Dont know if any on my Smugg Brothers have noticed the current poll at the top of the forums, but I believe it demands our immediate attention. Unless of course you dont share my views... then ignore this

Vote "Mysterious and Unknown"! We are already suffering from more Jedi per-capita than was seen in their hayday before the purge! This time period is supposed to be nearly devoid of Jedi, yet I mwyself witness 2-4 each time I log on. Making the path "known" will only ensure things decline from here. I personally it should be as mysterious as the original "Hero of Tatooine" quest... but even I know that might be too harsh...

Your right, even Yoda makes a point in Empire (which has not even happened yet) about the lack of jedi. Sadly, they are here to stay. Here are some of mythoughts on the subject....

1.Bring the saber tef back.

2. More and better (non-bug) BH missions, make it such a hunted profession that people would rather use the 2nd slot for somthing other then Jedi.

3. Use your new 2nd slot to make a FS Bounty Hunter, kill jedi. Lots of jedi, lords know there are enough just running around. We need to thin the heard before winteror they willall starve to death...

I'm sorry, I disagree. Having mysterious and unknown will just further compound problems.

Yeah, mysterious got us holocrons and profession grinding. The path needs to be known. It needs to have some limits, like you have to have played the game for 3 months before you can start or something like that but it needs to be known. If it is not known everyone will just being trying to figure it out and not playing the game.

Make the system known, but put a week timer between parts and everyone will play the game during the week, rush off to do a piece of the quest, and then spend another week playing the game.

Unknown can only get the game into more trouble.

Well, Luke couldn't become a Jedi until he confronted Vader, right? So how about the final piece of any Jedi search is having to confront and kill another full Jedi (preferably with some kinda permadeath put back in). That would keep the ranks down thankfully.

I know it'll never happen. I was just ticked this afternoon when i saw more Jedi Knight and padawan tags than I saw Bounty Hunter, Docor or Smuggler tags in Coronet. Even saw two "mighty" Jedi double team a non-Master Fencer. Was kinda a sad sight for the SW universe...

How so? I mean, not to "hijack" my own thread, but I respect your opinion and would be interesting to hear at least the short hand of how it would complicate...

As I posted on the first page of the new comments thread in the "In Concept" forum, as soon as someone figures out the "unknown and mysterious" way to unlock your Force Sensitive slot, it will get posted on every message board and every web site that has to do with Star Wars Galaxies.

I say the developers work on making the path fun and interesting, and less on trying to hide it and make it "unknown and mysterious". Their efforts will be in vain.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

I tried to remain short and sweet with my disagreement, I didn't mean to lead to a hijack of your thread, but I did wish to voice my disagreement... I hate remaining silent Here are some things I was coming up with, feel free to address whatever aspects I may be wrong about (Though I don't think there are many, if any at all).

Pros and Cons of mysterious and known approaches to force sensitivity.

Mysterious:

  • Pros

    • Having the process remain mysterious provides a challenge for the playerbase towards a goal.

    • Players will continue playing, just on the hope that the next thing they do will 'unlock' their force sensitivity.

    • It fits with the idea of jedi being a mysterious sect, accessible only by a few. (+1 continuity)

    • There will be fewer Jedi so long as the process remains unknown.

    • There will be a real feeling of accomplishment by the players who succeed.

  • Cons

    • Jedi will continue to be a 'clique' and will not be considered as a normal part of the player base. There will always remain a division between the 'normal' professions and the Jedi. That is not healthy for building a community for a game.

    • The economy will continue to go haywire as players try different things to see what causes force sensitivity.

    • Jedi will continue to be treated as a minority, open only to those who dedicate great amounts of their time doing things in game.

    • Those who are casual gamers and play maybe a few hours a week will in all likelihood, never achieve Jedi status and be embittered by it as they don't have anything to gauge their progress.

    • Casual gamers who bought the game believing they would at least have a chance at getting a Jedi in a reasonable time frame (A few months of solid gameplay against a year or more) will be disillusioned the longer the process is mysterious.

    • Interesting content will seem forever out of reach for many of the player base who play to enjoy a game and work toward goals.

    • Mindless activities will continue by those looking for the solution to their force sensitivity over actually enjoying the game. This contributes to a feeling of 'wasted time' should the player ever discover what the true process was. No player likes to think that their time was wasted.

    • Mysteries will be solved, then plotted out until they no longer remain mysteries. Rendering many hours that were used to that end, largely pointless. Time that could have been utilized into making the process involving and content rich will go towards making it 'mysterious' instead.

    • Players who have been told their progress in grinding professions would be remembered, will have no idea where they stand in the new system. This contributes to a feeling of despair that is not healthy for the continued subscriptions of many players who don't want to feel as if they are starting from scratch. (+1 discontent among the much larger, non-Jedi playerbase.)

    • Players will always be asking if the way to being Jedi was nerfed or changed if they don't get it at the point they are led to believe they should.

Known:

  • Pros

    • The playerbase as a whole will be happier, knowing where they stand in getting force sensitivity.

    • Pointless activities and grinding will come to an end.

    • People will play to enjoy the game and choose whether or not towork towards having their force sensitivity. This allows them greater opportunities to role-play without wondering what would happen if they did 'just one more thing'. They would have no idea of knowing the consequences of their actions.

    • Economy will become more stable.

    • Players will not feel that they are wasting time doing things in a random search.

    • Those in the Jedi councils will have some real competition.

    • The Jedi will lose ground in the verbal wars where they feel that they are more entitled to certain treatment than other professions. They become more a part of the regular player base.

  • Cons

    • The Jedi population will grow and be all over the galaxy. (-1 continuity)

    • It will lack some of the mystery involved with being a Jedi. (After all the movies and books though going into their workings... how much remains to be a mystery?)

    • (I'm not finding any others at the moment)

Is it just me, or has the poll gone now? O.o

Ignore me, I'm moronic (I'd already voted )

Anyways, in an attempt to hijack the thread (mwahahahaha.. etc.) here's a very nice thread with an idea for Jedi

(someone, some day, is going to have to teach me how to do links, because I've tried html and the normal 'forum code' that I'm used to )

I have to agree with you whole heartedly Caylin. Having the path known is far more beneficial to the game as whole.

I'm in agreement with Caylin too. The Devs gave us a Jedi unlock system already - hologinding - and, well, it it was terrible. I'd like to think that they've thought of a better system this time, but if they haven't, knowing the system gives us a chance to voice our opinions before it's too late.

I agree with everything Caylin had down and the reasoning behind it (as always, we have the BEST correspondent). KaiRan has a good idea too as far as continuity goes. I think we have come to the point that this game is beyond any sort of timeline and if they even try to continue the story arc they should be really concerned with what they are doing.

I think with what Caylin has set up there in that response is how we go from here and why a known path will allow this game to be around for years to come.

Should there not be any Jedi in this time setting of the game.......YES

Will making the path known hurt the game..............I dont think so

But making the path known allows every player the option of going the FS route or doing what they want, in gameplay it ruins the whole feel of where we are in the star wars universe.

Im not sure how I feel about the whole thing seeing the Jedi with their "gank squads" , CM's., doc's, Rifleman all walk around with the Jedi for protection while they hunt overts for force ranking system points and likewise a MBH needing a tkm and just as many "gank squad" members to hunt a Jedi.

Wether or not its good or bad we will all have to wait and see..............but without telling people they could become a Jedi would this game be so popular?
