i know that if i were able to do that i'd have to charge some serious $$$$...make the jedi think about their actions before going and doing stuff that will make them more "visible"

oh, and i just thought of this....make it cost the smuggler x ammount of money to "pay off" an npc to take the mission out of the terminal so that a jedi can't just get out of it free by having a guildy go slice the term for them

Hmm, this topic has put a little thought into my head.

Imagine, if you will, a world where players could not travel openly if they had a bounty on their head. They had to hire a smuggler to smuggle them. You know, it's kind of like the first movie. Obi Wan had to hire the Solo to get him off of Tat because it wasn't safe for the known Jedi to travel openly.

Implementation:

Player with a price on his or her head enters a star port. Player is ejected from the star port. Message appears on the player's screen.

'There is a price on your head and you see several people inside waiting for you. You can't travel this way, it's too dangerous. You need to find a smuggler to get you off of this world.'

what would u think about this, so in JLS, some players with high bounties, wouldn't be able to use starports anymore and it can be risky for em to use their own ship, so they could contact smugglers to travel in their (our) ship and have less visibility like down from 100% to 50%, still with the risk to be attacked and tracked by BH.

so if the dude gets attacked/tracked while he's in our ship, we get visibility as well.

I think it's one of the greates idea I ever saw bout JLS/smuggler revamp

Theoretically a great idea. My only reservation is that it could very well be too hard to implement. If a system like this was set up, I can just see the majority of the Jedi community up in arms because they can no longer travel as they wish and must now waste their precious time finding a smuggler when wanting to travel between planets.

I realize it's an incentive to not get a bounty on your head, and a very good one, but I just don't know how well that would go over. Plus, we've seen what lengths the devs go to to appease the Jedi sometimes.

Wonderful idea though!

1) If this were to be implemented (I hope it is) it's not going to get done until the smuggler revamp, at which time everyone will be able to have bounties on them (assuming what's been discussed so far gets done), so it won't just be Jedi specific.

2) I'm sure we can expand on it to prevent it from being just a simple 'taxi' service.

3) It all depends on whether GM will go for this or not.. it's a nice idea, but whether he'll have room to fit it in, well, none of us can know.

Making the Jedi have to hunt a Smuggler down then pay us credits to transport them...I don't see how this benefits them, but it deffinatlyhelps us and i think its a great idea

I thought the only reason Luke and Obi-Wan travelled with Han was because they didn't have a ship of their own... Though my ANH tape is broken, and it's been a long time since I've seen it. Oh well, good idea, but likea previouspostersaid, I don't think the devs will restrict public travel...

How about this, you replace the pistol XP needed for underworld to "smuggling exp" and you have smuggler mission terminals, where you would need to find the person/shipment of contraband that needs smuggling and you smuggle them, with a chance of getting found by imps. and when you finish a smuggling mission you would get the smuggling exp needed.

Just stumbled into this thread, don't often visit the smuggler forum.

Glad some of you liked the idea. It was just something that hit me as I was reading something else. It made sense to me, if an authority type is hunting a fugitive what is the first thing they do? Try to cut off means of travel like airports, bus stations, and train stations for the fugitive. Things like that.

Even though it was a quick and dirty idea, I don't think it would be difficult to implement. The code to eject players from specific structures already exists(such asa merchant's house when the entrance fee expires). So does the code to track visibility. The code to put screen messages on there certainly exists.

With JTL, all the smuggler would have to do is group the hunted player, run into the starport, and call their multiperson ship. Smuggler and Smugglee load into space.

As far as the Smuggler danger in it. In space, the TEF from thehunted onemay tranfer to the smuggler's ship. That adds an eliment of danger if the BH or BH group was in hot persuit and close behind. It isn't too much danger, as there may be no BH tracking the target, or the BH may be off on another planet still. In this way, the smuggler wouldn't be just a taxi since the chance for a fight is there, even if it isn't a big chance.

Anyway, I just thought it would be a good way to increase the content and immersion of the game for several professions.I was pretty vague on just what the smugglee would be since I've read greenmarine's post and it looks like it could be more then just Jedi by the time JTL rolls around.

**edit**

As another factor, you could add the ability to bypass the star port lock in the Master Smuggler box. This would add value to the box for those smugglers who choose to make unethical choices during the harder missions resulting in a bounty on their heads. This way, while a Master Smuggler may not be as combat capable as a Jedi Knight on the ground, they would be the most ellusive mark.

It is my understanding the the easier Smuggler missionswill not result in a Bounty so that some Smugglers can stay totally PvE and avoid the danger aspect.

What would be cool is if I could smuggle a Rebel Jedi, and turn around and turn him into the Empire. Mwuahahahah. That'd rock!

What are you talking about? It benefits us as well. It benefits us alot. I'm down with it.

The only class currently that can have bounties on them are Jedi. Unless they implement player bounties, which I'm doubting they will, the only class this will benefit are Jedi.

I don't think it'll be too hard to implement, it'd just be a variation of the house tef, like high visibility players (jedis or smugglers) couldn't use starports, and could use their own ships with a major risk in space, using a smuggler's ship would reduce that risk.

that'd be cool if we could have at least our correspondant's opinion here, if not some dev's vision.

I like the idea. yeah, we MIGHT start to look like a taxi service.. but it'll only become that if they implement missions where we HAVE to take x amount of people/cargo to someplace to get xp. then you'll see people actualy STARTING taxi services. nuh-uh.. not me...

If an ancient Jedi, and a whiney farm boy need to get off planet, and i need the creds, then yeah.. we kick it ANH style. We either get the TEF with the BH, and our vis goes up if the BH gets a successful tracking roll, or the BH loses the quarry(again, we gain TEF and vis but not as much) and the "cargo" loses half the amount of vis they had. The highter the Vis, the higher the chances that the roll will hit.
The "underworld" tree shuld include a skill, that would allow us to see the TEF or VIS the same way the COn is shown. Green, no ones looking for 'em, yellow, someone's a little unhappy, Red, this being has pee'd in jabba's hooka, and being fed to the rancor would be a kindnesws.. that sort of thing...

again, this is just my outlook...

YMMV
