Thread: The CU looks REALLY cool!!!

As weird as this sounds I have to agree with Hotdog on this.

For those people that say they are going to cancel, shut the H&!# up and do it already.
We as paying players don't need to hear your claims of doing so. What purpose does it serve?
Do you need someone to hold your hand on the way out? Afraid that you might be the only one to go?
If you are going to cancel the only thing WE as player base need to hear is "LEAVING GAME SALE"!
So go ahead and quit. Send emails to your friends and tell THEM why and tell them goodbye. Leave your
pitty party drama out of the forums, especially of out other peoples threads. This just my 2 credits.

As far as the CU goes what I don't like is the colored icons, the lack of a combat window, no auto-defend and only having a 2 special queue in combat. Also the fact that Master Pistoleer has no complete mitigation with Recon Armor, No DoT attack for Pistoleer, group size of 8 max and Action pool doesn't regenerate very fast.

Now, Riot. Can you say something good about the CU?

Yes. No more reliance on buffs and the addition of new armor and weapons.

But...... In the process, they ruined the diversity available to a single person in favour of general diversity by adding weapon and armor certs in a manner that you can't even equip the non-certed stuff even with a huge penalty like now, they didn't add the OT Rebel outfits and instead added those silly Guyver-lookalike suits, and they made Doctors clerics instead of surgeons.

Well I do agree on the good things but I find SO much of a decrease in diversity that it is disturbing.

While the bufs had gotten WAY out of hand they have been decreased to a point that basically everyone has vanilla HAM. We are all just alike as long as we've maxed out our combat professions...and we pretty much have to to be competitive. I liked the diversity that 9 HAM components gave and the ability to migrate them so we were all different. If buffs had just been toned down then we would have had more diversity in our HAM. Now we're all alike.

I don't see anyone commenting on the utter destruction of the Entertainer profession either. Though it's not Smuggler related directly it IS part of the richness of SWG.

Sure, I too was tired of seeing everyone in composite. But now we really don't have a different situation except for the graphics. All the advanced aromr or a given type is the same in stats...only the graphics are different. Same is true for weapons of a given type.

As for the specials making combat more intricate...that only goes so far. I find I don't use a full range of specials. I tried out TKM a bit and found that with spin attack moved to pikeman I had to take a line of pikeman to be sufficiently effective and get a decent number of specials. Then I found that in a group of creatures it was pretty much spin attack I used over and over again.

I just don't see how the CU promotes diversity in general. IMO it removes diversity.

As for OUR profession I think it added a lot that we've always wanted but there ARE other professions out there that are suffering badly for it.

The thing that really gets me is that they could have found a way to work the changes of the CU into the old system. It was supposed to be a combat upgrade.

Instead of removing the diversity in HAM, they could have made it so that some of the attributes allowed for natural armor. They could have removed the current, live, restrictions on donning armor and put in the movement restrictions if they wanted.

They could have have negated the powerful nature of buffs and armor that resulted in melee seemingly being overpowered against ranged. They could have finally raised the effectiveness of the other melee professions that were neglected. It is still my contention that TKA would have a difficult time with ranged combatants if buffs and armor were reduced and ranged combatants knew how to fight instead of using the same one or two specials.

Honestly, I was learning to like the CU, but being reminded about how dumbed down it is I keep wishing the developers actually HEEDED the players when making their decisions and used their heads. We're now in the grips of having a severely rushed upgrade coming out. We didn't see this same exact thing two years ago?!

I have to say that I TRUELY hope they do something for the Entertainers- and Docs and Medical people too.

But the way the game was- people were really abusing those professions.

Hopefully there will be a better more challenging role for Entertainers especially.

It seems that there could be SO much for them to do if there was an Underworld aspect to the game or if SPY work- like transfering secret documents- and charming information out of certain officials by answering questions the right way and performing for them- had an impact on the GCW.

I don't know what the Devs have planned but I do know they are going to revamp the non-combat profs next so I imagine it is there that they will give the entertainers their due.

As far as diversity- that is a two way street. Especially in a game. WeHAD diversity and yet- everyone wore the best armor- everyone got the 2500 hp/3hr. Buffs- everyone joined a solo group- and everyone went their own way and maxed out their cash so they could repeat the process- and everyone complained at how borked the game was-

We STILL have diversity- just not on a "this is the best template" level.

As a MS/MC I will be able to fight using a Rifle. a Grenade. Knucklers. Pistols. and a few other certs I haven't even figured out yet.

Someone will attack me without hacking away at my Mind Bar. Hell, I don't know what they will aim at.

A lot of this has to do with how people deal with change. It's doublely hard because change in a video game takes a long time- PLUS we are having to do it in stages- and even though combat will be balanced the game will be lopsided until the non-combat portion is brought into line.

but it's NOT the end of the world and professions are not perma-ruined.

It's a process. Participate in it and help make it better is all I can say.

Well, sure professions are not "perma-ruined", like us for example. It's only been two years and we still only have a still-empty promise.

How long do you think Entertainers will have to go? Hell, the devs STILL apparently have no problem with bufbots...they even made it EASIER to be a buf bot...you don't even have to run a complicated script.

I really think there were better ways to deal with the buff problems and the lack of armor diversity. I just don't think this accomplished it...and especially at the price.

I don't like the fact that bufbots have such a negative effect on the Entertainer professions but at the same time- I've had to use bufbots on a regular basis- as I've needed those buffs to play the game as I like to play it. And searching for a ATK dancer as well as a buffing Doc AND a vendor that might actually be stocked with food/spice/armor- would often eat the hour or two that I have to play.

The CU will change a great deal of that.

Without getting rid of the bufbot directly- getting rid of the NEED to buff will help cut down on that sort of activity.

Adding CONTENT for entertainers would help as well because people would be out doing things with their dancer instead of crowding up Cnet while they are at work/asleep.

You say that the lack of diversity is bad. I have also seen you promote the K.I.S.S. principle of keeping things simple.

One problem in the past was that the HAM, the armor, the weapon damage types were TOO diversified. I am glad that the devs are simplifying the system because it is much easier to keep control of inbalances that could arise from extremely diverse systems. Now they can easily track and solve inbalance issues because of the simplicity of the system.

I think the diversity had to go. I would rather spend my strategic time thinking of how to fight best in battle, than spending my time only thinking up the best template/weapons/armor in order to be successful on the battlefield. It is a good change.

Get away from populated cities and areas; this works fine for me.

I agree

It does suck for the Entertainers and Docs, but the game needed to move away from the preparation trap it had fallen into. But what needs to happen now is they actually fulfil some of the empty promises they made about recursive macros. We have seen afk combatants tweaked, and the natural move would be to do the same for bf and Inspiration buffs

It's kinda like when people think back to the days of when they had to find their corpse in order to keep their stuff.

Or you had to literally RUN from one POI to another.

Yeah, the game was...well it wasn't fun to do those things but it was a challenge and interesting- but I would MUCH rather play today's game over that one.

The CU too will be a vast improvement in time.

They might NOT have needed to make such a drastic change to the system but a change WAS needed drastically.

We also need to remember that the reasons they might have went with such a hardcore change is that:

  1. like Ternque pointed out- it will be much easier to adjust any inconsistancies in this system.

  2. it will be easier to ADD whatever new stuff they want to add in this system.

I hope the Devs realize I'm takin' a lot of fire over here... Someone wanna come in here and back this thing up!?
