Thread: Are we (Master) Smugglers getting a new pistol?
Very true.

Guys, Gals -
Going to be a little negative here, so be prepared.
Whether or not we get a new weapon changes nothing.
It's fluff, pure and simple - does it solve ANY of our profession's problems?
Does it fix our broken specials?
Does it make Underworld useful?
Does it make spices more valuable?
Does it make slicing more enjoyable and sensible?
Does it address the fact that a Master pistoleer/smuggler STILL fires slower than a rifleman?
Pistoleers are in the same position - they get more pistols but their specials still don't work....
In effect, time has been spent on new graphics and weapons which could have been spent on, ohhh I don't know, addressing anyone of our numerous and crippling issues. But no. Here's a shiny new toy for you to use all your broken specials with - now keep quiet until your revamp next March.
As an aside, what's the bet, if we do get a new pistol, that it's the same idea as the DE-10 - you have have to get it from a high end dungeon.....
You couldn't make this stuff up.
The loot is a hair trigger, required for the grip, a high-output powerhandler for the blaster chamber assembly, and then a bolt emitter for the finished weapon schematic.
Each item dropps off one NPC, who only spawns once a day, and only has one item on him at a time, if any.
Then the devs decide a month later the Master Smuggler weapon is too powerfull, and nerf it down to just above a CDEF in power, yet still requiring Master Smuggler to use...

I was just browsing the Pistoleer forum when I came upon this thread:

Apparently there are some new Pistols and Carbines on TC along with some Wookiee swords. Apparently one of the pistols is for Master Smuggler and one for Master Bounty Hunter.
Caylin, have you heard any word about this? It would be pretty neat if this is really going to happen
I've seen the pictures for the new weapoons, but I also play three characters on Test Center and I haven't seen any certs for any new weapons and the Weaponsmiths have no new schematic certs either.
I'm thinking that these are either NPC weapons, or weapons they haven't implemented yet, put the graphics files were included in the Patch 10 update.
However, no matter if or when they put these new weapons in the game, I highly doubt that Smugglers will get any new certs. First of all the Devs don't really see Smugglers as a combat class even though it requires millions of pistol experiance. Second of all the Devs don't ever show any love to Smugglers, so why would they even think about giving us something new. Finally, if for some reason they do give a new pistol cert to Smugglers, I would have preferred that they would of fixed some of the real problems with the profession rather than adding new fluff.

I disagree with this, specifically for one reason: /setCurrentSkillTitle combat_smuggler_master
While I agree that we smugglers dont get any love, I personally think a weapon cert is exactly the type of bright shiny thing they would try and distract us from our eternaly put off revamp.

As a Master Smuggler for many months now, my jaded eye passes right over posts with Red-named authors. Ive learned not to invest as much time and effort into those posts and their topics- more often than not, theydo notplay out.
I suppose to support my argument that we are, at least for the time being, a combat-oriented profession, I would site my own current experiences. I dont slice anything for anyone but old customers and myself nowadays. I make spice as a side project, more as support/supply for my alt Master Merchant's business, and my FP sales are more of a nuisance thana profitable venturethese days because of the heavy Jedi presence- going overt has become quite bothersome.
While I still do all those things to some degree, the Smuggler skills I rely on regularly are FD and the pistol specials. Even my slicing and spice are used primarily to augment my combat capabilities rather than for profit, slicing multiple pieces until I can retain the "perfect" slice for myself.
I don't disagree with you in the spirit of our profession... only in its current execution. Adding to all thisthe fact thatwe will remain this way for many more months, and that having our own pistol has been on and off our wish lists for as long as I have been a smuggler, I still put my creds on a cert.
I completly agree with everything you say here. I was not saying that I believe that we are not a combat profession, just that some of the Dev's in their infinate wisdom think that we are not. That's the whole problem.
I also tend to use more of the combat skills from the smuggler profession than any other. The last time that I sold any spice was before the Chef revamp and the only time I've used anything from the Underworld line is the one time I sold faction. I only slice equipment for a small group now and for my own equipment.
The whole point of both of my posts, which obviously didn't come across correctly, is that I'm all in favor of any positive changes that they decide to make for smugglers, wether it be a new pistol cert or not. However, I've been so jaded from broken promises that I will only beleiveit when I see it. Hopefully they can prove me wrong.
Nah, thats probably just me. I'm not running on much sleep these days and this wouldn'tbe the first time I've found myself standing on the same side of the fence with someonewith whom I hadbelieved I was in dissagreement.
