! Jedi could not hold a candle to the light I've found at the end of the profession tunnel.
I want to thank the Smuggler community and all that post in this thread for helping me make a decision that has brought the joy back in my gameplay and allowed me to live the saga once again!

Smuggler was the one profession I wanted to play and the first profession I mastered. I really don't play it to make money, slicing business is good, I need to grind some faction to get to Col., spices are dead, I carry around a Pixie for emergencies, but never sell any of it. What I do like is the RP aspect of being a Smuggler, plus the dancing girls dig the title. I don't mind slicing, I like to see what people have and if I see some good armor or weapons I ask were they got 'em, so I don't have to search the map for a decent gear. I anxiuosly await Smuggler Content, the closes I've come to Smuggle anything was a Datadisk out of the Waren for someone for a million credits.

I enjoy it for the RP aspect. Sure anyone can claim to be a scoundrel IC; but having that Rogue...or Master Smuggler title above your head legitimizes that claim.

of course, that's what i meant.
but seriously, its the "idea" of being a smuggler. guess you'd say the RP aspect. i wanted to be a smuggler, that's why i bought the game. still waiting, oddly enough....

Fernas; "do it because you want to be a smuggler"
Ahhh...do I need to point out that we don't smuggle anything so we can hardly really call ourselves smugglers.
Just because SOE gave our profession that title doesn't mean we are.
If Dancers couldn't dance or Musicians didn't have any instruments to play could they still call themselves Dancers and Musicians?
I think we need to face facts. ATM we are NOT smugglers simply by the definition of the word smuggler. SOE can't redefine the English language...or at least I won't go along with it if they try.
I mean it's all nice and fine to live in our little SWG fantasy world but at least let's share the same definitions of common English language words...like 'smuggler'...which we aren't.

... Well pixie and muon and whatnot are contraband to the empire, and we traffic them to those that buy it from us.. that's smuggling.. Hell, use my yt as my storage space for my crates of goods that I have...
One idea I have though I'd like to be implemented, is that if you are scanned, if you have smuggler, there's a certain % chance (dependant on how many skillboxes you have in smuggler) that you'll be caught and it would spawn a mob of stormies on you. I'd also like to be scanned in space, would be cool if (guess wouldn't work for imps though, maybe they could be exempt, or maybe reb ships spawn on you like they were attacking an imperial supply ship?) it caught you as being a "smuggler" a bunch of ties would warp in.
That would be good smuggler content at least... There's nothin really right now. =|

Smuggler gives you a little flava of everything, which is why I like it. You have crafting skills, support and service skills, and fighting skills. It really is for the player who is truly multidimentional. Bored with shooting dudes with the pistol? You can sit in the starport and slice for some quick cash, or work up a new Muon schematic with junk resources and stock the bazaars. You can broker faction points for some nice cash too. There are so many ways to make money doing smuggler its not funny. The fact that you can speak with the Jawas is also pretty cool.

Fernas; "spinningcloud, re-read the post right above yours...."
I just did...again...maybe I'm being dense but...yes????

Yeah...too bad none of it has anything to do with smuggling. Honestly I'd give up slicing, fp trading and spices in a pico-second for something that is relevant to smuggling.
