Smugglers will charge what the market can bear, same as any other merchant or professional. There are quite a few Master Smugglers that hang out in Coronet on Kettemoor, so prices are generally around 2000-3000 credits here. Best solution that I have is that I don't rely on slicing or selling spicefor income (heck, no one uses spice any more). I armor up and hit Dantooine along with all the other drones. Good thing I kept my Pistoleer skills.

yes i did mean 100k's per whole armour.
So if you charge 10k/slice, and there are 9 pieces of armor - how did you come up with 100k? By most calculators, it should be 90k. Not 100k...
1 Helm
2 Chest
3 Pants
4 Boots
5 Gloves
6 Left Bracer
7 Right Bracer
8 Left Bicep
9 Right Bicep
10 ?
He said 10k per weapon slice and 100k per armour set. He never said he charges 10k per slice.
Geez man... talk about harping on the wrong subject ![]()

I used to be a firm believer of lower slicing prices. But lately I have been really busy in RL and so haven't been able to play much. Also with the autopull now a thing of hte past the time required to slice has increased. As such I have increased my rate. I'm now charging 15k per slice flat rate. No ifs ands or buts. I don't like charging that much but like other people have stated it comes down to 'Presious Time.' So now if they really need that slice now then they will have to pay my rates. Otherwise they'll have to go spend some of their 'presious time' looking for another smuggler. And i don't do a lot of slicing for the general public anyway. Mostly i just slice for guildies and friends who get it all for free.

Charge 10k a slice and stick to it. This is all about attitude. Not the customers attitude but the smuggler's attitude. As long as you believe you only deserve a miserably low amount for your skills and are willing to get bullied you will have this problem. You have to educate yourself that it is your TIME that people are paying for as well as your skills. Also, as long as you worry about the other "smuggler" taking your business and you "better" keep your prices low to compete you are going to have this problem.
Stick to your guns and make slicing a premium that only those with the cash can afford. Respectyourself and others will follow. Also, there are other ways to make money. As long as "slicing" is your only source of income you are going to feel pressure to be a "low ball slicer" instead of a Master worthy of good pay.
Finally, concerning bad mannered customers: /ignore is your friend.

10k a slice? Jeez, no wonder you get NO business! I charge 3k a slice bottom line! If they got a 45% encum slice for the 3k they pay up front, then cool! All I require is payment up front and I almost always get tipped after the slicing also. I don't play that stupid 100 credits per percentage crap that some idiot made up a long time ago. But, your prices are yours. If you charge too much, they just go to another Master Smuggler like myself who charges reasonable prices.

well the thing imagine getting a 35% slice on a weapon and you settle for getting paid 3 to 5k's hum i think a reality check.
i charge 100k's per armour because i lose more time thta is the bottom line,
MY TIME letme repeat MY TIME
that means i think that my time is worth that amount of money so for me to perform the job i get paid that.
im not saying what the rest of smugglers should charge, hey thats you,but i think prices should go up a bit

Lol, silly scylla, About the time i began to hate slicing i started to charge 15k a slice, and i STILL got more slicing then i wanted, now i tell them 50k all the way up to 300k, and unfortunatly i still get some takers.

Some interesting points... guess it depends on where u are on the skill tree?
When I started, slicing was free (for those who would allow a Novice to slice)
As I picked up speed, I low balled to gain experience -say 1k to 2k-, and because my skill was not maxed (not worth the clients money, yet)
Still a Novice Smuggler (grinding away) but with Slicing 4 I have been charging 4K weaps and 3Kpp Armour....
but when I make Master, the rates will defenitely go up.
10K per slice sounds reasonable to me, and whether you give a bulk discount on multiple items or charge a premium for your time is really the choice of the MS.
I think it is defenitley time we take pride in this prof, and we're not breaking anyones bank roll by charging 10K (Slicing is a highly valued service!!). Those MS continuing to charge 3K and less are doing themseves and the MS comunity a dis-service, in my opinion.....
On a side note, I do slice containers for free as this is quite trivial i think (most people tip ne ways), all slices for Guildmates are free, I help out the odd noob with a free slice, AND, whenI hit MS if the slice is under 20% I will not be charging (my own quality/customer service philosophy); no one would pay for crapy armour or weaps, so why charge for a bad slice....
My 2 cents

Heh, I've got it in my bio that being an ass makes the price go up, pay in the trade menuor banktip (after I slice, but before you get your item back).
I charge 5k. 5-10-15, etc for a jerk.
One **edit** made it all the way to 100k before he got the point. I love people like that.

If 10K is a reasonable price for a slice, what is a reasonable price for tools by the crate?

Well, the crates dont exactly slice the weapons themselves now do l they
With Spice's becoming nearly useless, I dont see the problem in his prices. I rarely slice anymore, but my prices can be anywhere form 5k-7k depending on how I feel.
We have invested theskill points and time into the profession, so why not charge x-amount. To eaches own is what I say.

I ask because I know that he pays 440 credits for a slice. Just as with slicing, a tools merchant invest skill points for the schems, time for survey, harvester runs, and vendor runs. I didn't say there was anything wrong with his price but if 10K is reasonable for a slice, what is reasonable for the tools?
