Thread: Keepin' da Jedi Down

Dont know if any on my Smugg Brothers have noticed the current poll at the top of the forums, but I believe it demands our immediate attention. Unless of course you dont share my views... then ignore this
Vote "Mysterious and Unknown"! We are already suffering from more Jedi per-capita than was seen in their hayday before the purge! This time period is supposed to be nearly devoid of Jedi, yet I mwyself witness 2-4 each time I log on. Making the path "known" will only ensure things decline from here. I personally it should be as mysterious as the original "Hero of Tatooine" quest... but even I know that might be too harsh...
I'd vote for a known path if and only if acquiring force sensitivity involved an IQ or other rudimentary intelligence test. I honestly don't care if there are dozens of Jedi per server, so long as they're not imbecilic children. Or how about known, but once a person attains force sensitivity a "leet-speak" detector is automatically activated, and any time they utter the words "uber", "1337", "pwned", or any variation thereof, they automatically lose their force sensitivity.
I would of course encourage the expansion of the latter idea into the community in general, with draconian penalties.

I have to agree with Caylin on this one, and in fact had already voted to make it known. His breakdown is on par.
Having more Jedi breaks the continuity for the time, but this game has evolved as all MMORPGs must, and so we must adapt.
As for this comment, I myself am a casual gamer (defined as someone with only an hour or two a night to play) and i do not think they are catering to the casual gamers. Power gamers (defined as players with a LOT of time to play) will always get everything in a game, no matter how hard you make it. So, make it fair and fun for casual gamers because there's no stopping the others anyway. Allowing only the power gamers to achieve something"special" is a bad thing, as not only does it make the game not fun for everyone else, it also alienates a large playerbase, which is bad for the game itself, as well as profits for the company.
ok.. in the GCW timeline, vader and the emperor were two of the biggest force sensitive beings around... Vader was charged with the destruction of the Jedi order. any Force sensitive being could fee disturbances in the force, over light years (precedent: Obi Wan's comment about a billion voices, crying out, then silenced. and they were still in hyperspace, and about 300 Lyears out from Alderaan). So, my question is, where are the ST death squads, and why aren't they hunting down these Jedi? why are the Devs bending over for the Jedi?(mumbles something about weak minds and the force)
anyhow.. if this keeps up, there WILL be two different games being played in SWG. one called "Jedi Force Genk Battles: The Ridiculing" and "SWG: Are Those Damn Jedi Gone Yet?"
just my two cents...

I wouldn't mind this so much if they did what they said they would do around beta. Have Vader himself (and a few other hunters, Jade, Fett, etc) come down and just slay the everloving crap out of any jedi who makes a show of himself in a starport.
I like that idea. Maybe even expand it so that if you are killed by one of these guys its a severe punishment. Lose 2 skills instead of 1 for instance. What would be really good is if they gave Darth and Boba reasonable HAM and reasonable resists but were near impossible to hit and did godly damage. Then people would think they had a chance against them but would get worked everytime.
Andas an additional deterent, if you utter any "leet" speakon a normal basis, instead of deathblows, they take you away to a prison and you have to figure out some way of getting out. The solution to getting out would be speaking in a complete sentence using proper english or whatever language is your native(wouldn't want to penalize the Europeans).
I don't want the FS slots opened at all. I want a Non-Jedi server. Especially when they revamp the GCW!

On my "casual gamer" comment, what i mean is the this game has been "watered down" to the point that, as soon you buy it, you will have to grind till you get enough money to get doctor buffs, then you are ready to roll. You won't ever need to group. You won't ever have any challenge to be a master of anything. You will be able to take on any animal, person, even npc fs, you will be uber. Everything is just too easy. I don't think it needs to be like LII but this is ridiculous.
This really has nothing to do with casual players. The game has not been "watered down", the players have Mastered it. Things like buffs and good weapons are more readily available than they were before. Blame that on the powergamers, who have to "have the best", so it becomes available to everyone. I consider myself a casual gamer. From day 1, I have been playing Renn and it took me forever to get Smuggler, then master it. I did the whole thing without buffs, without armor, without groups, all the way up until I was well into the Smuggler profession and only a Novice Pistoleer. And this is well into the game after buffs and all were commonplace. Even after I got some armor, I still didn't buff all the time, because I'd "waste" 2/3 of the buff time, as I only had an hour to play.
I recently started a new character on another server. He's a Wookiee Bio-Engineer and Creature Handler. I've gotten all the way to Novice BE and Novice CE and almost to Novice Fencer (for when the beasties take offense at my poking them with a needle) without a single buff, no armor, and almost no grouping. Only yesterday did I really group, and it was a VERY nice Master TKA on Dantooine who volunteered to kill everything in sight so I could harvest the kills and get to Novice CH (I was already at Exploration 4).
Sorry to make this so long, but I feel there is enough in the game, both for casual gamers and powergamers. As I said before, powergamers will conquer the game no matter what. Casual gamers will get to the same point, but will just take longer. There is plenty of challenge in the game, and the Combat Rebalance will add more challenge. But the powergamers will plow through that and say again, "this is too easy". In the meantime, casual gamers will be plodding their way through, enjoying the sights and challenges along the way, and eventually get where they are going, more enriched (in my opinion) by having taken the "scenic route".
