Nope definatly not a 5

Panic shot which should delay the targets next attack hits for 0 or 1 but has no noticable delay, I tested this on Fed-Dub's and they all hit me very consistantly.

Low blow, hits for about 158 damage and does nothing else.

Reckless shot hits for 1138 but the debuffer isnt fun

Restraining shot has the same text and as Reckless shot and "snares" the target but they still move relivitly quickly, Also having a snare and a root seems redunant, If i can root them why would I snare them?

Last Ditch Incapps me each and every time I use it regardless of how high or low my Health bar is.

Overwlehmning shot doest fire!! I hit the button 10 times against the Fed Dub and not once did it fire.

Feign Death doesnt work! it fails alot (also we have gone from FD +70 to 60 now) even at master which yeah a fail is ok but not the majority of times, I might as well have TKA Force of Will instead of feign death if its going to be like that.

When I got it to 'succed" nothing happened, the mobs still attacked me and incapped me.

Overall I think im going to change my sig to

Not a 5 without all our specials functioning correctly.

More like a 3 or even a 2 I'd say.

I happily grinded up the pistoleer/smuggler tree on TC before frog skills were turned on. Most of my time was spent in a group hunting out of Mos Taike.

The only special I ever used from the smuggler line during this time was Concussion Shot. And it was only used when one of the group mates pulled a mob when they shouldn't have or drew aggro from another source and I had to Root it.

Smugglers alone are not very good at crowd control. In fact, the only real combination I can see for true CC is commando/pistoleer/smuggler. This hybrid will allow the player to use a launcher pistol (which is an AOW now (read: it damages in a radius around the target)) to hit large groups with say Lowblow (when it works) or a CS root.

Crowd Control - just it's name alone implies the ability to "control" crowds. That means more then one individual. Our specials need to be AOE's or Cones... able to strike multiple opponants. We should not be forced to hyprid our toon for the ability to use a weapon with AOE damage.

We should be able to mez/root a group. Then target one individual from that group and debuff them while your groupmates kill it.

This is what crowd control is.

Oh and by the way, Last Ditch is AWESOME. It actually scales it's damage based on your wounds. I've been in many duels testing our specials and easily LD is the one finishing move that gets them, and me sometimes, every time. Unfortunately it is ONLY a dueling skill, you wouldn't want to use it in a large scale fight because it drops your ham to nothing and one shot will take you own easily.

All in all, I'm sad. Smuggler is still, always has been, nothing more then a complimenting class. We will never be a combat class in our own right. And with that said, we need to get our specials working as well as fight for changes to the skill tree. Let's get rid of the melee modifiers that we don't ever use. Or give us some melee attacks to equal or compliment our ranged specials.

I have to say, when I read the title of this thread, my first instinct was to reply as such:

"Are Smugglers a 5? Hell no! We're a 10, baby!"

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

Fix the specials and we will see. Reducing the number of redundancies with pistoleer would also be nice.

I can attest to the awesome power of Last Ditch. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it that's for sure.

yeah i was thinking that there needs to be an area rooting attack.
i'm a master Smuggler, master Pistoleer, Carbineer 4040. i made that template so i could have some serious crowd control skills. but in reality i can't control any crowds.

both smuggler and pistoleer have rooting attacks. pistoleer and carbineer have area attacks.
from the CU documents it seemed that Pistoleer was for affecting a single target, while Carbineer was more for affecting multiple targets, and Smuggler seemed to be somewhere in between as a support to either of them with the most potent of these "crowd control" attacks.
but the only area/cone attacks from those 3 profs that i can remember offhand are Fan shot, Burst shot, and Full auto area. and only one of them applies any states to the enemies (Burst shot applies stun, i forget what stun does though). the other two are straight up damage attacks.

perhaps one of the current non-working attacks in Smuggler can be converted to an area root, but have it not last as long as Concussion shot so that it doesn't become too powerful.
it would make sense in thinking that a Smuggler would be daring and a bit crazy just shooting wild, holding a number of enemies at bay (in other words rooting them).

If they would fix our damn specials then yes, we would be a 5.

  • Right now our snare move doesn't really slow someone down that much.

  • Overwhelming Shot does not function at all: no combat spam.

  • The states we can lay are very nice, but they don't last very long. I find that before I can stick all of the states, the first one applied wears off. Fixing Overwhelming Shot would REALLY help.

  • Panic Shot only causes a -15.0 penalty for an opponent's speed and has no intial delay for them. Low Blow does -50.0.

  • Low Blow doesn't KD, but the speed penalty on the enemy is nice.

  • Reckless Shot has poor damage, especially given the defensive penalty for using it.

  • The root/daze special we have either needs a form of counter or needs to be shortened in duration. In PvP, a melee template would be helplessly slaughtered.

Again, if they FIXED the specials then we would be OPERATIONAL in our role. I think when they get fixed, smugglers will definitely be a 5 in crowd control. We, right now, only have specials that lay states and root, and only being able to do that ranks us at 3 for mezzing/crowd control.
