Thread: Petition: If you think the smuggler was done wrong, and would like it fixed, sign here.
I think they should leave it the way it is until Space expansion then rename Smuggler to Criminal. That way they can redo Smuggler with ships.
Gerrakis - Smuggler
Bloodfin- Bestine, Tatooine
I totaly agree, Smugglers should have missions that reflect the profession.
Mundy
Starsider Galaxy
Haven't seen an MMORPG yet that left their professions and skills alone - they all tweak. We just have to keep making posts to let them know what we want.
While I agree their need to be some changes - it will just be difficult to please everyone. I can only suggest that instead of removing a line that already exists we might want to just modify them. There are people that like it the way it is - but do want more.
Example - I like the spice making thing (lets not call them drugs- ok - more politacally correct for the game and all). But maybe we could rename the skill tree branch to:
"Spice Trade" leave what is in it as is (making spices) - but add concealing cargo to it (thus the "TRADE" aspect) Now Cargo could be anything - including NPC's / creatures / weapons / spices whether on your person or on your ship at the space expansion. (I agree patrols should have a chance to detect and remove your cargo - to make this work - you take an assignment - conceal cargo - deliver if undetected by a patrol and mission complete -if detected the cargo is removed from your inventory and returned to the NPC or PC you were contracted with - mission aborted - you don't get paid - and a possible bounty placed on your head for failing.)
As far as Underworld goes - no, you don't know every language in the galaxy, you know the 8 starting species languages - there are 1000's more. We should get translators that are more advanced with each level - non-tradable, non dropable - and there should be missions for the smugglers given out by other species that only we can understand and take - just like only Bounty Hunters can take bounty missions. These would include the smuggling missions - maybe crafting spices - maybe we even get new recipes for spices from these species and learn them. It could be very rewarding roleplay this way. Leave the underworld in. But give more meaning to "fast-talking" and "underworld connections" - this is where the bulk of the advanced smugglers missions should come. The back alleys, back rooms of cantinas, and in the pits or the very underworld we serve.
Slicing - I like it the way it is. Just needs to be working better from what I hear. I also like the idea that if we're slicing a terminal that we have a chance to set off an alarm and troopers, militia, police, or even a BH can hear it and come after us. We take a chance to finish the job or run like little chickies to save our skins. We should also receive missions that call for this skill - to get into buildings or open terminals. A great way to do this for the devs is all those terminal bxes they place in some of the static spawns. We would have to slip in and slice a terminal to retrieve information or an object from one of those cabinets we see all over. Slicing armor and weapons is great. Don't know what else to say about htis.
Dirty fighting - like it as is - couldn't add much - but there might be some skill someone can think of they'ld like.
I guess the easiest way for us to get what we all want (pssst - will never happen - can't please everyone, all the time) is to suggest ways to modify or add to the existing lines - change the "dream" the devs have of the smuggler with some additions or modifications of our own. Complete change isn't unheard of - but it's a lot harder to get and it seems like most of us like parts of the Smuggler - or we wouldn't be here. The good thing is that with only two branches from the lower skill trees, we still have plenty of points to experiment in other areas.
Good luck all.
Excellent post Lady_Outlaw.
I do believe that the smuggler profession needs some tweeking and skill adjustment, and hopefully we'll get this shortly.
I agree with everything but the spice crafting. I think it NEEDS to be in, because right now it seems that is the only way to make money. Also, I think they definatly need to add in an engineering prerequisite.
Well, I'm signin.

NIce ideas but no matter how much you or anyone else likes the current skills they do not belong in this profession as long as it is called smuggler. Smugglers do not make the spice, its a very simple fact. They also do not sell illicit goods, they smuggle it. Now I can name a few types that might make and sell illicit goods. Criminal,/thug/crime lord/scoundrel/gangster, and many other titles that are used in the game with npcs would work.
smug·gle
v. smug·gled, smug·gling, smug·gles
v. tr.
- To import or export without paying lawful customs charges or duties.
- To bring in or take out illicitly or by stealth.
Nothing in the current skills at all related to that definition. Either they change all the skills and make them fit the name or they rename it and fit the name with the skills. Like I said before I would gladly wait for a true smuggler profession and I'm sure others would to. All those people that pleaded so long ago for a criminal profession you got it,but they just need to change the name now.
Also a criminal (Jabba type) and later a smuggler (Han type)will offerthe greatestpotential for player interaction down the road. Thenwith BH's thrown in it gets even better.
I really hope Holo or someone responds soon, as I think its safe to say the "underworld" communities of SWG are not happy with what we currently have, and the smugglers especially cannot be happy with a profession that is in no way related to smuggling.I hope you can find the time in your busy schedule to at least tell us something, anything. We are paying customers and not just beta testers, so please don't forget us!![]()
Those of you who like the spice crafting thats fine, but it has nothing to do with being a smuggler. Those skills should not be in a profession with the name smuggler. Those skills do match a criminal type however and thats what we should be pushing for. Renaming the profession would save a lot of time and ensure we would have a real smuggler for the SE..
Think about the future of the underworld in the game as a whole. We would be way better off with another criminal type profession. That way they could make the spice and the smugglers could smuggle it. The spice crafting skills are good and the spice that is produced could easily become popular, but it also needs to be illegal, eventually if not now.
So I ask the devs for a criminal profession now, or whatever name they come up with, and a true smuggler profession for the space expansion. I think thats the only way it can be done since nothing is illegal and putting in that system with an expansion makes a lot more sense, then trying to do it now and only succeeding halfway.
Add my signature of course.

im yours.
i am working towards smuggling because im hoping the devs will tweak it and get some missions in there for the smugglers. i thought about bounty hunter and seems more logical, but i thought to myself everyone is going for the bounty hunter profession. the smuggler would seem fun to outwit and run away from the bounty hunters. but we PC's cant even have bountys on our heads (yet?). so i dont know im thinking about going bounty hunter right now unless theres a great demand for papreyka and salt.
maybe when the free updates release the vehicles smugglers can have a compartment installed hidden from the naked eye. then the missions could come into play. think about it. a land speeder with a hidden compartment filled with contraband. delivering and dodging faction policemen and bounty hunters. now thats what im looking forward to.
Yup, it was done wrong. Any prerequisites from artisan would be better. Won't go into long details here, I do sowherever possiblealready...

I completely agree with BrettMouron. I want to be a Smuggler in the worst way, but will not until there is some actual Smuggling involved and the Spices tree is taken out. As previously stated, Smugglers do not make or sell, they transport. The entire class needs to be renamed (Scoundrel) and Smuggler reinstituted when the space expansion comes out (or at least when vehicles are instututed) giving Smugglers a vehicle/starship pilot tree rather than Spices. I would also like to see Smuggler Mission Terminals.
Another idea I had was creating a new Novice starting profession of Mechanic that would be required for Smuggler rather than Master Unarmed Specialization. What good is a Smuggler that cannot fix/improve his own starship/vehicle? Mechanics could also fix any number of things in the Galaxy. Really like that weapon that is about to degrade? How about making it so that a master Mechanic can fix an item for little or no quality cost? They could add bits to already made starships/vehicles or even power-ups as with weapons. I mean really, what were Han and Chewie doing when not involved in Rebel business or actual smuggling? They were fixing the Falcon...all the time.
